The List

So, my SO and I came up with a list, long ago and far away, of all the things that we have never done and want to do before we die. Morbid? Kind of. But, the idea was that if we wrote them down, we might actually make a priority out of getting them done so that, in our old age, we would be satisfied with the experiences we had. Some of them are silly and seem insignificant to others, but the point is just to enrich our lives and try to experience all that we want to.

Our list is way too long to publish here, but I will share with you 10 items from my personal part of the list:

1. Get in a food fight
2. Go to a symphony
3. Learn a martial art
4. Read at a poetry reading
5. Pet an orangutan
6. Take belly-dancing lessons
7. Try caviar
8. See the ocean
9. Climb a rock wall
10. Of course, write a novel that gets published

If you had a list (and some of you may already), what are some things that would be on it?

1. Drive from my home (Massachusetts) all the way to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

2. See New Zeeland.

3. Learn Japanese

4. See Antarctica

5. Learn Ballroom Dancing

Hmmmm... I know there is more...

I made this kind of list when my husband and I decided to divorce; seemed a good time to set some goals for myself.

1. Run a 5K
2. study a martial art
3. learn to speak Italian
4. learn to surf
5. take cake decorating classes
6. go on a cruise
7. go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans
8. go on an African Safari
9. learn to scuba dive
10. go skinny dipping

See the ocean? Wow, its weird the things you take for granted. :)

Yep . . . never have seen it. Haven't even flown over it. I've only seen the ocean in movies and pictures . . . and the occasional dream.

My God. I lived by it for 18 years! I feel very sorry for you - it is the most wonderful thing in the world.

In no particular order:

1. Run a half-marathon
2. Get published
3. Find someone who loves me and whom I love
4. Have children
5. Have a season of rugby where my name is first on the teamsheet
6. Go to every continent (I've been to Europe, Australasia and N. America so far)
7. ...

I've kinda killed my list recently. I've finished my novel, I've been bungee jumping, I've been hanggliding and steetluging, I've ridden a horse (through Rohan no less!), I've lived in a village without electricity or any conveniences, I've fallen in love, I've scored a try in men's rugby. I'm running out!

Travel, travel, travel - I want to go everywhere

Wake up next to a beautiful woman and know that I'll get to do so for the rest of my life

Watch the children I love grow into the wonderful adults that I know they'll be

Walk out of a casino up instead of down  :D

1. Travel to Europe
2. Drive a race car
3. Sunbath in the nude
4. Hit the lottery
5. see #4 above
6. see #4 above ...

I'll give this a go, since I've never had a list before (might have been helpful at times, though...)

1. Publish a novel
2. Publish (officially) a short story
3. Be on television/radio (even if only for a second -- the 15 minutes of fame deal, even if it doesn't take fifteen minutes and isn't really fame)
4. Learn a martial art
5. Get into a steady exercise program
6. See the ocean (And I'm not that far away)
7. Fall in love (even if only for a short time)
8. Learn to live without any fear (even if only for a short time -- not excepting this one)
9. Have children (plural)
10. Grow old

note to readers: Technically, this is a first draft.

p.s.:

11. Learn to dance.

I want to drive across the country. I started out to do that. Tragically, the car was rear-ended onthe Dewey Highway in New York, and totaled. This was not very far from Syracuse, where we spent the next week. It was sad, man.

The result was good, for the fellow i was going to LA with. He went home and bought a new car. Then, in quick succession, he got his first remunerative job in his field, found the love of his life, and began to prosper, much more than ever in the past.

Me? I pretty much just went home. But I was the man who married him to this love, when they did that.

Still. A dream is a dream. Driving to the West Coast is one of the things I want to do be fore I get too old to be able to.

To do? Hmmmm.

Get published in mainstream Lit (I have already in scholarly journals)

Take flying lessons, earn my pilot's license, fly solo

Further my study of Buddhism

Study Yoga

Learn ballroom dancing with my husband

Make intelligent investment decisions so our kids have college tuition money

Spend time in Chicago with a good friend :rose:
