The storm of 1888 was massive a, nor'easter. Snow falls were in the 10 to 12 foot range. Houses were covered to their roofs. All traffic road and rail stopped. Ports were closed and ship froze in place. Strangely Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288.2 ft is not affected. Four years later the first weather station was placed here. It seems that the storm was a low level monster that start to drop snow at 6,000 ft. Hence, it did not reap the fury of the storm. For 288 feet it is safe. All you had to do was get there.

The peak of Mount Washington is our island. An oasis in the ocean of snow. Tell your story.....

Billy is at the tree line (4500 ft) when the first snows start that to fall. The wind picks up. Uncle Pete's cabin is 100ft from the peek. It will take a little time to climb up the side of the mountain. Fortunately, some early hikers had cut a path to the summit.

As he reaches 5050 ft mark, he sees the cabin. Not far now. I'll get a fire started and wait out the storm.
