I know, I know.
I can hear you all already, pulling your hair and gnashing your teeth and just generally wailing as you say, "The Me Thread? The Me Thread?! How could anyone be so brash and bold? How could anyone be so self-centered? The Me Thread? Bah..."

*shrugs* I blame it on society.

Course I blame a lot of things on society.

Like those little broken chips that make up the bottom 40% of a bag of chips? Society's fault. *nods*

I also babble a lot, but I'm not sure if society's to blame for that or not. I'm keeping my options open there.

ANYways, let's get to the point of this, hmm?

*ahem*

I'd like to meet people. Well.. that may be a bit general. I'd like to meet female people. Of course I'd be meaning female people of the persuasion that are interested in men (although I have heard on Public Radio that this may in fact be a widespread genetic flaw, cause c'mon, we can't even figure out that a toilet seat has two positions). Also female people who were born that way (it may be tacky, but it's a tacky world we live in). I'll go ahead and draw the line there. If I start getting too specific I'll be here all day.

Well.. I'll prolly be here all day anyways, but that's entirely beside the point.

As you can tell, I have a rather unique posting method. My posts are long and rambling, however, I promise to respond to any and all well-thought out posts.

I suppose you'd like to hear a bit about me. I know I for one love talking about myself. Yeah, I know it's a shock, but it's true. *ponders* Lessee. I work as federal contractor for the US Marines (Go Navy! :p), I live on an island so I actually DO enjoy quiet walks on the beach, cycling, macrame, and contract bridge. Err.. okay.. just nix everything after cycling. I do enjoy reading when I have the time, and sport a rather enjoyable comic book collection. I feel it is the most legitimate American literary breakthrough of the 20th century, and I'm positive that once people collectively pull their heads' out of their asses' (excuse the apostrophes, but better safe than sorry), that everyone will realize that they stopped being 'just for kids' sometime during the early '60s.

I'm 26, half-Italian, single, and I've never met a cocker spaniel I didn't like. As I said, I'm just looking for a bevy of beautiful women to chat and flirt and generally just have a good time with. I of course welcome other men to post, as long as you're not hitting on me. Yeah, I know it's hard *heh*

Hmm.. while we're laying down ground rules, here's some more:

1) Keep an open mind, and feel free to say whatever you like as long as it's not malicious towards another poster.

2) Tell all your friends about this thread.

3) When you post, post nekkid. *hopes*

4) Keep your chocolate out of my peanut butter *peers*

Okay, I suppose if keep typing this thing'll never get posted. So here I go. Right.... now.

Bumping Myself

As you can see, I'm not too proud to bump myself.

Think of it as aggressive marketing. *grins*

So.. 25 views and no replies. *hmmm*

I suppose I could offer you all free cookies if you come and chat for a bit.

*ponders*

Scratch that. I tried that kinda thing before, and the computer repair guy gave me such a dirty look when I tried to explain to him why he had to clean fruit pies out of my zip drive *frowns*

I remain confident that somewhere out there, there are people who genuinely appreciate my wit and manner and zeal for all things uncanny.

Oh.. saw this name today and had to share it. I mean.. it's necessarily a funny name, and if it also happens to be your name, I mean no disrepesect, but I gotta share it anyway.

Prettyman.

*err*

Well.. I suppose that's not funny in and of itself, but take into account that it belonged to a Marine Recruit and I'm sure you can run all kindsa little funny scenarios in your head involving a barracks, three DIs, and a summer of misery for some poor guy named Prettyman. Just thought I'd share. *grins*

I'll keep posting till I gather a loyal throng of followers, so feel free to jump in whenever *hint hint*

Well Mr Midnighter, did you forget your fans from another site? :D

Were your ears burning last week? I was having a conversation about you with a friend we have in common. We thought maybe you had fallen off the face of the the earth.

I'm glad to see you are alive and well, maybe I will catch you on icq sometime.

