I've never heard of such a thing...

"The dom look"????

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear that is some Ren Faire dbag with a long pony tail, goofy facial hair, and a vest.

The world is run by men who wear suits and ties. THink about it.

'Zactly.

The world is run by men who wear suits and ties. Think about it.
That's why I haven't worn a suit or tie in more than ten years. I don't wanna run the world, and if I'm not wearing the uniform, they won't try to get me to do it.

I looked like a clean-cut jock in high school. Of course, that was waaay back in the day. None of us had even heard of doms and subs.

What was "the dom look" when you were in high school? Was it something specific to hair, clothes or body modification? Or are you referring to an attitude thing?

To be honest I didn't know there was a "Dom" look...

My perception is that Dommishness is in the mind, and that this shows not in dress-sense, but in a natural aura of quiet, calm confidence.

The aura thing is as much a myth as the clothes thing.

There are D-types across a wide spectrum of personalities, as well as dress.

Most of the people I have mat have been at a casual munch and so I haven't picked up on a "Dom look".

If I had to set aside personality, aura and just the sense I get from someone & tell you what I would be attracted to in a Dom; it would be a guy in a suit. Of course, guys in suits can just be as much a pansy as the next guy, but that it my particular taste. But as JMohegan said, it's got noting to do with the clothes (unless you're wearing a clown suit or tutu, that I would find difficult not to laugh at no mappet how Domly you are).

bedroom answer: if you are doing the bedroom D/s thing, or only at certain times, then how you are at work is no issue as long as you are the way you want to be when you play

24/7 answer: if you are in a 24/7 relationship, then your work is just art of you. most 24/7ers have such inate slaveness or masterness r domness or whatever, that it just flat doesnt matter what thier job is, they dont lose it when important. for example: a slave who has a job as a teacher (a very in control, in charge job). it doesn't change who they are.

Must just be me then! I would have no interest in being dominated by a man who didn't have that aura, cos without that quality that I don't respect a man sufficiently to let him dominate me. So, for me, it's all in that calm, quiet, confident -and benign - demeanour. A quiet, non-arrogant, but utter, self-possession.

Why not ask? In order for you to be "losing respect in the dom/sub community" then you must already be a part of that community. So ask the others in your community.

We, on the other hand, don't have a clue who you are or what you look like whether you're all decked out in your "dom look" or your chinos and requisite dark colored button-down shirt. Asking us simply does not count.

Quoted for truth.

I hate ties with a passion that burns like a thousand fiery suns.

Being a submissive, when I have to wear them (which is distressingly often) I just think of them as fancy collars-and-leashes for Goddess to yank when she gets the urge. ;)

This is, in no small part, why I hate them.

I got a really clear picture of "the dom look". It's sort of hard to explain, but I saw this guy rocking it at the Hellfire Club once. He had some bimbo tied up and was doing a very elaborate routine on her and everyone was kind of standing around as if they were watching a heart transplant.

The best way I can explain it is that "Three Musketeers" thing Mick Fleetwood has on the cover of Rumors* except more, you know, sort of sadistic.

That's hilarious! I've seen a bit too many people like that myself.

I rock a suit and tie every day and I think I've got the Dom look harder than ever.

Yes, indeed you do. :)

It's an attitude and a personal bearing, not the external trappings (which can be fun and helpful). Clothes do NOT make the PYL/pyl.

I think the photo says it all. Being a Dom doesnt have much to do with clothing, its an attitude, a bearing and a look in the eye! If that is your nature then everyone will see it, regardless of what you look like. Just as, I think, my submissiveness is written all over me.

Nice pic, Marquis. I had to look twice to find you, though. ;)

Funny... I don't do the whole "Dom look" thing in everyday life. As a matter of fact, I'm a rather quiet (unless pissed off), laid-back, unassuming sort to most of the world, even rather slump-shouldered a good share of the time. Of course, part of that can be laid to chronic back issues
(for which I'm currently doing rather painful PT - painful not at the time of doing the "stuff" I have to do for the PT, but afterward  ), and part to spending much of my life at a computer, typing my fingertips to the bone. (Well, actually, typing the letters off the keys. I think I've posted a pic of one of my keyboards here somewhere with all the letters from S to K {and the keys above and below that area} just about completely vanished... in about a year and a half of use. My latest keyboard, from Dell, seems to be made of somewhat sterner stuff, though. After a year of use, the letters are all there, but the keys in that same area are now glossy black instead of matte black, and there's a noticeable *dent* in the space bar, right where my right thumb hits it.)

I've been told more than once, though, that it's my voice that alerts pyl types... especially when it's my pyl. And then the look in my eyes. I dunno. I'm not exactly one to gaze into the mirror and try to Dom myself. But then again, I'm not *really* a Dominant. I'm a Sadist with Dominant tendencies. :caning:

Well, I don't think what you wear reflects anything, its you that matters.

If people aren't looking at you the same its cause you have changed. Do you think your job makes you less? If you do, it does.

And personally, if I was in the role, I would find some way to loose the tie. They are just too... reducing.

And then some jobs are just disgraceful, anytime you preside over immoral corporate actions, then you just plain suck.
