The Meeting That Never Happened (We Need New Associates! PM to Join!)
OCC: Looking for a lady to play the role of Carmen. Other members of the corporation may join in later.
Over the years that I have been the owner and CEO of Corporate Consulting International, my Director of International Operations, Carmen Caldwell, has been special. Her charm, beauty, and oh yeah, her competence have brought her and the company great success and prestige.
This meeting in Dallas was brought about when it was decided that a tariff issue needed to be addressed concerning one of our Asian clients. The client, a semiconductor distributor, became concerned about open markets in the west, and Carmen and I quickly put together a gathering between the client, ourselves, and a delegation of US Trade officials. But in a dizzying series of events, the client’s flight from Tokyo had to turn around with mechanical failure, the government people called to inform us that all trade restrictions on our client’s products had been lifted, which then made the client’s trip to Dallas unnecessary, a fact we relayed to them when they returned to Tokyo.
So there we were, Carmen and I, sitting in the hotel suite, food and drink for 20 people at the ready. Caviar, the finest cheeses, Champaign, Prime Rib…..and just me and Carmen. We looked at each other and smiled. We enjoyed the mutually satisfying thought of a problem solved so easily, but looked at the banquet laid before us. I laughed, mostly to myself. “What are we going to do with all of THIS?” I asked Carmen, as I fell back into the couch. She surprised me somewhat when she chose to join me on the couch, taking a relaxed posture, and kicked off her shoes. I took the opportunity to glance admiringly at her long slender legs. She let out a breath of satisfaction, looking at me, not answering my question, but not eliminating any possibilities either.