Falling From the Face of the Earth

Shy! *waits for your twin to make an appearance here*

Actually I did fall off the face of the Earth. Y'know, it's not as long as a fall as you'd think? *sage nods*

I landed somewhere new though, namely a larger house about 7 miles north, and on a different island. It's working out rather well, although most everything I own has been sitting in boxes for two weeks, because the new job won't let up! *grins*

Ahhh.. kallima. It must be my lucky day to have garnered a compliment from one of the more popular Darlings of Lit *grins* I've perused some of your threads on the Picture board, but due to my lenghty posting style, I don't post as often as I'd like *smirks* Not that you didn't deserve a lengthy post amongst other 'lengthy' things *winks*

Feel free to drop in anytime *grins*

I don't think any were mine, unless when you first post that counts as the first view. *thinks some more*

I usually just refresh at the board. Would that add to my views though? I mean I wasn't opening my thread, just refreshing the board. I suppose what I mean to say is that I am posting a personal thread, but I'm not quite so desperate as to boost my thread's views. I'm much more interested in quantity than quality.

Take my posts for example. If you broke posts down by the number of words per, I believe that my stock would dramatically increase. If I were interested in that kinda thing. Which I'm not *grins*

Glad to see that I at least drew in a new viewer. Thanks for all the time you put in Moderating for Lit, Puppi, and I look forward to seeing you post in the future *smiles*

When you start a new thread, view one is yours. Also, every time you respond back to your thread, you're adding a new view to the total.

*comes in, looks around...*

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...nice thread ya got here Midnighter!;)

If ya don't mind, I'll be poppin' in and out....:p

Saturday Morning Cartoons

Is it just me, or have television networks totally given up on the Saturday morning cartoon. Gone are the early mornings of Rocky and Bullwinkle, G.I. Joe and the Transformers, peppered with ample doses fo Schoolhouse Rock, Scooter Computer and Mr. Chip, and breakfast cereal commercials each promising the sweetest marshmallow treats.

Instead I'm treated to Doug, Recess, and a host of other animated and live-action shows all revolving around *and here's the point of all this* kids going to school.

So let's get this straight. In school, kids are encouraged to broaden their horizons by reading Vernes, Wells, Tolkein, Conrad, Stevenson, and a host of other imaginative authors, each of which would take us to fantastic places full of surprising things, and, at the same time, when out of school, kids are forced to watch shows about kids going to school.

If I were Satan, I would be damned proud of that special little hell. I can only hope that he's truly prepared a place like this for all those soulless bastards at ABC.

*regains my composure*

Okay.. just had to rant on that. Oddly enough I find myself glued to PBS on Saturday as I weedle through my stack of bills and make a list of all the yardwork that I'm likely to put off until next week, ad infinitum. I love watching the home improvement and building shows (skills which I sadly do not nor ever will have), the gardening shows (skills which, though I admire, I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole), and the cooking shows, especially. If I had to do it all over again, I think I would have become a cook. Or at least I would have tried more foods growing up.

Thanks for the clarification Puppi. I can then add with startling accuracy precisely the number of views which belonged to me. Including my original post, and each preceding post (5, including this one) I have viewed this thread 5 times.

Good point, kallima. You seemed to have an avid following on your tribute thread, however, and I wouldn't dream of competing for your attentions with such a dedicated assemblage of beaus. I may post eventually, though *grins* I'll just have to wait until I can find the right thing to say. Despite my rambling nature, I tend not to loose my tongue unless there is a useful reason

;)

Welcome Suzi. I'd be glad to have you popping in and out as much as you'd like. Please allow me to return the favor some time *grins*

Well, that's all for now. I hope you all have fabulous weekends, filled with plenty of rest, relaxation, and bed-shattering sex :D

In & Out

Popping in and out...

Sounds like a line from a James Bond movie doesn't it? Gotta love those thinly veiled sexual innuendos ;)

Fat Albert. Now there's a blast from the past. I think the only episode I clearly remember was the one where Rudy kept listening to his transistor radio with a pair of headphones, and he kept turning up the volume, and went partially deaf. I was like 7 and it scared me shitless. I saw all these people walking around with headphones and thinking: "My God.. don't they know? Haven't they heard about Rudy?!?"

Of course I also thought that" "Don't Drink And Drive" literally meant not to drink any beverages while driving. It made sense to me. You have to lean your head back to drink, and therefore you can't possibly be looking at the road when you drink. My dad was an avid coffee drinker, and for several years I thought he was some kind of petty criminal for drinking coffee in the car.

