Liliana sat beside her ailing father in the throne room as the Dwarf read his missive..

Dwarf:

The dwarf holds up a scroll with the mark of Gurghan
"The great Grughan haas sent Gavin as envoy to show that he still believes in the alliance made long ago.. My servant Gavin will help you in anyway to search for your lady queen and heir... should the serach come to dwarven lands .. you will be welcomed...
Gavin hands the scroll to the servant which in turn give it to the king.

KING

Takes the scroll with his weak hands. his pale skin turning a greyish color due to the ailment that he has contracted... the king didn’t look like the famous man Peloor who saved the kingdom fifty years ago...

In a voice meant for a very old man Peloor says" Thank you Servant of Grughan.. you are welcome to our hospitality... and I will give you and answer to your missive in the morning.. now ... I will think on it.." He turned to his daughter to help him of his throne, but waited until the dwarf had left…. No one was going to know that the great Peloor needed assistance to help him back to his chambers..

Gavin bowed to the king and princess and followed the servant to his chambers that were being ready for him.

Advisor

An old man dressed in light blue robes lined with gold symbolizing rank, watched the dwarf leave, his hand on his staff tightened visably, he then leaned over and said "Sire, I don’t believe we need the help of the dwarves to find our queen. we will send our own envoy to look for them... perhaps I should collect our best warriors and have them seek out what happened…

King

Interrupting the advisor Peloor says, “I do not wish to hear this right now…” king getting aggravated begins to cough violently. Liliana picks up the glass of water on the table beside her and feeds it to the king. She helps her father stand from the throne and then helps him towards his private chambers.. “just go I wish to spend time with my daughter….” Not seeing the advisors displeasure at being spurned the king walked with his daughter.

Liliana

After helping her father to his bed. She sat down in the chair next to it.. she took her father’s hand and then said to him
“Father I am going to find mother and Tildiir .. please father give me your blessings… if
you don’t I’ll just go anyway… “

“Liliana my child please you don’t understand… If you would just marry then the throne would be saved…. “

Liliana interrupted her father, “No father this is Tildiir’s reign.. I will not take his place… You will see we have the missive from the wise one.. she told us she knew where Momma and Tildiir are… why wont you tell your advisor… “

“You Know why … we both know why… If he finds out that we know… then … besides I haven’t any more time…”

“No, do not say such things…”

“No child you do not understand…. I have lived a very long life… please… understand.. it is my time to go… “

“I will not accept that a man that has only live six hundred years will die.. why your were in your prime.. No, I will not accept that you are dying… I know it you have been poisoned.. why will you not ask the wise ones help… ?”

“It will be told to you in time child… “ Peloor sighed. If it is truly your wish then fine … but take the servant of Grughan with you, your bodyguard, my friend you will know him by the pendent he wears around his neck.. and whomever else you wish.. but do not let Him know of your intentions…”

“but father How will I find him…”

“Do not worry child … he will find you …”

“Okay Father I will leave as soon as I can… I will leave in the next tide.. I promise..”

“ If you have not found them in one month.. promise me you will come back.. I haven’t much more time then that .. and I wish to see you … before I pass into the next life…”

Liliana hesitated. She did not wish to see her father like this. But if he was letting her go then fine she would promise … “I promise father .by the Beltane ritual I will be here and marry ..”

“May the love of Lorena, be with you then child..” he closed his eyes then to rest with him..

later that evening…

Liliana finished strapping on her gear and grabbed her cloak as she headed out her chamber doors…

Delbaeth had heard the story of a hunter once, in the forests beyond Chaeon, who had tracked one of the elusive great white elks, an animal almost never seen in this day and age, for nine years. He had gotten to know all of its comings and goings, its passions during the mating season and the cold, growing despair it felt with the advance of winter. It came to pass that he knew the elk more intimately than he knew himself, he had learned its paths so well.

When the hunter eventually tracked it down, in the back of a cave where it could not flee, he pierced its heart with a spear. Then afterwards, he lapped up the spilt blood and cast aside his old skin to run in the forest as a white elk.

Delbaeth had learned Liliana's routines obsessively. There was more of ritual and habit in most lives than any of those who lived them realised, even for one as free-willed and independent than the princess. Delbaeth had tried to get to the point where, merely by shutting his eyes and concentrating, he could know where the princess was and be assured she was safe.

Whenever he thought he'd reached that point, however, she furstrated him by appearing where he didn't expect her, at times when he wasn't prepared. Like now, when she appeared in the training hall when she should have been asleep hours ago.

