The Kiss (Closed for Jaylene and myself)
Gloria sat in the restaurant with three of the other girls from work. It was Halloween night and they had just gotten off work for the weekend. They all work at the branch bank near the restaurant, where Gloria was a loan officer, they often came here after work. Bernice was talking about all the little ‘ghosts and goblins’ would come by her house tonight, and then how her fat husband would sit on the couch all weekend watching football. The image sent a shiver through Gloria, as she had met Bernice’s husband at the bank.
Gloria glanced over at a group of younger people sitting at a table near them. Most were dressed in black with dark makeup. ‘Halloweeners’ she thought at first, then looked back to the girls at her table.
“Tomorrow it will be college games then Sunday, Pro games, every weekend is the same,” Bernice was saying.
Gloria turned back to the other table and noticed a girl dressed all in black, with long black hair and heavy black eye makeup. Her skin was very pale and her lips were very dark in contrast. She was an attractive girl if not for all the dark aura about her. She looked up and caught Gloria looking at her. Their eyes met and held each other for a moment, before one of the boys at the table said something to her.
“My husband is the same way,” Janice said. “Every weekend, football, football, football. Don’t they know how to fuck anymore.”
They all laughed at her statement.
Yes, a nice sweet fuck would be good. Curled up in bed all weekend with your lover. Gloria thought, her eyes going back to the dark haired girl. Maybe she’s suppose to be a Vampire?
Her eyes rested on the girls black lips, wondering if she had fangs hidden behind them. She thought about the Anne Rice novel she had read awhile back about Vampires. Her mind wondered to the book as she watched the girls’ lips. Unconsciously her head tilted to the side, exposing her neck.
“Gloria,……Gloria,…….Gloria,” Sharon said. “Earth to Gloria.”
“Huh…..what,” Gloria said turning to Sharon.
“Does your neck hurt or something,” Sharon said.
“No…..why?”
“Well the way you were holding your head it looked like your neck hurt.”
“Ah……no, I was just thinking.”
“Who were you looking at,” Bernice asked turning to look through the restaurant. “Did you see those Goth kids,” she added. “Weirdo’s if you ask me.”
The conversation turned back to husbands and Halloween, but Gloria kept sneaking peeks at the ‘Goth’ girl. She was intrigued by her, her pale skin and long black hair, so different from her short blonde hair. The dark makeup, again so different from her light blue eye shadow and pink lipstick. Her eyes continued to rest on the girls’ lips though, so dark, so inviting, and so ‘Vampirish’. Of course, she didn’t believe in such nonsense but the idea was romantic. She saw the girls lips turn up at the corners in a small smile and she raised her eyes to met the girls’ dark eyes staring back at her.
She blushed, but couldn’t look away, try as she might she was held be mysterious dark girl.
Sharon and Janice got up to go to the powder room leaving Gloria and Bernice alone. Bernice was the only one at the bank that knew that Gloria was gay, and had promised Gloria that she would never say anything, knowing it might stop and chances of promotions for Gloria.
“So get up and go talk to her,” Bernice said. “You know you want her, nothing ventured nothing gained.”
“Oh I couldn’t,…..she’s so different,……and she must be five years younger than me.”
“Well…..like I said, nothing ventured nothing gained. So spend another weekend alone.”
“Well girls, it’s been fun, but I got lots of goblins coming by so I’m heading out,” Janice said and she and Sharon returned to the table.
“Me too,” Sharon added, as they headed for the door and the cashier.
“Now or never,” Bernice said to Gloria.
Quickly Gloria found a slip of paper and pen in her purse. As she and Bernice walked by the girls table, Gloria stopped and handed the paper to the dark girl.

Call me.
As the girl looked up at her, taking the slip, she leaned down, holding the girls chin, she kissed her full on those beautiful dark lips. A thrill ran through her body, an erotic ecstasy like nothing she had ever felt before. Here she was in a crowded restaurant, her mouth pressed tight on another woman’s, for the world to see. She didn’t care, she wanted this woman more than she had wanted any other woman in her life. The kiss lasted for maybe five or six seconds and to Gloria’s surprise, the ‘Goth’ girl didn’t push her away or try to stop her, she just sat there and let Gloria kiss her. When Gloria released the girl she headed straight for the cashier, wishing she had paid her tab first, but then she hadn’t planned on kissing her either.
Her face turned crimson as she tried to pay her tab, the cashier smiling at her. A murmur of conversation rolled through the restaurant.
“Real slick,” Bernice said shaking her head at her as they made their way to their cars.
Gloria only had a few trick or treaters that night, living on the second floor of an apartment complex. She went to bed early, her dreams were filled with darkness, and mists as she ‘chased her sin into the gloom.’