*ponders*

Hmm.. well I think I've clearly established just how naive a child I was. I think I'll quit while I'm ahead :D

Please....tell me more....about you! :)

More About Me

Well.. it is 'The Me Thread' after all.

*thinks*

That's always a tough question to answer, y'know?

I mean.. where does anyone start when asked to tell others about themselves? I like to think that the answer lies in the details.

I do enjoy talking, although I'm a much better listener.
I hate waking up early, but I love sunrises.
I believe that you get what you pay for, and when I go grocery shopping I make sure everything I buy is a 2-for-1 deal.
I never talk during movies, and I always tip more than I should.
I feel out of touch with a generation that seems bent on redefining the word 'redefine', but I never lose hope that someday all this too will pass.
I am not a nymphomaniac, and can actually live a normal life without thinking about sex every 5.2 seconds or whatever nonsense some jacked-up university reports.
I like pictures of flowers, but not the real things.
I think that the Israelis and Palestinians need to grow up.
I wonder what kind of bad pot the Nielsen families are smoking, cause 'Reality TV' makes me sick.
I had the biggest crush on Tinkerbell and Darla from the 'Little Rascals'
I tend to drive slightly under the speed limit, and I always arrive early.
I don't like the Beatles or Elvis.
I liked the first Darrin on 'Bewtiched', but not the second.
I wear jeans all year round.
I think proffesional sportsman are overpaid, but as long as they keep doing their thing, I'll keep watching them.
I love to work.
I don't think men are from Mars or women from Venus.
I believe as long as there are two people who don't agree with one another, there will be a third party willing to profit from this.
I believe most people are inherently good.

Maybe that'll help some *grins* If you want to know anything specific, feel free to ask. The worst I can do si say 'no", but I promise you all that it's not very likely I'll say that.

:D

Monday Thoughts

I think it's one of Murphy's law that everything you hope to accomplish over the weekend is inversely proportional to what you actually will get done, cause I swear my house is in worse shape than when I started on Friday.

I heard on the radio that a district court in Oregon reinforced a law that allowed prescription barbituates to be sold to patients in overdose quantities, in order to aid those terminally ill patients who wish to commit suicide. Now -there's- a good use of Oregon tax dollars. I can think of like 2 dozen painless ways to off myself for under $12.00 just off the top of my head, but I suppose since I don't own a pharmaceutical company that contributes campaign funds to congressional and judicial nominees that my views are less relevant.

Speaking about suicide, why is everyone so concerned about making it painless? I mean is painful suicide supposed to be less humane than non-painful suicide? How is death humane? Once your dead, you are no longer 'human'. Your'e like rotting organic matter. Death has nothing to do with being 'humane'.. it just happens sometimes. Are people worried that they'll be sore in the morning after shooting themsleves in the head? I'm sure a psychologist could probably explain to me the thought processes that go into this personal choice, but I'm not sure if I'd ever understand them. I figure if you're gonna do something, do it right. Live like a king and die like a man, and stuff. I'm not capable of suicide, but if I were I'd like to do something exciting.

Course I'd prolly end up just running around with scissors till I got the job done *nods*

On a lighter note I had a great Monday. Work was a breeze, the weather is finally showing signs of cooling off, and I swear to God that I actually wore two matching socks today. I figure with the 73-some odd pair of socks I have, the odds of me wearing two matching socks happens only 3 times a year.

Haven't seen many good movies lately. Finally saw the Count of Monte Cristo (did that take forever to come out on video or what?). I like Guy Pearce. He's moving up fast on my list of actors I enjoy. I saw him in the Time Machine earlier, which I had intially gone to seen just for Jeremy Irons' role (another of my favorite actors). I read a story on Yahoo a coupla weeks ago where Jeremy Irons' was delayed on a flight to his Irish castle, and was layed over somewhere in England at some ungodly hour. He was sitting in the pub there, and noticed the place was a mess, so he went behind the bar, grabbed an apron and bus equipment and started cleaning the place up. Hot damn, but that's classy.

Read a few good books lately. Neil Gaiman's 'American Gods' was a great read. You may be familiar with his critically acclaimed run on the Vertigo published 'graphic novel' (PC term for comic books not targetted towards children) 'Sandman', as well as a book he co-wrote with British Satrist Terry Pratchett (of Discworld fame) entitles 'Good Omens', which was good for a laugh if you're in need of one. Neil is hands down a natural born story-teller, and the list of his peers who admire and extoll his authoring virtues is impressive. Give him a try next time you drop by your public library.

