What themes in human sexuality do you find the most interesting that might have any tie-in with the legal system in the United States or even globally?

i guess its done to death some but right now im interested in homosexual civil unions the law is being changed in the uk to make it possible for gay couples to have civil partnerships

its not the same as gay marriages but it doe's give gay couples legal status which i think is most important anyway

also there was a recent vote on homosexual adoption in the uk

so legal sexuality wise homosexuality is the topic of the moment in the uk anyway

Homosexuality

Discrimination against gays and lesbians, definitely. Also oral and anal sex, which ties in with homosexuality. Nevada's sodomy law, for instance, used to prohibit ALL oral and anal sex, thus making even married couples who practiced it technically criminals. Utterly absurd.

At one time (long ago), sodomy laws didn't even say what sodomy was (it was like "that awful thing . . . you know"), which would make them void for vagueness by modern standards.

this is a big one, and the one that interests me the most.

why is it wrong to have sex w/ a 16 year old? If its consensual, there shouldnt be a problem.
And why is each state different? Lets have the same laws across the board.

There are a few states(TX, AL, GA?) and probably some others that only have laws prohibiting homosexual sodomy. Many other states have laws that prohibit all forms of sodomy no matter who the couples are. I think it is interesting to look at the history and background of the states that have those types of laws.

Ahh I just found the list here. http://www.sodomy.org/laws/

Most of the states that have repealed their sodomy laws did so in the 1970's.

Most of the states that sill have the laws are southern states or have traditionaly been fairly conservative there is an expetion thought when looking at Mass.

Look at all the laws related to it in Michigan I mean my god wtf.

Michigan §28.355/750.158 Crime against nature or sodomy: felony; not more than 15 years See:
§28.221/750.32 Cohabitation by divorced persons as adultery: felony;
§28.355/750.335 Lewd and lascivious cohabitation and gross lewdness: misdemeanor; not more than 1 year in jail or a fine of not more than $500.00
§28.570/750.338 Gross indecency between male persons: felony; not more than 5 years in jail or a fine more than $2,500.00
§28.570(1)/750.338a Gross indecency between female persons: felony; not more than 5 years in jail or a fine more than $2,500.00
§28.570(2)/750.338b Gross indecency between male and female persons: felony; nor more than 5 years in jail or a fine more than $2,500.00

Privacy rights is simply the most mportant legal question of this age. That will not change any time soon.

I'd agree with SG that the rights of homosexuality is probably the most important explicitly sexual legal question.

(note: Lavender this thread is incredibly vague. Are you looking for a more specific response?)

Is it illegal to fuck a pigeon and eat it afterwards in Idaho?

I'd agree with civil unions and homosexuality is the most prominent in the public eye on the legal system.

Are we including the disgusting immoral stomach binding side of human sexuality? Because I really think child molestation and pornography laws should be revisited.

also in the news in the UK today is that the british government has been forced to recognized transsexual marriages

not something to be proud of though considering we were one of the four last countries within the europe to do this

I think the idea of any government invasion into two consenting adults bedrooms - whether they be gay, or involved in bondage, or s/m. As long as they are adults, the government should have no right to dictate what they choose to do with each other.

Most states still have a sodomy law (i.e., two consenting adults cannot commit sodomy, even if they are married). Unfortunately, oralsex falls under sodomy. I think all these laws should be revoked.

And two of the others were Andorra and Albania!

I think those are the key words. "Concenting" and "Adult". If those are the people involved there should be NO government involvement at all.

I think I'm going to analyze how the radical feminist movement is patronizing to women and women's choice particularly in the area of consentual BDSM practices. I will also analyze the issue of consent and the criminalization of these sexual practices unnecessarily in order to beef up prosecution of domestic violence cases.
