When every legally cast vote has been counted, Joe Biden will probably have prevailed in enough states to claim victory in the presidential race, perhaps even ending up with a few more Electoral Votes than Donald Trump managed to earn four years ago. That means Trump will probably be out, defeated in his bid for re-election.

But this is not a moment for Democrats to celebrate.

The speed with which the Republican party is running away from its champion is simply astounding.


If a Biden Administration demonstrates utility to even a fraction of those who voted for Trump, but do not count themselves as "his base", then Moscow Mitch will become the gravedigger for the Republican Party.

But, yeah, let's reframe the likely loss of the WH as actually a loss for the Dems.

if biden wins, that's gonna sting like a bitch to trump and all his sleazy followers. fancy getting beaten by 'sleepy joe', 'dementia-joe', 'too-old-for-the-job-gaga-joe'

sure, i agree it would have been great to see a better result... the senate flipped, more seats in the house. having said that, the priority has to be getting trump out of the job. ONLY by doing so may regular (dirty but less insane and well-understood) politics ensue. by taking power away from a megalomaniac with no idea or willingness to fulfil the duties of his job, this country has the ability to drag itself back from the brink of madness and regain some standing with the rest of the world.

Rather sure that 'group dynamics' you're alluding to began before Election Day when down ticket candidates in tight races started distancing themselves from Trump.

That’s pretty much where things stood going into the election, and where they stand now. Trump was just a disaster for this country on all fronts, and needs to go urgently. I don’t think the Republicans mind the taste of underhanded political fuckery. They seem to love the taste, they have been trying to twist and pervert the system to their advantage every possible way.

The left wasn't really represented in this election. The left was crushed in the democratic primary.