Musicwise, I'm not thrilled by much of anything. The last thing I really enjoyed was the Cake single that was released with 'Shallow Hal'. I heard the single realeased by the winner of American Idol. *gags* I'm all for people realizing their dreams, but if she's professional singing material then I'm a habiyually short poster. It was like something off of a late 80's Disney movie. Too breathy, too many of those pointless 'Oooos' and lyrics that would have fit snugly into any pop-stars repetoire. I won't close the door on her yet though. Maybe she's saving her better stuff for later. I hope so for her sakes anyways *grins*

Well.. If I don't end this post now, I spose it'll never be done. Feel free to yack back at me anytime.

Pffft

*mock surprise*

Are.. are you saying.. that I -talk- too much? *swoons*

I am soooo hurt right now.. I can't even begin to tell you. *sniffles*

*sighs*

*shrugs*

Okay.. I'm over it *grins*

Nice to know I have an audience. Now if I could only figure a way out to tie you up I'd have a captive audience...

*ponders*

*plots*

You do have a somewhat captive audience...

I seem to be tied to this thread. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I find you refreshingly forthcoming, and I really enjoy your observations on everyday life.

I, too, have been described as being a bit 'wordy' but I don't mind. If I have a lot to say, I will find someone to listen...or read.

South Carolina, huh? Haven't been to SC since 1994, when I tromped off to Myrtle Beach for a week with a HOTTTT fireman I met two days before we left. Of course, that was in my younger, naughtier days...damn, but he was hot. I will refrain from making passe remarks about his hose or about how he put out my fire...then again, I guess I just did make reference to that, didn't I? Sorry.

It was totally vain and selfish of you to start a "Me" thread...I like that in a man. :catroar:

Rather flowing ramblings...

The title got me, and the focused stream of thought kept me reading to the end... but damn that is long.

I agree, I disagree, I'd add more I's but it's a "Me" thread, so I'll refrain.

Hope you find what you're looking for - I've not been so bold.

A man that like to talk & listen.. and in a uniform to boot. very nice might i say
i miss the older type of cartoons.. but i have to admit i still watch the new ones as theres nothing better on tv, every show seems to be just like the one on the channel before.. gimme a good cheesy movie and im happy for 90 minutes lol

so can we get you to post some pictures? why do you prefer pictures of flowers that arent real? and what type of flower? sorry this kinda struck me as not so normal, but from all that you have wrote, you are very much so different than most guys, until i get to know u better and change my mind lol

so what comics do you prefer to read? im not much really into them only for the reason cuz no one around me has ever been into them.. so i dont know what i would like.. wait i take that back, i did have a few copies of spawn when it first came out and had the first serises of action figures.. but had to seel them all cuz i was broke, i get to see them once a month cuz i sold them to the guy who owns my fav alternitive record store...

wow this is the first time i think i have wrote this much in months.. guess i just needed the right inspiration huh ? hehe

itsice to meet u midnighter

The Me thread

I like what I've seen this morning, you have a good view on life.

I agree with you about Gaiman and his collaborations with Terry Pratchett, and I really love the view that prachett has about the world we live in, I have read all his books and own 75%plus have to get the earlier books like Colour of magic, (yes I'm from the eastern side of the pond so we use 'u's in some of our words.

Sounds like you have an interesting life, my tastes in music are slightly different to yours although I like both Elvis and the Beatles I don't own a single record of theirs.

I work as a contract manager for a Uk based company in Ireland looking after a multinational Oil companies maintenance here.

Married two boys Ben 3 1/2 Sam 1 1/2, when they're that young the half makes a big difference. They are lots of fun, very interactive.

I live on an Island too although its slighly longer to walk all the way round although I have sailed it.

It's fun sometimes to ramble sort of gets a lot of things out into the open

Thanks for the thread, wont post again like this if you don't want me to use up your thread, let me know.

Responses to Responses

I'll do my George Stephanopolous impression and handle these by last response to first.

