As I'm writing this polls are just about to close in Kentucky and Indiana... This is when things get fun. All the bullshit is over for a few hours (or more, lol), and it's time to start counting things up. I've got a couple sites open to sit back and watch the returns:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/campfront.htm

http://www.msnbc.com/m/d2k/g/overview.asp

It looks like the msnbc site is going to be posting exit poll results as the polls close in each state. This sure beats the hell outta watching all those morons on the TV over analyze things.

Something to watch here right away... "Experts" I've seen say the first state to watch is Kentucky, apparently it's supposed to indicate how the too close to call states in the Midwest are gonna fall. From what I've being seeing, the "Experts" are saying if Dubbayah polls 52% or more in Kentucky, expect Tennessee, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas and West Virginia to go his way too. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Anyways, one last thing (polls are closing now, dammit), here's how I see the night going. Look for Dubbayah to take the popular vote by a 49%-46% margin, and something like 282-256 in the Electoral vote.

The cool thing is that we may not know shit until the morning... So make sure the fridge is full of beer and ya got extra popcorn, it's gonna be a looooooooooooooong night, lol!

I think I'll just turn in a little early later on this evening and get up a a bit early tomorrow and find out which side the electoral college ended up on. I'll take a beer 'tho....

I agree Bush'll take it, unfortunately, though I think it'll be a little closer. I was really hoping that Bush would be have it by a landslide by now so I could lick my wounds and go on with my life. Who knows? Maybe he is...they aren't being very forthright with the exit polls right now.

But what a race! Can't log on to ANY news site, or Drudge, because of the traffic right now. Whoever wins is gonna win by such a small margin that it can hardly be argued that they represent the will of the people. It's gonna be a rough Presidency for whoever takes it.

Damn. I'm gonna go take a walk, then grab a #4 plate with double rice. Meet y'all back here in an hour or so.

With mostly urban precints reporting, Bush is running about 56% in Kentucky. Not a good sign for Gore, but it is early.

Just looked at the exit poll results (on msnbc.com) for KY (looked at Indiana, too, but Gore is just getting crushed there, so...), and this just kills me... check out the results to a couple of questions here:

Which candidate do you think would say anything to get elected President?
Only Gore 41%
Only Bush 10%

Do you think that Gore would say anything to get elected?
Yes 78%
No 20%

Do you think that Bush would say anything to get elected?
Yes 47%
No 51%

Which candidate has the knowledge to serve effectively as President?
Bush 30%
Gore 28%

Did either of these candidates for president attack the other unfairly?
Al Gore did 30%
George Bush did 10%

So much for issues...

Just heard one prediction that Bush leads Gore in the popular vote something like 48.7% to 48.6%. Whatever the numbers were, Gore was only 0.1% behind Bush. Can it get any closer?

I don't think beer is going to do it tonight. I think this calls for chocolate.

I'm just waiting for someone to pontificate about the will of the people, and a sweeping mandate, and then I'm going to throw something at the television set.

The reason no one cares about the issues is that they haven't been pre-packaged into neat, sound-bite sized cliches. Without the cliche, an issue is unrecognizable as such, and people flounder about in a state of perceptual dissonance.

I think I'll pick up some Triple Brownie Overload.

Well, I'm hoping that this thread is the one place in the country where we can avoid pontificating, and screaming, and yelling, and all that happy horse shit. I don't mind people taking the time to post in a partisan manner if that's what's important to them. But I've had all the name calling, finger pointing, etc that I can take. Words like "stupid" and "liar" don't really tell anyone what's going on. I'm really just wondering if we can discuss politics and not fight about them...

And if anyone has the balls to use the word "Mandate" tonite, CL, I think they should have them cut off.

Lasher Just wanted to take the time to say you are the first person that has said something about the US elections that hasn't been long and drawn out, and that I have understood what you are saying.

Thank-you. I can now keep up with your election during my day and understand it all too.

I'll eat to that, Lasher. Heck. I'd even provide the scissors.

I just finished my first beer, Nicole, long and drawn out will come later, LOL.

CL, I'll use the scissors if you, uhhhh, hold the, uhhh, balls while we cut'em...