Delbaeth sighed, and turned aside from his shadow-fencing match. Every evening at this hour he went through the same ritual, fighting and refighting, with his body and in his mind, the sparring match that had killed his brother. He had turned it into a strange, darkly graceful dance, knowing with perfect familiarity, like the moves on a chessboard, each strike he'd made, each parry his brother had made, every feint and every movement of the wrists. Every evening he played it out, and each time tried to end the match differently, tried to act out a combination of movements from his brother's last parry that would change things, place Delbaeth or Jaedhar in a different position, so the fatal blow would never be struck.

And, instead, he killed his brother again, every evening.

Delbaeth was stripped to the waist, and still breathing regularly. He bowed as the princess entered.

"My princess. What do you wish of me?"

Liliana

she fidgeted with the dagger in her hand as she strode into the training room.. she spent hours deciding that she needed to release some pent up energy, so she had decided to go and practice with her daggers..

"Oh, actually I was unaware of you being here... " she glanced up when she heard the voice of her bodyguard. She took in the sight before her and said "I.. I ....w..was unaware that anyone would be training in here. I wasnt really wanting anything... really... just wanted to practice." her guard really made her nervous.. he was always so serious about his duty.. ..

She walked over to wear there was a traget in the far wall. She began to throw the daggers using her eye.. she hit the target dead center a few times she would go back and then tried throwing two at a time... didnt hit the target well enough. It was clearly written all over her intent face that she was deeply in thought of something.

After about an hour she stopped picked up the last two daggers she threw and then just as suddenly decided to leave.

She turned to se that her guard was watching her .. he looked at thought he was trying to piece a puzzle together in his head

She nooded to him and said" Well I guess I'll go to bed then.. " she left just as quickly as she came

Figured that she was less stressed and decided to look for the other members of the band that she was going to take with her... she fixed her hair so instead of being on top of her head it was down in a plait all the way to her bottom. she grabbed her dark cloak for her nightly visits to the tavern.. she knew just the tavern to go to to find that would have the people she was looking for... in an after thought she grabbed her harp... figured if she needed to get the attention of the people .. this would be a sure fire way..she smiled and thought she always liked pretending she was working for her food..

she slipped through her window and climbed down the tree that was outside it .. then ran to the gate and slipped out when the guards were changing shifts..then walked through the city until she found the tavern she was looking for.. The Lovely Lavender

She opened the door and slipped in. She signaled the tavern owner, whom she had arranged things with prior... she didnt want anyone to know who she really was.. after a second thought she hoped she had alluded her guard .. he seemed like he was on edge as though he knew her every step... she shook her head..if he followed her im sure he would let her know.. she simply hoped he wouldnt let anyone know .... the tavern owner saw her then nodded and made the necessary checks around the tavern and then nodded back

There were al lot men and women in the tavern.. it was a packed night.. The tavern was a vary well known tavern, it was one that mercenaries or nobles frequented .. sometimes there were travelers that would visit...
she went to the stage that they had set up for bards then ..pulled the hood of her cloak back her braid fell out and almost touched the floor of the stage she began to pluck the strings on her harp and started to play then she began to sing.. the normal lull of the tavern began to quiet down and pretty soon every one stopped talking to hear her..

She told a story in song about the days of old when the kingdom was plagued with invasion how the mighty king Peloor whom everyone loved had fought and upheld its kingdom..
after she was doen everyone roared with cheer.. many of the patrons were soldiers that had fought in that war and asked her to sing another ...

this was when she changed her tactic .. now that she had everyones attention she wanted them to hear her plea..

her sang a song of sorrow of a daughter's love for her ailing father .. and wished any to aid her in her mission she spoke of a time and place when the people would rally behind their king.. but there was a hush .. she spoke of a peace with a war hidden beneath. a fight to save the King who saved their people and in the end saved the kingdom herself.. she sang of it in a story like one of a story from old...

After she was finished.. it was quiet.. it was clear the song she had written had effected her audience.. everyone clapped and threw her some gold. she was showered with praise.. then she simply sat at the end of the stage and smiled...if anyone knew their history they would know there was no such daughter.. she knew that people that were going to want to help her would ask about the story.. and if she believed that they were true to heart .. she would ask them to join her..

she walked to the booth which she always sat.. a serving maid came and set down an ale.. she sat and sipped her ale...

