is there a reason once a thread hits page two the chances of getting a response decline rapidly?

I know the site was being finicky over the weekend, but how long of a lull between posts is considered a lost thread?? I don't want to pester a fellow writer, but I don't want to have everyone thinking it's not their turn to post.

People take about eight to ten posts to get a good feel on their writing partner's style, and the plot usually shakes out a direction within thirty. The real fact is that most threads die at this point because people don't communicate enough about what they want, or it comes out that what both people want isn't the same thing.

My usual rule of thumb is to wait a week then do a PM reminder, and then after that forget about it if I get no response. At the same time, though, I'm a very laid back person and have the luxury of a talented and long-term writing partner, which makes me a lot less invested in how anyone else works out.

I meant the second page of forum, not the second page of writing. *giggle*

my thoughts on why page 2 often dies

i think both writers need to discuss the roleplay in detail before they start it. they need to set the scene up together and discuss in detail about where it's going to go. of course not everything, but the general path. then they discuss their likes and dislikes. then once that is agreed on they begin.

i think too many writers just want to jump in and i think it's kinda of like jumping into bed with a guy....they look good when you see them....and you go to bed with them...but you quickly find out that are not even close to what you want and you regret it. nothing like knowing the person well first before getting into bed with them. of course that's an analogy not from experience...ehem.

that's a good point Debbie. I think that's why I try to have my fingers in a lot of pies so to speak
