Since it's come up several times, I thought I would attempt an answer to this question. Some seem to have a really hard time understanding the difference between "real" and "fiction", and here you can substitute "fiction" for "Role Play (RP)" for chat purposes. I'm no longer a mod, but was until recently at time of writing. This is my view.

Summary (or TL;DR):
In the context of family interactions:
Stories published to Lit are fictional, and are pre-approved. Stories breaking the rules can be prevented from being published.
Posts to Lit Chat are assumed to real unless stated otherwise and are not pre-approved.
Chat mods assume any familial discussion is real, unless stated otherwise, as there is no implicit assumption of "fiction".
It is the chatters responsibillity to make clear when they post in chat in that their post relates to fictional topics only.
The Family RP room is a place in chat to discuss fictional (or RP) scenarios which comply with site rules.

Long answer

At the time of writing, this is how things are. The site content guidelines have this to say (snipped to relevant parts):
To that end, we DO NOT publish works of any type featuring the following content:
Works professed to be true about real people in the title, tags, and/or description. You can use “true” within the body of a story as part of your fictional storytelling. This policy is to protect authors as well as third parties.
The above guidelines apply to all content published on Literotica, including but not limited to – stories, poems, audio, artworks, comments, feedback, and forum posts.

There is no prohibition on stories relating to inter-familiar activity, as long as it adheres to the other rules (such as all people being over 18 and so on). The above rule means that all stories which are published on Literotica, all of which are actually reviewed before publication, are fictional, not real, made up. If the Lit reviewers feel a story is a "true" story rather than fictional, they can prevent publication and requested changes *before* the story is made available.

But the fundamental point remains - the works reviewed and published by Lit are deemed to be fictional.

Chat has effectively the same rule - discussion of some "real" scenarios are NOT allowed, discussion of some fictional scenarios are allowed (again snipped for brevity):
3. The following topics will result in an Instant and Permanent Ban from the chat services and possibly from Literotica.com com entirely. The legal age on Literotica.com is 18 years old or over. There is no discussion or further warnings for these topics or rules.

C. Discussion of any sexual activity (or grooming towards activity) with family members of blood relation or inherent power dynamic. (real life)

In Chat, there is no implicit expectation that what people say is fictional. On one line they could be talking about their favourite book, on the next they could be asking to discuss family interactions. All the Mods have to go on is the context and content, which is often ambiguous and unclear - it's a dynamic, fast paced communication mechansim with no one reviewing what is said until after it's posted. Effectively though, the rule is no different for chat than for stories or the forum.
The difference in chat is the enforcement as there is no implicit assumption of "fiction". If you do not actively make clear your chat post about family interactions is RP,or fictional, the Mods will assume it is related to real people and will act accordingly, to protect all involved. This is because there is no chance to pre-approve the post, and people who do want to discuss that content will actively exploit that if they can.

Make no mistake, there are plenty of people who try that, even with the rules stated as clearly as they are.

So fundamentally, the two parts of the site have the same rule - no discussion of real familial interactions. On the story side this is enforced through prior review and approval, meaning the stories you read are already considiered to be fictional, and on the chat side by the assumption that any discussion is real unless the author explicity stated otherwise This means that even in chat, there must be an active assertion by the author of the post, much like when they publish a story, that they are complying with site rules. Without this assertion, the user can face sanction.

So the how about the Family RP and Taboo Rooms?
Well given what we've established above, discussion of these fictional scenarios is allowed in general (assuming the rules are complied with). That said, like other topics, Lit is aware they are not for everyone, and therefore provides a space for people to discuss those fictional topics with others, and requests people keep that discussion to those rooms so the people who do not like the topic do not get it shoved in their faces. There are good reasons for this room segregation which I won't go into here.

What about x post on the forum?
Chat mods have no control over what is posted to the forum, and it's down to the forum mods to ensure that posts comply with the rules. If you feel something posted to the Forum is in breach of the rules, report it to the appropriate forum mods. It might be, because of the difference between chat and the forums, Forum mods can manage things in a different way. That's down to them and if you feel it's not consistent with site rules, ask them, not the chat mods, who by and large, cannot answer.

Hope that helps with some understanding.