Well, first I'll talk about George. While I have nothing good to say about former President Clinton, I have to admit I like George. It may have been necessary to remove him as Press Secretary in order to further divorce himself from his early scandals, but it was a total shame. While it's plain to see that George is a more moderate democrat, he has always had an open mind and a keen insight into what both political parties are doing right and wrong, and the respect that he shows to the process shines through. I think ABC did the right thing in turning over their Sunday Morning 'roundtable' show to George. With George Will added into the mix, it's been one of my favorite Sunday morning shows for years.

Okay... now for my Press Sec impression *grins*

lienm> As I am not responsible for hosting Literotica, and as I am not responsible for bandwith, servers and content here, PLEASE feel free to post on this thread all you like *grins* Post about whatever you're moved to post about.

Working in oil, hmm? I bet that's a hectic fast-paced job *grins* I believe I saw a piece on a newsshow about Ireland perhaps a yaer ago... I believe they said that Irleland now outproduces 'Silicon Valley' in computer hardware. I may be a bit mistaken, or twisting what I heard, but I remember it leaving a distinct impression on me. As I'm sure you're aware, most Americans still can't get pictures of Leprechauns, dirty limmericks, and grossly huge St. Patrick's Day parades involving green food dye being poured into rivers and lakes, out of their heads when they think of Ireland. I've never been, but if I were to jaunt on over to your side of the pond, I'd make it a point to do some sightseeing there.

And yes *grins* I read the Colour of Magic first, and I often like to put 'u's into words. Like 'honour' for example. It's just classier, in my opinion. *heh* Of course I also heard Tony Blair say 'Aluminium' in his address to the House of Commons today concerning Iraq's weapons capabilities. Sometimes too much of a good thing can be bad *lol*

*looks at the time* Alright. I have to jet for a bit, but I WILL be back to address the other responses I've since gotten. Thank you for all dropping in and sharing a bit of your lives with me. It's really something to look forward to at the end of a long hard day *grins*

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

gotta love a man who knows how to work a crowd...and I liked all your answers earlier Midnighter...:)

Hmm.. Ireland

The closest I've come is the big isle itself - Britain - and I loved it there (despite the weather ;)

Technology in Ireland - I believe at some point Intel had a couple of plants there putting out Pentium chips, not sure if that is still the case. Actually, it surprised me at the time because I thought everything was being farmed out to Malaysia, the new stuff was coming from Taiwan, and the gizmos where being piled in Japan... and I couldn't understand how Ireland entered into all that.
Thinking Ireland - Angela's Ashes comes to mind. Good read.

Eek, look at the time. Adios.

Playing Catch Up

Okay, I'll get right into my responses.

Devil_D0ll> I'm not in a uniform anymore *grins* My Crackerjacks are a happy moth nest in the top shelf of my closet. I do work with uniforms however, but Marines this time. They've changed to 'digital' cammies. However, some dumbass made the name-tapes camaflouge too, so the black thread is obscured by the black in the name tape. Basically they look like an old video game picture, clusters of little pixels.

I could conceivably post some pictures *grins* Have to find and unpack the digital camera first, which is not as easy as it sounds. *glares at the mountain of unpacked boxes*

I do like some flowers in person. Orchids, for example, are actually a blast to look at. They're all so unique and exotic and so unlike anything else. Otherwise if I have to look at a flower, I'd rather it be in the pages of National Geographic than in front of my face.

*heh* I won't say too much about comics right now, cause once I get started it's hard to stop. I did the Spawn thing for a while. First issue came out in May 91, and that's about when I started my current collection. No doubt Todd McFarlane is a talented penciler, but he hasn't pencilled the book since the teens, and his writing leaves something to be desired. But hey.. he owns like a dozen of Madonna's bustiers, he's part owner of an NHL team, and he bought both of McGuire's recordbreaking homerun balls. He obviously knows how to market. I'm into just about everything though. People generally kid me about it, but I stopped letting it bother me years ago. People have no problems going to to see 'From Hell', but when you say, "Hey.. Alan Moore wrote that. It was a comic book from the early 80s." they just kinda hush up.

Glad to hear from you Doll, and I look forward to hearing form ya again soon ;)

phatcat> Some people can say volumes in just a few words. I envy them *grins* Thanks for the compliment, and thanks for NOT agreeing with everything I say. I pretty much have little like for people who either totally agree with me or totally disagree with me. Anything in the middle is a blessing. Unlike most people, I'll actually change my view on things in the middle of an argument, if the other side is persuasive and intelligible enough.

