The Left’s double standards of Justice makes me sick!

1. This was within sentencing guidelines for the offense, since he had no prior criminal history
2. North Dakota is one of the reddest states in the country, and their criminal justice system is not known for its left-leaning anything.
3. The guy himself has been registered as both a Republican and a Democrat in the past (in Florida before he moved to ND, which doesn't have registration by party), and there is absolutely no evidence that he is affiliated with Antifa in any way, as your link claims.

Nice try, though.

They do have a double standard, you're completely right. But, here's how I make sense of it.

EVERYONE thinks they are right. EVERYONE thinks they are fully justified. I am convinced that I am right just as much as the people I completely disagree with do. So, when someone on my "side" does something, I am more likely to look at it in a favorable light - when they are on the "other side", I am more likely to look at their actions in a critical light. This is something everyone does, it is reflexive.

A principled person will look at these things a second time, and will try to look at it as if the person was on the other side as well. If the person was on the other side, would it still be wrong?

If, when you switch out the sides, you find that you are giving a different answer of whether it is right or wrong, then you have discovered your bias and should hold true to your principles.

So, let's look again. Guy with an axe smashes in a door, destroys a security keypad and then leaves.

If he was on your side, would you look at him more charitably?

Personally, I would chalk this up to simple intimidation, and destruction of property. Make him pay for the repairs and do some probation. No one was hurt and he got caught.