Gavin

As he left the audience room with his entourage, Gavin felt a want to explore the castle and, with King Peloor giving him his blessing in this kingdom, felt free to roam where he wanted.

Elegant tapestries lined the great halls that lead everywhere and nowhere it seemed. Some depicting quiet, subdued scenes of the surrounding countryside, and others depicted far away lands of other kindoms, obviously gifts from foreign diplomats as the style of artestry and quality differed from that of the Elven Weavers, yet most shown great battle victories of past kings and of King Peloor. Gavin took in a few and remember the histories about the kings heroism, and felt a rising respect for the ailing king. New honor arose in him at the thought of helping the Elven kingdom find their hier apparent.

Wondering on further, Gavin found himself in the courtyard between the stables and what looked like a gymnasium. He sighed a laugh at himself, "Always one to find the training room," he said softly. But before he started across the courtyard, Gavin saw someone with a determined nature head toward his destination. It was Princess Liliana, playing with what looked to be daggers.

As she entered, she stopped in the doorway, her head jerked up in surprise. She spoke while still flipping the daggers between her fingers, then resumed her course. Gavin approached and watched from the door. Already the princess was in a post throw stance, and a thump drew Gavins attention,... a bullseye!! He looked back to the princess who was readying another dagger, 'Nice stance, good balance', Gavin thought to himself. The dagger flew threw the air and landed neatly next to the first. Then Gavin noticed another figure in the room, a shirtless male elf, well muscled as far as elves go, standing off to one side watching the princess practice.

As Gavin watched the princess, he saw her shoulders tighten slowly, and her throwing arm begin to overextend. Something was on her mind other than practicing. She stopped and turned suddenly realizing the male had been watching her the entire time. "Well, guess I'll go to bed then," Gavin heard her say as he slipped into a shadow. As soon as the princess exited, Gavin moved inside the door.

"Well, she has a great understanding of the technique, but her grasp of self control is a bit lacking. Still, all in all, I wouldn't want to be within 20 yards if she were upset," Gavin chuckled heartely.

The elf apparently hadn't found it as amusing as Gavin had intended it, because his lip only curled as he reguarded Gavin. Perhaps dwarven humor was lost on elves.

"I was going to practice myself, but I've lost the want. Where can one find a stout honey ale in these parts?"

Now the elf slightly smiled,"The Lovely Lavender."

......

As Gavin approached the tavern, he could hear a sweet sound resounding through the windows and open door...a war song. He entered and took a high stool at the bar. After recieving his order and taking the first warm swig, he turn to watch the the minstress finish her alluring battle chanty. Gavin nearly choked from what he beheld! The princess! He sat there in disbelief while she started another tune.

Her audience was rapt and every head watched as she plucked her harp and sang. her body swayed to the rythym that she made. Men watched with passion, women with compassion. This new song was familiar, yet Gavin could not place it from the histories that he knew. As she finished and coin was tossed her way, Gavin approached the booth she had taken.

"Your melody was intriguing, yet I'm not sure as to the origin. Maybe one of royal blood could tell me it's meaning?" Gavin said, giving her a knowing eye...

"Your melody was intriguing, yet I'm not sure as to the origin. Maybe one of royal blood could tell me it's meaning?" Gavin said, giving her a knowing eye...

Liliana looked from her ale when she heard a familiar sounding voice... she looked to find that the dwarven emmissary was standing in front of her..
"well why dont you have a seat and I will tell you from which royal I hear it from...

The Dwarf took a seat.

She looked around and saw that the majority of the people there were either elves, half elves, halflings, gnomes, or humans.. she smiled.. and spoke in dwarven, "please have a seat i have to ask you a question and I am sure that you will know what I speak of.. "

"I am going to look for my brother ... you can either help me .. or go back home.. it is of course your choice... my father asked me to take you ... but I will leave the choice up to you."

When she looked for a reaction from Gavin, he simply sat there sat there and did not move.. he waited...as if waiting to hear what else she had to say...

"I am going to leave as soon as the next tide comes in .. there will be alot of noise in the city as new commers come and go from port.. I will be taking the northern route .. going to the nuetral lands... I seek the wise one... I have heard.. she knows everything that happens in her lands.. I do not doubt that she would know something... now the question is will you join me .. and be it known that this is to be kept at the utmost secrecy... I will not have my position revealled .. to the enemy ...

She sat back.. she was done .. the question was for him to answer and she waited for it ...

