The 'Man in Uniform' Syndrome

I guess this is kind of a poll type thing, but not really...

so anyway, i'm 21 and in the US Air Force (love me or hate me i hear it all the time no matter where i go) and i've noticed that age old saying of 'women love a man in uniform' actually is true in a lot of cases... of course it's more true for our 'blues' a.k.a. dress uniform, which i never wear because i'm in maintenance, and i actually hate... we're always in our cammo.

but i digress...

so anyway, does this apply to any of you? i don't know if it's been brought up before, and i'm lazy so i don't feel like looking it up

Guys in uniform.

I will admit to liking a guy in uniform because it means he has some sort of discipline hopefully. It takes a lot of discipline to make it in one of the military branches. A friend of mine wanted to be a Marine after high school but he flunked out because he was an idiot and didn't follow orders the way you are supposed to.

Any guy I want to be with has to be pretty honest and disciplined because although I am honest I am not so disciplined and I think it would make a good balance.

Yeah, i believe that has a lot to do with it... plus it's a symbol that the guy has a secure job for a while (well, hopefully, unless he gets stupid...)

I am not saying that you have to be wearing a uniform to be disciplined but I think it is an outward sign that is obvious to the opposite sex. There is also the whole authority figure thing that guys in uniform have going for them. Girls are taught that these men are to be trusted and to go to them with any poblems we may have from when we are very young. Is it any wonder we are attracted to them when we get older?

I agree with you GerberaDaisy. I know that is one of the many things that I was taught. I think that whole discipline thing also applies for many of us.

Tim, the whole thing with job security is not as important as many people think. It is something that is a part of the whole package but to judge someone on that basis alone, I don't think that it is important as some other things. But it does show stability and it also shows that this is someone that can make a commit.

oh don't get me wrong, i'm not saying the job thing is all of it, i'm saying it's a good factor to add in though.

I agree, but not in the sense of the job by itself. It shows a certain level of maturity and committment. Those are the two things that most women are looking for, in my personal opinion.

Hummmm love those men in uniforms....they are just too neat and tidy....I like to unwrap them and see just what is under that stiff exterior......they do so like to let loose.

I remember a cop I was having an affair wth once told me, it is fine to love a man in uniform, but much better to love him when his uniform if off. ahhh memories.
Men in uniform still turn my head.

I think any man that is well turned out attracts a woman's eye because it means he has respect for himself as well as those around him. A uniform is more obvious but even a jacket and tie make a lot of difference on a man if he carries himself well and looks you in the eye. The maam thing is okay but I prefer the whole opening doors thing and the control part as well. I like being well-treated by a man and respected. I am not saying a uniform guarantees this by any means but it seems to put me more at ease with someone faster. If he has enough control to live a structured life like that required by the military then he might have enough discipline to handle a contrary confusing bit of fluff like me. Definitely into commitment.
