PROLOGUE
Atlantic ocean - Year 1846
The storm was fierce and Captain Jacobs ordered the lifeboats to be ready for use. So far the ship managed to stand against the waves but he feared that the storm had not reached it´s full power. The responsibility Jacobs felt for his crew and passengers gnawed at his heart. He hoped they would get out of this mess unscathed but he also knew it was unlikely.
When the storm reached it´s peak Jacobs had no other choice than to send out the lifeboats. The ship was breaking apart and with heavy heart he gave the order. There was not enough lifeboats for every man and woman on the ship so the passengers was the first to board the boats.
Two women had grown very close on the journey and they was placed next to eachother. Jane Cunningham tried to comfort her friend Emma Grayson by touching her shoulder. They where both widows and had immediately found support in one another. They had one other thing in common. They both had a small child in their arms. 4 year old Samantha Cunningham was clinging to her mother in fear, her eyes shone with tears. 5 year old Lucas Grayson did not make a sound. He was afraid but also fascinated with everything that was happening.
The lifeboat was lowered into the water and the storm was quick to take the reins. The two women hang on to both the boat and their children with all their strength as the men tried to take them to safety.
After two hours of constant struggle the storm vanished, but not before swiping two of the men overboard. Emma Grayson was badly hurt and did not survive. Jane cried for her friend and promised to raise Emmas son as if he was her own flesh and blood.
Eighteen hours later They saw land in the distance. Four hours of struggle later they felt land under their feet. The only ones that survived the terror was Jane, the children and a man who´s name was Joe.
