Joanne was worried, she was 8 months pregnant, everything was going well, her last scan showed that the baby was developing correctly and she was on target to meet her birthing date. The nurse was cleaning the gel from her stomach and asked of Joanne had any questions? "Just one" she stammered nervously, "I haven't started lactating yet and am worried I won't be able to breast feed my baby".
The nurse replied that some women started late, and not to worry too much, she explained that often lactation starts quickly after the baby is born. Seeing that her explanation hadn't provided much in the way of reassurance she also added that she could make an appointment with the lactation clinic, a private charity based organisation that would check her over and make sure everything was ok. Joanne eagerly nodded at this and asked if she could have an appointment this week.

The receptionist booked her in and she sat waiting for her name to be called. A tall good looking doctor walked out of one of the examination rooms, mature with grey hair and piercing blue eyes, he called her name and ushered her into the room.
