I'm somewhat surprised at the continuing reaction to Harvey's, and his brother's it seems, behavior. While men of power tend to attract the attentions of women, and some force their attentions on women, this has always been blatantly true in the entertainment sector. Sexual scandal and the entertainment profession are damn near synonymous.
They are protected by their friends and business associates. Friends do it for the obvious reasons, they don't believe that things are really as bad as they really are. Same with the business associates, don't do anything to interfere with the cash flow.
Anyone that dares to call a spade a spade is castigated, blackballed, banned. Speaking truth to power just can't be tolerated to any degree whatsoever. But eventually the 'favored' fall out of favor, the gravy train dries up, the magic touch isn't so magic anymore. And the 'protectors' of these rapists/perverts start to fall silent in their defense of these shitheads. And once the band wagon starts rolling many of them will switch sides, deny any knowledge, or even worse, make excuses for the assholes behavior, and their own.
Of course for those that were early in denouncing the assholes behavior, calling a spade a spade, the damage has already been done. They've been castigated/blackballed/banned for having dared call a spade a spade. Oh, they'll make all sorts of excuses for having done so, make new rules, compromise principles, whatever it takes to hold themselves blameless.
But the fact remains that they are ethically and morally bankrupt for having done so. They have by their actions, inaction's, or both, incentivized the behavior of incorrigibly corrupt.
It would be nice to think that these behaviors, on the part of the perverts and their protectors both, were restricted to the Hollywood circles. Unfortunately it isn't. You see it everyday.