And thanks for the input on Ireland. You know I remember hearing about Angela's Ashes on the radio and morning shows, etc. when it came out, but I've never gotten around to checking it out. Just one of MANY things that there's never enough time in one's life to do. Thanks for dropping in and I hope to hear more from you in the future :)

BoobsNBrains> Now there's a nickname I can appreciate *lol* Midnighter, by the way, is a comic book character, from Warren Ellis' 'The Authority'. The first 24 or so issues are a WICKED read, and I highly recommend picking up the trade paperbacks. Or you can just ask me for plot summaries, which are equally as stimulating *heh*

Myrtle Beach? *pfffft* Been there, done that. It's just a bunch of t-shirt shops and a gaggle of putt-putt courses. I'm on the other end; Beaufort. We've got Hilton Head (one of the top 3 beaches in the US), and lots and lots of old people. I am not old, but I get along well with my elders.

A fireman hmm? *chuckles* I think if we really sat down and focussed we could prolly walk away with at least three doxen good sexual innuendos for Fireman. So you did this in your naughtier days? Does that suggest that you are somehow less naughty now? *grins*

Feel free to be wordy as much as you like on my thread. While it is a 'Me' Thread, it wouldn't be much fun if I was just sitting here chatting with myself. *drifts off for a bit as he considers self-cybersex* Nah.. it'd never work.

kallima> Ack! You've uncovered my fiendish plot, already! I started this thread merely to force you waste ten minutes of your day reading. It's a power trip kind of thing, knowing that I have the ability to steal ten minutes of people's time. I think it's the same rush door-to-door salesmen or telemarketers get. *heh*

Suzi> Work a crowd? You're makin' me sound like a stripper. not that that's a bad thing. I think that if worst came to worst I would be willing to sell my body for money. *winks*

You liked my answers, eh? They all came off the top of my head *nods* Phatcat already mentioned the term 'stream of thought' and I suppose that in a slightly more controlled way, that's what I do. You may catch a few spelling/grammar errors here and there, mainly because I don't go back to edit what I say. If I did edit, my posts would be much more polished, and when I DO make a polished post most anyone who knows me can see a huge difference. Some people will tell you that great things just happen, but in my own personal experience, you have to wrok hard if you want something to work in your favor.

Obviously, I'm doing something right, because I already have a gaggle of interesting people to listen to me. *cackles*

I'm gonna close this one out, go eat, do some shopping, and post some Wednesday Thoughts when I get back. Everyone give yourself a big hug for me. *hugs*

:)

Wednesday's Thoughts

I was listening to an interview with Dolly Parton on NPR this morning as I drove to work. It's refreshing to know that not all celebrity personalities are of the habit of keeping their heads up their asses for warmth. She's funny, honest, and knows who she is. I think that places her in about .001% of the world's population. Adding in the fact that she has huge boobies is just like icing on the cake :D

I also heard her cover of Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven'. I shit you not. It was actually incredible, not too put too fine a point on it. She's had 73 albums in her career. Quite an accomplishment I think. Next time I have a few bucks to spare, and I'm in the local record shop, I think I'll give her a try.

*ponders*

Heard a delightful story today from my Dad, by the way. I advise you not to drink milk, soda or alcohol while reading this, beacuase I won't be held responsible for any nasal-related sprains or injuries.

*ahem* My Dad, on the joys of growing old: The funniest thing happened today, son. I was in the head on break, wiping my ass, and I got a cramp; a cramp while I was wiping my ass. No, it' wasn't my ass that was cramped, but my lower back. I've been feeling it years, kinda. My back tensing while I wiped my ass, and today it just cramped up. Whadda ya think of that?

Well.. I told my Dad exactly what I thought of it. After I stopped to wipe away the tears of laughter that is.

Note to self: Don't grow old, and if I do, buy a bidet.

Hmm.. It's kinda late, and I'm a bit groggy. Can't remember any other significant ponderings I had today, but I'll hang around for a bit in case something pops out. *grins*

Suzi> What is it with women.. you give them the world and STILL they want more *grins*

*hugs*, 's, and :p 's
