Long-Winded Writer Introduction, Feel Free To Ignore

Hi, I'm new here. I'm new to joining a site dedicated to erotic writing, I'm new to role playing on a forum. However, I have been doing general purpose online role playing for close to a decade over Yahoo! chat (and other chat setups from that user base) and have been using the character I will be using here for a large portion of that time. He has a very detailed backstory that this RP has created, which interested parties may read here.

To be honest, the prospect of RPing on an erotic-themed site is incredibly nerve-wracking to me because I feel that my sex scenes need a lot of work. I enjoy thinking about and going through them, but often my writing is completely unerotic and I find it pretty shameful. The idea that any of these failings may be documented for a long time on a public record is one I'm unsure about; it's either sickeningly embarrassing, or will serve as motivation to choose my words carefully, or else just let them flow and try to care less.

This isn't to say that I just want to use this as a practice space, though. The idea of an RP community where sexual content is not only welcome but encouraged is very appealing to me, because most general use RP communities are almost exactly the opposite, using the terms "sexual RP" and "cyber" interchangeably, which doesn't sit right with me. I won't elaborate here for fear of alienating someone who might find that valid, though.

If there are any frequent posters here who would be willing to kind of chat me through this, I would really appreciate it. This is not "my scene" whatsoever, but I would love any advice someone might give on making it my scene. I am trying to keep as open a mind as I possibly can coming in here.

One thing that I find different about me is my dedication to character. This seems like something almost silly here, and the approach (from being on a site for erotic stories, I'd guess) is very different. I think in my case, "dedication" is a code word for "one-trick pony". Often, I'll use my character kind of like a doll; I'll pluck him from one point in his storyline and place him in a setting, I'll change his look around a bit, I'll change his circumstances (wealth, success, friendships, etc.), but the core remains the same, in appearance and "soul". I think I derive comfort from this single character and feel no real compulsion to try and change, although I know if I was a serious writer, I would. . .this is why I don't call myself a serious writer. I am too self-indulgent for it.

If this means I'll have no place here, then so be it. I'll chalk it up to my own failing and go back to leaping on my poor friend who comes on three times a year: "SO HOW ABOUT YOU MAKE A ____ and S/HE ____!!!"

Anyway, PMs to my of_death_and_survival name on Yahoo are welcome if people are nice. . .or even if they aren't, I won't cry if you tell me to shut up.

Setting Introduction

The Lowcountry is on the tip of the Aethean continent's peninsula on a world called Muserae. Some centuries ago, it was a lush farming community, but has since fallen to disrepair. It had been absolutely ravaged long ago by the many unsavory characters led to it on a wild goose chase for a magical artifact which might not even have existed, and has not recovered.

What remains of its cobbled streets have been grown through in many places, its tall, oil-burning street lamps are lit only on occasion, and law is but a distant memory. Horrors befall travelers and residents alike on regular occasion, and consequences are meted out only by vigilantism. Large expanses of plains and forestry can be found beyond streets that end without warning, and the poorest on the continent often reside along the flooded coast, rowing to their squat homes in rickety boats.

Slavery, though not uncommon, seems to befall only those passers through unfortunate enough to be swept up by the slavers, who are more likely to try and entice a mark to join in as a fellow trader (only to shackle the naive fool once s/he agrees) than kidnap outright, though such has happened before.

One might do well to worry more for their safety beneath the mercy of those unsavory creatures which breath its dark nights in as life. . .

Casting Call?

I, personally, have a soft spot for deceptively attractive female vampires who do much to lull their marks into a sense of safety and importance with a true eye toward keeping them for sustenance. However, as this is my first thread, it is an open thread! So long as your characters don't absolutely shatter the old-era mood (it is a bit more socially advanced than a classic medieval setting, i.e., strong-willed women are not uncommon, but it lacks electricity, engines, modern textiles (denim, etc.) and high-powered guns), you're welcome to try the setting out. Feel free to PM me for clarification, though my post should help.

Finally time for a post!

Exhausted from a long night's work, where should the artist wind up but away from the safety of Council law? He had come to care so little any longer, not knowing what his success ought to be measured by. Should his ego swell to know that he has consistently, with professional mind, turned down the young adult daughters of his elder male commissioners? Or should his feet drag that in spite of any efforts to be of respectable stock, to rise to a place of prominence, he remains in the most essential sense alone, returning night after night to his Estates and to his bed with nothing but the phantoms of women past to keep him company?