Anya

A small cloaked figure slips into the tavern.. looks around then finds whom she is looking for and sees that she's talking to some dwarf.. never feeling out of sort.. saunters towards the booth and slips in next to her..

"Hey Liliy got the message whats the deal.. Who's the short guy.. ?" Looks over to Gavin.. "No offense or anything your almost my hieght." She smiles prettily at him..

She turns her golden brown eyes towards her friend.. and starts speaking in a Kant that was a language they had developed as children when they used to play together "Yo hun, your talkin fast, your sure thats what you want to trade?"..eventually it translated to "your message was urgent, are you serious about going to look for your bro.. "

Liliana looked over to Gavin.. "sorry for my friends impoliteness.. she tends to forget her manners from time to time..Her name is anya .. she's a childhood friend why dont you think over my question while I chat with my friend here"

The dwarf takes a look at the girl sitting across from him.. the girl with dark brown hair was dressed in a dark brown cloak, had on a creme colored tunic which fit her quite snuggly, this was then covered with what looked like a whole bunch of leather straps same with the dark brown breeches (yes they were male breeches.. which again fit quite nicly around her legs) in some it looked like there were daggers hidden and other such weapons or items.. , the whole ensamble looked like she knew that she was going into something that was going to be fun..

Anya grumbled.. "what was that man?!" Liliana gave ayna that look which said.. watch it.. it was the look she gave when liliana was serious and wasnt going to be budged from her position..

"What?! What?! ... alright alright .. I'll wait.. " Anaya smiled at Gavin and waited...

Liliana looked at Gavin and said "well what is your position on the matter?"

Thalios Kos

::He sat off in a dark booth of the Inn, his eyes aglow as he viewed the Inn from where he sat. It had been a normal night, everyone coming in to forget about their troubles and try to gain come control over the chaos. Well what control ale, wine, and mead could offer. Just when he thought there wouldn't be any entertainment for the eve, the bard stepped up and started to play. After her songs, she sat with a dwarf and was soon joined by a rogish looking girl.

Why would the princess be out of the castle without her guards? Such a move isn't wise with the King so close to the grave and her brother missing. If something were to happen to her then the kingdom would be lost

With some of the knights of the kingdom still talking to him here at the Inn such things were not a mystery to him. He knew when something was merely a rumor or whether it was true just by the look on the faces of those that spok of such things. He would have his answers about her song when he could move on the Princess and catch her alone. Never good to cause waves when you only wish to speak with someone alone.::

The dark cloaked man didn't really enjoy the smokey atmosphere of the tavern, and a drunken brawl wasn't something he was interested in, but he also knew that if someone wanted information, a tavern was the place to get it. He just rested comfortably against the wall, waiting for anything to seem interesting, but so far nothing major had happened. He decided that nothing was going to happen this night, and had stood straight, ready to leave when the woman strode in.

Lan had leaned back against a wall of the tavern, listening intently to the song the woman sang. She seemed to know songs, and knew dancing as well, as she fluttered about the stage, swaying in time with her own song.

Lan knew the histories around here well, and knew that the song she sang wasn't one that came from anywhere near, nor anywhere he had heard. After she had finished, he watched her as she sat down, and a dwarf quickly joined her. Soon after a woman had slipped into the tavern, barely brushing by him, and joined those two as well. He had tried to listen to their conversation, but after hearing a few sentences realized that whatever language they were using he had no understanding of.

He had just made up his mind to walk over to skirt the table and get a better look at the trio when he noticed another man watching the same three intently. He noticed the mans eyes watching the singer intently, and decided to sit back and watch. He wondered if perhaps the man was dangerous, and so decided that now wasn't the time to confront him. With everyone around in the tavern, Lan knew no one would be so foolish as to strike now. And besides... who was the girl to him?

Stepping into the tavern,He looked around carefully as he removed his broad, straight hat, placing it on a table as it clears just aas he arrives, his shepherd's crook cradled against one arm.
He had just left after a futile attempt to see hsi so-called "king" but had not even gotten past the first ring of officials.
He decided to get as drunk as he could adn toast the end of his village as he started mouthing off about the "kings suposed justice" quite loudly, drawing teh angry stares of many of the patrons, who were locals.

As Liliana waited for Gavin's sanwer she overheard a drunk fellow speaking about her father.. her eyes looke like they were going to spit fire...

"Excuse me a moment while I tend to my needs"

she got up and looked to where the trouble was after spotting the fellow defiling her father's good name she strode towards him..

