The Narcissist in Chief

Not really. I suppose as a hater you could twist it to mean that. He's still being a narcissist by stating he'd put his record up against any president but still. (What did Lincoln do economically or on foreign policy that was at all impressive?)

Foreign policy?

Lincoln kept England and France from coming to the aid of a foreign power (the Confederacy) giving him adequate time to win his war of conquest and reunify the nation.

Monetary policy?

Lincoln funded the transcontinental railroad and ended slavery. Two of the three largest labour changing events of the 19th century.

"...in modern times." The part of the interview nobody seems to have heard.

When your record speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

When your record is an abyssmal failure, attempt to spin it to make others believe it is not.

So, if he means only modern times . . . how far do we go? 4th best since Reagan? that covers 30 years. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama?

Or perhaps 4th best since Kennedy? Going back 50 years?
Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama?

What is modern?

The 13th Amendment ended slavery. In 1857 the Supremes (Dred Scott) ruled that blacks had no rights or citizenship; the war left Dred Scott in force. If we repealed the 14th Amendment blacks would immediately lose their citizenship as Dred Scott would once more control their status.

But even the 13th Amendment failed to end slavery. Tween 1865 and 1925 most Southern states had conscript labor laws that made it legal to arrest and lease people for labor without trial. Vagrancy was usually enough to land a man on a chain gang for several years, plenty of orphans were arrested as vagrants and leased by the states.

Trains aren't monetary policy, nor is slavery strictly speaking.

What did Lincoln do, specifically about England and France?

:) Good points.

Why can't the democrats put forward a guy like JFK who believed in "getting the country back on the right track" with the vision of making us a great country again, one prominent on the world stage and one that pushes for economic growth and vibrancy through marginal rate reductions in our tax codes.

Instead, in a world of malaise and aimless direction, we get a guy who obsesses on income redistribution, punishing the rich and who ignores the economy, our growing debt and spends our "foriegn" capital on a world apology tour making us a world-wide laughing stock.

If the democrats put a guy up like JFK, I'd vote democratic, but they don't. They have the Obama with a track record of indulgence to his cronies, obsequence to the unions and complete ignorance of economic matters.

Any of the Republican candidates will be a great and refreshing change in comparison with this guy.

How did the democrats wander so far from the promise of JFK? I think Reagan was right, he didn't leave the democrats, the democrats left him.

What an eloquent and well-thought out response. Thank you for your deep understanding of the issues and clarity of thought on our approach out of it.
As eloquent and well-thought-out as your original post.

marginal tax rates are at near historical lows, yet you want the opposition party to lower tax rate reductions further?

Why not add "why can't the democrats all commit suicide so that that republicans can run unopposed and spare us these costly election thingees?"

The tax cuts the dems put into place are temporary or are gimmics (cash for clunkers...give me a break) and do nothing to stir investment and growth.

The democrats are making committments on our future through unbridled spending which is like having a giant and growing credit card bill that you know that you can't pay, that we can't even meet the "minimum" payment requirement. It's killing our economy and destroying our future.....and for what....Solyndra and payoffs to prominent campaign donators?

So you're in favour of giving NASA an unlimited budget and starting an unwinnable war in SE Asia?