With such matters heavy on his heart, he passes through the broken streets at an ambling pace, his stride long but occasional, for his was no true destination. He wanted only to be wrapped in the ugly arms of this low place that had spit him into this wondrous world to begin with. Perhaps by its twisted design he would be given clarity, wrapped in an unsuspecting box. Dressed in the same neat, black suit that would afford him his air of respectability in Celfaire, he was out of place in this land as ever he was. The only difference was that he knew better now, but did stand there out of supreme stubbornness regardless.

Well, some fresh blood. How nice.

Welcome to Literotica's Online Roleplaying Forum (ORP), which is distinctly different from the Sexual Roleplaying Forum (SRP), hence the two names.

Anyways, here in the ORP, you cannot make a thread/story that has a sexual theme. If you do, it'll be moved to the Sexual Roleplaying Forum, sometimes without warning.

Here in the ORP, we love quality writing, in fact we almost demand it. If you're going to put up crappy posts, head either to the General Board or the SRP. Just be warned that the General Board is full of...unfriendly people who will berate you and call you names.

As stated above, erotica does not play a major role here in the ORP. You can have some erotica in a story, just don't make it the theme. And don't worry about being bad at writing erotica. If you were ambitious enough, you could go looking at my 2,727+ posts and you will find that not a single one of them has an erotic theme. While I may read the erotic stories here at Lit, I will not write erotica, mainly because I can't.

So, with the basics out of the way, I welcome you to Lit and wish you good luck and fun times. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Alright, thank you. I was under the impression that having a character rather than a particular concept was more a this-forum-thing than that-forum-thing. I'm not used to the forum format at all, I've always been more of an improvisational RPer than the sort to map out a storyline beforehand. I'd have rather just posted an introduction to myself OOC and tried to see if anyone had any interest, but since all I saw was RP, I wasn't sure if that was welcome.

I'm guessing I should probably have just waited until I had an actual scenario in mind rather than just wanting to throw a character somewhere. . .

You aren't the first person to have that impression.

From my experience, it is best that when you start a thread here, you best have a story in mind, or else you'll get very little interest. Any interest you do get will quickly fizzile out.

I've also noticed that a particular method of running the story works the best. The two longest running RPs in this forum, The Illusion Vale and Dragons and Magic II, use a story-teller method of running things, where the person who started the story controls where it goes much like how the "Game Master" of many pen-and-paper RPs like D&D control where the story goes.

However, the most common method, and by-far the least successful, of running a story is for the person who created the story to make a character and drop to the level of a common player, rather than the person who's supposed to control the story. This method allows other players to control the story, which can lead to some serious problems, mainly the story spinning out of control.

All of this may seem overwhelming, but if you take it easy and go slowly, you'll get used to it and find that RPing here is an easy endeavor.

Hey sweetie! I'm so glad to see you on Lit! Welcome to the best board on the net!

Edited to add:

I have known and RPed with Vixo for many moons in Yahoo and have to admit, this is one of the best RPers any of you will EVER likely see. Do not miss this opportunity to play with her, because to RP with her means you will have deeply engaging, interesting and dramatic plotlines full of memorable characters and moments so full of emotion you will totally lose yourself in how realistic the RP is. Believe me, I know. This girl can suck you in better than anyone and make you forget you're typing in front of a screen.

Now that is something I'd like. I just hope I haven't scared her off with my introduction and whatnot.

....Waaiit a minute..."She"?

Yeah, my character's a dude, I'm not. I'd rather not go into the explanation if that's OK. This was kind of discouraging:

but she'll help me get used to playing here. :) Seeing as Nick's employed in creative things, rather than destructive things, and his isn't an especially ambitious personality, he's not fit to lead a storyline. . .nor do people really make the sort of stories he'd have a place in. I mean, no one posts going "OH GOD, WE NEED A PORTRAIT ARTIST, STAT." I normally don't even do the "you can play..." thing but I thought it was necessary here. The technical aspects of forum RP are lost on me, but once I learn that I'm sure I'll be OK. When RP still happened in Yahoo chat I got a lot of people going "WTF, go do that kind of shit in forums, not here!".

Ideally, it wouldn't be your character leading a story, it would be you who leads the story.

Well, seeing as how you know someone here, I guess I'll slip back into obscurity and let satin help you get adjusted here.

Again, welcome to Lit. Hope you have a wonderful time here. :)

Very Interested!!

I had a friend that invited me to the sexual roleplay, they based it on Twilight, so thought maybe some good roleplay mixed in with the sex, I could handle. Needless to say, that was a joke!!! I really love a good roleplay with lots of detail, your initial description was very well done and has my attention. Kinda lost on where to go from here. I could use a little direction. Talk to you in private, or here, or an OOC thread? Will be awaiting your reply!!!:rose:

Wow, someone bumped this thread. I wish I could succeed on this forum, forum RP would be perfect for me lately. :( Poop.