She smiled a very icy smile and whispered in the fellows ear as though she were going to whisper sweet nothings into his ear and said,"Is there a reason you defile our king in his very kingdom? Are you not aware that he is ailing and that he could die at any moment.. if you would stop and think for a moment perhaps you would hear of these things"

leaving him with that to mull over, she sauntered back to the booth.

Of course he wanted to go along with the princess, why else would he be here??? But Gavin saw that the obvious had escaped her with the course of her thoughts just as it had in the training gym. He would play the part of mulling it over for a bit.

As the princess retook her seat, Gavin stated simply, "My uncle saw fit to send me here for your assistance, and I believe this to be a sincere and true mission needed or the peace of both our nations. I shall accompany you.

Liliana

Gavin stated simply, "My uncle saw fit to send me here for your assistance, and I believe this to be a sincere and true mission needed or the peace of both our nations. I shall accompany you.

She smiled "good I thought that would be your answer... it was simply a formality of asking.. perhaps we will meet then tomarrow.. i will send a message and let you know where we will meet then before we take off I will have to pretend that this is not my in my agenda .. i have enemies .. closer than anyone thinks.. I will have to be sure that they are unaware of my actions... "

She stood up and said "I am thinking I will play a bit more.. feel free to get to know my friend Anya .. she will be going with us"

She grabbed her harp and walked back to the stage.. sat down and strummed on her harp ..an old elven melody.. this time she spoke not a word..

Anya

She looked at Gavin and said.."So you gonna help find Tildiir?" She eyed him, seemed genuine enough. She leaned over and said to him while she wiggled her eyebrows..
"So, you wanna a play a game? Its called who can hold their liquor the longest... " she started to giggle ... "I love that game. I can drink an elf in the area under the table, but I have never played against a dwarf... you in?"

Her golden brown eyes sparkled with mischief..

Argile

As She Played the harp A man sat in the corner of the tavern A cloke Covering his face, the Cloke was A tattered worn brown al most looked like tree bark.He pulled the hood of the cloke Back Revilling long Brown Hair. Pointed ears, Emraled Green Eyes. Grayish Skin Almost like rock.. He smiled It had been A Wile Since he had scenn here . Argile Was A friend of the kings . He Was Al so Druic Typ Person And Stood up From his seat to about A highth of 6ft. And Walked Over to her . Now Argile Was over a 100 years old but looked 22 and was young for his race

" Hello Littel one how have you been"

Liliana

Liliana

Liliana looked up to see a person she had not seen since she had an elfling... A soft smile appeared of her face..

"Hello Little one how have you been"

"I have not seen you in many years Argile. How have you been?" Then she flipped into a language that would be know only to the druidic kind... please help me find my brother... and mother.. they have disappeared.. please, I ask as the daughter of your good friend.. who is currently on his death bed.. please..

She smiled after that and says,"You must come see father he would love to see you again ... perhaps later this evening..?"

She looked at him and smiled again. Her eyes had a pleading look in them.

Thay

::It seemed that the Princess in her bard garments and playing the harp well, was popular this evening. Countless people seem to be approaching her making themselves known, but again, he would need to speak with her alone.

Thinking quickly he waved a serving wench over and told her to wait as he jotted down a message. After folding it a few times he handed it and a coin to the wench and whispered to her to deliver it to the bard saying that the paper was a request.

The serving wench nodded and weaved her way through the crowded room, dodging the clumsy fols and the ignorant before finally reaching the bard.::

Excuse me m'lady but I have a message for you from the man in the corner....

::The serving wench pointed to the corner where Thay was seated, but he was no longer there leaving the wench to wonder if she had spoken to someone at all. She had the paper and that was all that proved that he was there.::

Um...a man gave me this to give to you M'lady. He said it was a request.

::With a courtsey, the serving wench excused herself and returned to her duties::

He replyed to to here Speaking in his langauge in the same language.

"Ay littel one i will Help you And Ill GO See your Fother Now soon you should return there too After You take Care Of that Request."

turnd and quikly fanish leaving her to think he left to go see her fother the thing is he had all ready seen her dad that night

"Know you... I do..."

"I'm sure you don't, sir", said Delbaeth politely. He was sitting in a shadowed corner of the tavern, watching the princess uneasily. These jaunts of her worried him; so easy for an enemy to put a knife through her ribs. And with all the strangers who'd been addressing her. Delbaeth had watched them, dark and hooded people, exactly the sorts who might carry a blade and a grudge.