BTW, I was just looking at the exit poll results from Florida... I think Gore's gonna win it by about 2 points!. I dunno what the margin of error on that is, but the numbers there look really good for Gore.

Whatever happens in FL and PA will tell the story of how this is going to shake out. If Bush is declared the winner in those states early, it's over. If it's close in those states, this could go on and on and on.

Hey Lasher, Ridge will likely be a presidential candidate in the future, four years from now if Gore wins, eight if Bush wins. If Georgie Boy wins, Ridge will be in his cabinet and one of his closest advisors.

BTW, I voted for Ralph. Only because I hope he gets his 5% and matching federal funds for the next election.

Lasher sorry for being so stupid when it comes to your election but could I ask you something please?

I am on the msnbc site right now, you know just watching what is happening, could you tell me please, when they color a State in have they been counted fully, or is that just the counting at up to date times?

Your Prefrence and what not, I understand that not all counting will be done tonight your time, but it just got me thinking. Cause up to now looks like Bush is winning so far. Looks like those States are happy with what he said anyway.

Sorry I just don't know how your system works compared to ours, but I'm interested cause lets face it your Presidency really does count to the rest of the World.

Thanks.

Deb, I hear Ridge is getting Education, I think. If Dubbayah woulda picked him for VP this would've been over in about 15 minutes.

Nicole, if their colored in it means that based on exit poll results whoever's coloring in the states has decided that's who's gonna win the state. People have been taking polls every day leading up to the election, so there aren't many states thare are really going to be surprises. Some states have just been too close to tell who's going to win, so we'll actually have to wait to see how the vote count goes to know who's going to win them.

Basically, Bush is expected to win most of the states in the South, the Midwest, and the West, and Gore is expected to win most of the states in the Northeast, along with California... You're seeing a lot of red right now for Bush cause these are states he's supposed to win. It will even up more after 8 o'clock win some of Gore's states start coming in. Each state sets what time it closes its polls, so there'll be states coming in about every hour up til midnight. In some of the closer states, it's possible that we won't know who wins until all the votes are counted late tonite and into tomorrow.

The states that you want to keep an eye on, that are really close are Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri, Tennesse, Iowa, New Mexico, Washington and Oregon. And Deborah is probably right, if someone wins both Florida and Pennsylvania, he should win the election.

Hope that helps out.

Yes Deborah I should probably stick to Wombats but beleive it or not I actually am interested in your election, and since there ain't no-one on AIM or ICQ I can ask I thought I would ask Lasher, he explains things in plain English you see.

Okay Thanks Lasher, so in other words just keep refreshing my page every five minutes and keep an eye on those Particular States? Got it.

Thanks Lasher.

Yep, that's about it, Nicole.

USAToday and msnbc both just gave Florida to Gore! Unreal. All that time Dubbayah wasted in California this week just killed him in Florida.

But I called it first, LOL.

Dubbayah's gonna win New Hampshire, though.

Just refreshed my page and ... WOW alot happens between refreshes over there.

It seems pretty what even just now.

Okay Lasher then ... Diffrence between Electoral vote and Popular vote?? Which one counts?

Yes I am pretty Dumb when it comes to your voting, I understand ours though, which helps.

Nicole, something else to know (don't know if you know this or not), is that a lot of those states that are red for Bush, don't have many electoral votes (this is based on the state's population). The states that are blue for Gore have a lot of electoral votes. The map could appear to be 80% red for Bush, but Gore could end up winning in the end.

Thank-you Sonora.

So basically it works the same as ours does over here.

Thank-you everyone for your help.

The electoral votes are the ones that actually count. They are based on the popular vote of each state. It's a winner-take-all thing. You win the popular vote in the state, you get all of the electoral votes. At least this is the way it is assumed to be. I think that there has been some posts that some states electors are not bound to vote for the winner. Hopefully Lasher can come back and fix what I've broken.

You haven't broken anything Sonora.

I just want to take an interest because like I said earlier, what Happens in the States effects the whole world. I'm part of that world so I would like to follow it.

Thanks again.
