Proposed 'welcome' post
Here you can meet fellow Litsters, fellow writers, hang out and hopefully make a few friends.
There are a few threads we think you should check out, both here in the Lounge and on the main SRP board, to help you find your way around, to introduce yourself and to find people to write with.:~
• Introduce yourself! – Drop by and say ‘Hi’
• SRP Writer’s Profiles – Help other writers discover your personal preferences when it comes to writing by making your own profile. You can then link to your own profile in your sig!
• Existing Threads Needing Writers – This thread is perfect if you’re looking for a thread to join. Threads needing writers to join them for one reason or another are posted here.
• Seeking RPers and Inspiration – If you have your own idea for an SRP thread then post it in this thread and ask interested people to PM you (Don’t forget to enable your PMs!) This is another great place to look out for potential threads to join.
• SRP Absence and Abandonments – If you know you’re going to be offline for a while this is the place to let your co-writers and friends know.
There are also threads to help with inspiration and sharing ideas:~
• Visual inspiration – sexy image thread – A goldmine of stunning visual images to kick start you and your muse!
• Thread and writer appreciation thread – Read something you really enjoyed? Tell us about it here.
There are also lots of other public threads which anyone can and should post in!
Here are some fun threads for general banter and randomness (and this list is by no way exhaustive!), the titles are pretty self-explanatory so we can dispense with descriptions…
• The Last Thing You Thought…
• How do you feel right now? “I’m ______ “
• What are you doing right now?
• Thank you, ________
• Things that made you smile today
• Things that made you swear today
• Song of the Day
• The Confessional
And here are some threads for dropping in and chatting with your fellow members, to have a little fun and sometimes…engage in a scene if the mood strikes. These threads are open to all who want to visit them but again, be considerate of your fellow posters and if two posters are in the middle of ‘something’ maybe avoid trying to directly engage them in conversation
. There are many ‘open’ threads but here are a few of the most active at the moment!
Why not stop by and find the hang out thread that suits your mood…
• The Outlook
• The Western Woods
• The China Pearl Inn
• Lily’s After Hours Club
• Welcome to Hell
Many members also have personal threads, their own corners of Lit, used for keeping track of their threads, their ideas and sometimes for playing scenes with other members.
A word on etiquette…
People's personal threads are frequently an extension of their Lit persona where they can have some one on one time with people as and when they call by. My cottage is my own little corner of Lit where I can ramble and talk to myself and then entertain visitors. Visitors usually stop by when time does not allow us to have an SRP thread of our own and we want to play out a particular scene or when things that start in a more public thread are moved there to prevent stalling someone else's thread.
Clicking on the first post of a thread will generally let you know if you’re welcome to just ‘come on in and post’! Use a little discretion if you can see that there is a scene in play and perhaps wait until things have finished before dropping in to visit!
The more public lounge threads, like the Pearl or the Outlook, are places you can drop by and see who else joins you/is already there. As the very eloquent Ausus once put it…
“If it's open, then join in at any point. You can walk through the door, mystically appear, pop in, come crashing through the door, whatever works for you. Then you say hi to those who are present, if there are any present and integrate yourself into the action that is currently happening. If there isn't anything happening, do something! Lots of people will enter a lounge if someone else is there... and sometimes they won't.
If the thread is closed... it's a different ball game. If you don't know the thread owner, say in the case of my Chateau (which is my closed thread), you can leave a note at the door, if you haven't been invited in. But if you do, say.. in DW's Mansion, and you're friends with that person, then most of the time that thread is open to you.
For instance, Brit's cottage, it's a closed thread. If she was in the middle of posting a scene there with someone, you may not want to interrupt, depending on where she is in the action. I've left a quick note and flowers for her, just before she's been in scene with someone. It's a nice thing to do. Yeishia, has in the past left flowers and notes in all the closed threads for holidays. Think of the closed threads... as people's homes. Unless you knew them really well, you wouldn't pop in unannounced. “
Please try to be considerate of other posters, please try to be understanding. You’re absolutely entitled to state your opinion, but you must remember so is everyone else. You don’t have to agree with or even have to like what others say but they can say it if they want. We’re all adults, if you don’t like the way someone conducts themselves, use your ignore button…that’s what it’s for after all.
We all know that the many nuances of conversation are lost through the words we type and so comments meant come across as jovial or light hearted might be perceived differently. With no tone or facial expressions to assist us (besides emoticons!) it happens.
And it’s nothing to get upset about. Point out any confusion you have and accept the apology or explanation that is almost certain to follow!
Remember the Lounge is whatever you want it to be for you!
Come, be yourself in whatever form you choose and start getting to know people!
