Living in an increasingly popular neighborhood meant watching empty lots improve and losing some privacy. But enjoying the increased home value as the subdivision grew.
The house next door went up quickly for this area and 9 months later a couple near my late 30's age moved in. Thankfully, in my opinion, it appeared with no children. I hadn't met them yet...more of let it happen when it does.
And the homeowners association always published a list of new arrivals and the contact information for those that didn't mind it being available. Not that I ever attended those welcoming get togethers. Just not my style.
A few weeks later after they moved in, and surfing the net as I often do on a quiet Saturday evening and being single, I get an e-mail from a new contact.
***"Just thought I would drop a line. We moved in our first house together and thought I'd say hello. Guess we are your newest neighbors. Your yard looks beautiful and I'd appreciate any help or advice as we start the adventure of 'scaping this property. Just knock on the door or lean over the fence when I'm out there."***
It came from meganshidden_desires.xxxxx.com
I looked in the directory but that wasn't listed for that address....but many folks have multiple addresses on the web.
Maybe I need to be more sociable instead of in the background. And how do I respond?
After an hour of so considering it, I responded...
***"I apologize for not meeting my new neighbors yet. And like your boldness to step out and initiate contact. I assume you are Megan..?? Would love to discuss and help with your landscaping questions. Tomorrow I am off even for a normal week day...would you care to drop by for coffee about 9 AM and formally meet?"***
I hit send and then showered. Our houses were almost reverse floor plans, so our master bedrooms faced one another. It was still strange getting used to lights in that lot.
And it was lit up and a naked lady crossing out of the bath and into the bedroom, wet hair towel wrapped, as she made the way to a dressing table.
I retreated as if I was invading her privacy, but it wasn't my windows without curtains.
I hit my PC for some game playing to pass the night. And an email message popped in....
