I've been setting my two kids up with a road side stall selling the feijoas from our tree.... they have sold 6 bags in the first 30 minutes so they are happy :)

I told them they have to sit there till they all sell and we have a slow street, so I should have a quiet afternoon :D

It makes you realise how fast they are growing up when they know how to handle money and not shy to deal with the public...

So when did you realise your kids were becoming into their own....

I don't have kids, so can't reply to that part of the thread, but I just want to say how touching that realization was. :) Bitter-sweet, I'm sure.

when my kid asked if he is gonna get all the family fortune when I croak.......

he hangs around his mom too much!:D

training wheels..now they are gone
watch me cross the street dad...no he tells me he will be back later....

barney...now WWF

high chairs....now regular
building blocks...now nintendo play station and a computer

OMG I am sounding like that butterfly kisses song......I am getting old:(

I saw it again yesterday. My 16 y.o. son was running at a track meet, and damn...he really had wheels. I mean, I thought to myself, how his hard work has really paid off. He commands a lot of respect from his peers, and that tells the tale.

I also saw it in my 14 y.o. daughter as she laughed and joked with some recent college graduate teachers. The look in the 22-24 y.o. ladies' eyes as they laughed with my daughter told me they liked her and respected her.

Then, as I was helping time the track meet with other staff members from the school, the band teacher(neither of my kids take band this year) commented that you could definitely count on the _____ children to not be wishy-washy, and stand up for what they believe in.

It felt kind of good to be their dad.

That is a beautiful song...

You will be getting older Christophe when he asks for the car keys and then later he brings the first grandchild home, lol

lol, somehow I don't think you get to decide that ;)

I am actually waiting for my children to "come into their own."

Today, my youngest rode her first bike...with training wheels.

The other thing that strikes me as that the children are really showing care and concern for one anothe (in between the squabble over toys and tv and me. lol)

When we went to the pharmacy today to pick up a prescription, my youngest announced quite loudly..."My brother doesn't feel well. Then she spelled his name for the pharmacist. lol"

They feel asleep cuddled up on the couch tonight. They just don't need me as much as they used to....and I know it will continue.

BTW, they are four and six.

Mine are all grown up already at 25 and 27 and looking back it happened so damn fast I think I missed it. sigh
We did lots of stuff together and shared the aches and pains and are closer than ever but I can't pinpoint a moment when I said whoa my little girls are no longer little.

When my son gave me his first "grown up" mother's day card, one full of thank you's and you've always been there for me..instead of the cute little funny ones that he's always given before. He was 16 at that time. It made me cry and it made me so proud, too.
I've cherished all the milestones, but little things seem to stand out now.

I'm starting to feel my 12 year old daughter branching out on her own everyday. She doesn't think my lap is big enough for her anymore. She'd rather talk on the phone with friends than go out for ice cream. Oh, and the big one - she adds Tampons to the shopping list. Sheesh!

But at bedtime, she turns into Daddy's little girl again and we talk about how the day went like we always have. Gotta enjoy what you can.

What is a feijoas? Inquiring minds want to know
They are a fruit that grows on a tree. The trees can grow up to 12 feet high. They are ripe early winter. The skins you don't eat, just the insides. They can be quite tart so add some sugar for sweetness.

Stewed up with custard is just yummy :D

I'm still waiting. They will turn, 3, 3 and 6 this summer.

Although, they all have started to tell me they love me, which is just so yummy I could burst! :)

arent they the infamous breadfruit of Mutiny on the Bounty fame???

My wife is unable to bear children. so we will never know the joys, pains and pleasures of raising and seeing our children grow up :(

Just a momentary hijack

Damn Ruby........... you sure do know how to pick AV's that get my blood up!!!

OldAllis, thank you. :)

I'm sorry about your situation. Your pain was palatable in your words.

I can't believe my oldest daughter turned 16 in February and is driving!

But what I really can't believe is that I just took her to get her bellybutton pierced today! Didn't think I would ever agree to that but I did!
