THE MONTH AFTER CHRISTMAS

'Twas the month after Christmas
And all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber)
I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt
I said to myself as I only can,
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruitcake, every cracker and chip
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie - not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

Lmao, Iz!

Sad thing is, I now work for a company that uses choclate for an incentive. (doesn't that just break your heart? ;) )

It is???

Chocolate is an incentive???

HMMMMMM...

Great story Izzy! I am so glad the holidays are over.

I really enjoyed the poem.

Question, if it is your poem, did you make the rum balls you mention?

Cute poem! I am thankful I didn't do the usual holiday "blossoming" this year.

EarthMuffin, i did more than munch, I gorged myself. I spent two glorious weeks in nice sunny New Mexico. My only problem?? I came home to find out I had lost 10 pounds. And I wasn't even trying. How???? Because contrary to what most people think, New Mexico is not warm all year round like Arizona is and my hometown<and hubby's as well> is 8500 feet up on a mountain top mesa.So I guess it was my bodies way of working the excess weight so that I could get plenty of oxygen.

We made a mistake and spent christmas in the states this year, only to be snowed in for a week. After three days, we agreed, Mexico next year. Feliz Navidad.

You're right Isabella Christmas has gone
The foods all been eaten, it left with the song
But my fair maiden, I'll cry out advice
You are quite lovely, gentle and nice.

The weight you have gained will all soon be gone
So take heart Isabella and give us a song
This might seem lame, coming from me
But it comes from the heart, I hope you will see.

From Your Knight

Carl my dear ... nothing that comes from you could ever ever be lame ... and yes, darling, of course i see that it comes from the heart .... <blushing> .... thank you from the bottom of my heart too ... Muah!

Nice to see that you did so well, Earthmuffin ... way to go hon!

Well Tony ... i am afraid i did not write that poem ... i found it in my inbox ... i thought it was funny ... i am afraid that i am not much of a cook or a baker or good at any domestically challenged job really ... lol ...

LOL Isabella, I have no clue. When I got home, I was expecting to have gained 10 pounds not dropped, so I thought for sure that my scale was wrong. I guess not, cause I wasn't the only who lost weight, the hubby did too. <g> Of course I think he lost weight cause his mom cooked for him everyday we were there. <and of course, Koreans are notorious for their very healthy food, rice and veggies, very little meat>