"I do", insisted his companion, a drunken lout Delbaeth was developing an intense dislike for. "You used... to play here. Yeah, that's right. You're a bard! Like that chit who got up and sang for us. Hey, play us a song!"

He probably meant well, but Delbaeth's sudden cold glare silenced him. After a pause, the guard spoke.

"You are mistaken, sir. I have never played or sang in my life. You are thinking of someone else"

The drunkard wilted and nodded. "Aye... I... I probably am, lord". Shivering despite the heat of the room, he stepped to his feet and left the room, swaying slightly.

Delbaeth did not watch him go. His attention had returned inexorably to the princess.

Ivellias had sobered up ina matter of seconds, and after a little bit he stood and walked to the stage, takign a closer seat and politely waited for her to finish her chat with her cloaked friend
(ooc:gotta remember that m character hasnt ever been to the capital,so he doesnt know whos who and whats what:p)

Lan

Lan noticed that there seemed to be a lot of people in this tavern that had business with the lady-bard, and most of them seemed to at least know something of her. As the woman started singing again, Lan watched another man who was watching the bard as well, and yet not in a way that seemed to speak of unknown business, but rather in a protective, fatherly sort of way. Although Lan hadn't met the man before, he had seen him around. It was Delbaeth, the Princesses bodyguard.
Lan looked at the girl more closely, and realized that this must indeed be the princess, the last heir to the throne now that her brother was missing. He had never expected this, but then again, he had never expected to see her sing in a tavern.

Lan knew the implications of what such a thing could mean. Nobles always wanted a chance for more power, and murder, asssassination, or a well-timed kidnapping wasn't above them. If the king was being poisoned, as rumours went, and the princess mysteriously dissapeared, the land could quickly become submerged in a war. Lan sighed, and stood up straight.

Walking quickly to Delbaeth he sat next to the man, and looked into his eyes.

"You are Delbaeth, are you not? If so, why is it that the princess is dancing in a tavern, rather than under the protection of a few hundred Royal Guards?" He waited.

Liliana

After Argile left her at the stage, she continued to play until she realized that she was being watched, Liliana looked up to see the fellow that made the statements about her father and saw how he had reacted.. something didnt seem to fit.. it almost looked at though he didnt even know that her father was ailing she took in his attire and realized that he must not be from anywhere near the capitol... maybe she should figure why he said such things....

She finished her song and then walked over to where the man sat and asked, "Do you mind if I have a word with you?" If her father wasnt able to deal with their people then the least she should do is hear the man out.. maybe there was something she didnt know about...

She looked at him and waited to see if he would talk to her...

as she was about to sit down at the table a maid came and brought her a message and said
"A man gave this to me to give to you.."

"Which man?"

The maid turned and looked around.."I dont know where he went, but I'll give the message to you just the same..."

Liliana took the note from the maid and gave a gold piece , "thank you" she said.

She opened the letter she read...... (OOC: JD insert letter)

After she finished she looked around and wondered just who it was that gave her the letter...

(OOC: I knew that information but Lily wouldnt know that... :) )

The letter

Princess,

I know who you are and I also know what you plan to do. Meet me by the largest willow in the clearing tonight that we may speak of your intentions.

Thay

Liliana

Liliana put the note into her pocket.. she would meet the stranger.. and she would meet him a little later ... after she found out just waht the guy sitting in front of her wanted...

She laid her eyes on the guy and said.."So do you mind if I sit perhaps we can have a disscussion you and I?"

Delbaeth gave the man who had joined him a long, hard stare, but finally relaxed. He was a fair judge of faces, and this man seemed neither rogue nor fool.

"The princess is dancing in a tavern instead of being under the protection of a few hundred Royal Guards because the princess does as she wills", he said. He moderated the snap in his tone with a rueful muttered aside: "And woe betide the poor fool who argues that right.
"I must accept that Princess Liliana takes the risk of coming out here and pretend not to know, she must accept that I follow her and pretend not to know. Any other way, there were would be hours of arguing, nights spent doing nothing but watching her door, and in the end, she would end up where she wants to be anyway"

Delbaeth's smile had something of affection in it, though it didn't touch his cold eyes. "The princess is adept at getting her own way. But I am equally adept at making sure that way doesn't get her killed. Believe me, if it was called for I could have your several hundred guardsmen in here in a matter of minutes"

He frowned. "The idea, though, is that nobody recognises the princess. Who are you, that you know her? And me?"
