The Isolated Political Blurt Thread

Madison — A panel of three federal judges opened up the possibility Tuesday that Wisconsin voters who have great difficulty getting photo IDs could cast ballots without them.

But the panel of appeals judges on Tuesday ruled the case could continue for those voters who have challenges getting IDs. They noted instances where government agencies have lost birth certificates in fires or where people have been told they can't get an ID without a Social Security card and they can't get a Social Security card without an ID.

The three judges who issued Tuesday's ruling — Easterbrook, Diane Sykes and Michael Kanne — were all appointed by Republican presidents.

Jim Hightower | How Do You Make Change Happen? Show Up

In my travels and conversations this year, I've been encouraged that grassroots people of all progressive stripes (populist, labor, liberal, environmental, women, civil libertarian, et al.) are well aware of the slipperiness of "victory" and want Washington to get it right this time. So over and over, Question No. 1 that I encounter is some variation of this: What should we do!?! How do we make Washington govern for all the people? What specific things can my group or I do now?

Thanks for asking. The first thing you can do to bring about change is show up. Think of showing up as a sort of civic action, where you get to choose something that fits your temperament, personal level of activism, available time and energy, etc. The point here is that every one of us can do something — and every bit helps.

Simply being there matters. While progressives have shown up for elections in winning numbers, our movement then tends to fade politely into the shadows, leaving public officials (even those we put in office) free to ignore us and capitulate to ever-present, ever-insistent corporate interests. No more. Grassroots progressives — as individuals and through our groups — must get in the face of power and stay there.

CBS News Sunday Morning interview helped confirm the date.
Mr. Larry Wilmore has confirmed it, himself.

It seems as though President Obama may be in for some zingers.
From out of the horse's mouth, and into our ears.

April 30, 2016 Larry Wilmore will be hosting the 2016 White House Correspondents Dinner.

The Washington Post newspaper wades in, and covers the Rachael Roy, Rachael Ray mix up.

gsgs comment-

WTF ? We have an election coming up. The world is in turmoil. People are suffering. Yet, this newspaper must step forward and intervene ?

The headline

Wrong Rachel: Angry Beyoncé fans threaten to stop eating Rachael Ray’s tacos after album drop

April 25, 2016

Beyoncé’s mysterious foe “Becky with the good hair” wasn’t just a lyric. She had a real life name, her fans are sure, and it wasn’t “Becky.”

It was …. Rachael Ray? That 30-minute-meal-making homewrecker who loves posting photos of her sexy … artichoke burgers?

Oops. Wrong Rachael.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...rachael-rays-tacos-after-lemonade-album-drop/

The "Becky" meme is in play.
A long time , ago, two Valley girls were heard on a song, discussing a young woman's backside.

One Valley girl exclaimed to her friend, Becky-

Oh, my, god. Becky, look at her butt.
It is so big. [scoff]
She looks like one of those rap guys' girlfriends.
But, you know, who understands those rap guys? [scoff]
They only talk to her, because, she looks like a total prostitute, 'kay?
I mean, her butt, is just so big.
I can't believe it's just so round, it's like, out there, I mean— gross. Look!
She's just so... black!

This is in the introduction to the 1992 song "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix A-Lot.
There was a video made of the song.
The video was given much airtime.

Does Rachel Roy resemble a Barbie doll ?
Rachel Roy made a publicity mistake, and did not pay attention to the rule that cautions against responding.
Or, she bought herself some cheap attention.

"Rachel Roy, a fashion designer, did get in on the act briefly, posting on Instagram and then deleting on Instagram comments such as “good hair, don’t care,” according to numerous news outlets. “Rachel Roy ‘Furious’ With Beyonce For Singing About Alleged Jay Z Affair” said Hollywood Life."

Rachel Ray is upset.
She never had anything to do with this mess.

"Blinded by loyalty and late-night angst, Beyoncé’s fan base mixed up some vowels in their fervid Google search. Instead of finding their actual target, a woman whose name is Rachel Roy, many landed on poor Rachael Ray."

gsgs comment-

Beyoncé’s new song is everywhere, thanks to this tempest in a tea cup.
We do love our info - tainment.
Now, the Washington Post must lower itself, and help decipher memes for the water cooler discussions.

A little bit of Schadenfreude.

Conservatives did not care very much about the stalking of women, violence against women, the abuse endured.

Now, GOP delegates are getting stalked, and are on the receiving end of abuse.
They are learning about fear, learning about being targeted.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/04/delegates-face-death-threats-from-trump-supporters-222302

"Most people don’t want to make news and are being very, very careful. There’s an element of fear in the process."

(Why do I have a picture in my mind's eye, of Donald Trump punching the Statue of Liberty in the eye ? *shiver* )

Lady Justice has a sword, but she is blindfolded, and there are many Trump supporters. Food for nightmares. *sigh*

My image of Trump punching the Statue of Liberty in the eye (with, first, the belief he'd actually do it) is of a man with his hair all blown down one side of his face off his bald spot entering an ER with a busted hand. :D

Good gracious!

They expect us to accept a yuuuge toddler as our President.

George W. Bush may have been lost in permanent adolescence.
He was grouchy and resentful when he was pushed to attend to his presidential duties.

The United States was well on its way to losing its way, after Ronald Reagan was led into his stall. It was all but inevitable that a more cynical shill for corporations would follow Reagan. That Herbert Walker Bush's son would follow daddy's footsteps into the Oval office, was beyond cynical.

If Donald Trump is set up to be the scarecrow that Sarah Palin was, he is most likely frightening people who are sane, more than she did.

How Mexican-Americans really feel about Cinco de Mayo

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has morphed from its anti-colonial origins. The holiday is widely seen as an occasion to knock back margaritas and tequila, one where tacos and sombreros abound. Sorority girls apply fake mustaches and faker accents. Mexican Americans are acutely aware of how these stereotypes can have lingering harmful effects.

It is no wonder, that the Queen of England treads gently and carefully.
King Charles I was charged with high treason 'against the realm of England'.
Treason against the Realm!
" As the ultimate representative of “Team UK,” she is the embodiment of Britain."
https://www.washingtonpost.com/post...ifferent-britain-than-when-her-reign-started/

I always thought the Glorious Revolution when James II was tossed out was more telling and finalizing of the Common's ultimate power.

The US and England are tied. 1 revolution and 1 civil war apiece. The English just had a civil war first then a revolution.

A period of Puritanism too.

Not much to tell between two ultimately. Except the US adopted a French form of government.

Are some business websites just another possession of a NRA troll ?
This is the second time that the site has been proved to more than a little insensitive.
Free publicity ? Advertising strategy ?
I am betting on multitasking, in an efficient way.
Cause pain to people that they hate. (More racists getting their jollies off.)
Make money by selling to their preferred customers. (People who are NRA members and racists.)
Strengthen their NRA network, too.

Getting free publicity from major and minor news outlets, and free advertising through an awful and heartless approach.

Trump sided with the murderer, back then, and still supports the murderer, right now.

Are you surprised ? I am not surprised.
