But this is sad.

It's sad because women's rights are unfairly mistaken as feminism, when in reality men's rights and women's rights should completely overlap.

In fact, men's rights and women's rights shouldn't even exist. It should all just be called human rights. Two genders, many races, one set of rules. Simple, eh?

On that much, we agree, sir. Race and sex should not hamstring the human potential of the individual. We all have the right to pursue happiness, after all.

Interesting. The results of the poll aren't surprising. I agree with you that both men's rights and women's rights really should just be human rights. However, I see feminism as just another name for women's rights. Most people misunderstand what feminism is and there are different POV's about it which is common for any group that is involved politically. (I do not want to argue about this with anyone. I'm just stating what I think.). I've had enough arguing on the gb lately to last for a while.

Not simple enough for the all too many.

Change, no matter how "good" or well thought out, can only happen very slowly for a variety of reasons some more valid and understandable than others.

I am not surprised nat the results. The only good thing I can think of to say they came big with indifference rather than hostile.

The poll doesn't take into account a few critical things: the biggest being what people think women's rights are to be defined as. It looks to me like the extremist feminists have poisoned the meaning of women's rights in the minds of people; the alternative is that we as a nation have shifted from positive feelings about women's rights to indifference... that's a downward trend, a deadly downward trend.

Indifference is better than outright hostility, but it still shows that after the whole "rape babies are a gift from God" nonsense, and after Arizona passed those laws requiring women to ask their employer for permission to take birth control pills... people still haven't figured out that there's something wrong here. Not a good sign.

Now don't get me wrong, I popped a cork over how society now thinks of men's rights. I've seen nothing but outright hostility for men's rights activism (MRA) in the past. This new poll suggests, if other polls come out to support it, that men's rights has gone mainstream. We've got some MRA's who don't even want to see women have equal rights. MRAs are still in the backs-to-the-wall, "anyone who opposes feminism is our ally" stage of development. We never served ourselves well by having the "rape victim bitch shoulda not dressed like a slut" crowd around; we should have taken these extremists to a high-tech lynching long ago. It's the same thing the extremist bra-burners did back in the day.

MRAs have a chance now to capitalize on public support and say "same rights for everyone". Otherwise the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Well said.

I don't particularly care for the feminists who think because they've done research on women and their rights and published books/articles on the subject that they're experts.

Many people tend to develop their opinion of feminism based on the "experts" and others who would do anything to advance their cause because the end justifies the means. Every group has their wackos. And all feminists don't have the same beliefs. That would be the same as expecting all members of any group to have the same beliefs and ideas about their cause.

I don't think that everyone who burned their bra back in the day was an extremist. Most of them were probably looking for a good excuse to burn a bra . :)

Too many men are still paying for their last divorce to get behind women's rights with much enthusiasm.

good post. extremist feminists do as much to harm equal rights as chauvinists do.

Well, everyone's situation is different. I don't think divorce is a primary issue for women't rights these days. Men probably view it more negatively because of divorce. And lets's face it, some of the women's groups are as obnoxious as hell. Fortunately, they don't speak for everyone.

My ex was the one who did well in our divorce. We basically compromised. He got the house any my car. I got the kids. I didn't ask for anything but child support and that wasn't an outrageous amount. It didn't cover even half of their expenses and I wasn't a big spender. We went to the dollar movies and parks for entertainment. Anyway, the ex and I settled on a monthly child support amount and he stuck to it. I only hired an attorney after he decided he was going to sue for full custody of the kids. He lost but when they were older they lived with him and that was fine. They were older by then and needed more time with their dad. Plus I was ready for a break as I had been working and going to school. I paid child support to him then. And none of this was easy for either of us. Divorce is not for wusses.

It's not divorce that men have issue with, it's the alimony & family court bias that is squarely on the woman's side. Activist family court judge's who have their own agenda pretty much quash any empathy for a male that gets a go around through that emotional meat grinder.

I view female poster's who say that their ex got a fair deal and they only asked for what their ex-partner could support the same way I view male's who loudly boast about their 12" tool. I am sure one or two might be describing an accurate depiction of reality...but most are full of crap.

So you're saying I'm lying? And the reason would be? As far as divorce goes, it's been a few decades since I was in family court. It was my understanding that courts don't necessarily side with the mother like they used to and that one of the reasons for men's rights groups was to push for stronger laws for men, as well as more fairness.

More like viewing the past through rose coloured glasses.
And the courts if anything side more strongly towards women, all in the name of "equality".
Hell around here you don't even need to be married, only share the same domicile for six months. Pre-nups are all but worthless, hell no-fault divorce laws are the perfect example. Originally drafted with the intent to dissolve union's where there were no outward displays of egregious abuse now has been warped to be a zero liability clause for ending a marriage for one half.

If marriage as it stands now was a business contract no financial lawyer that could read would advise it as anything other than folly.

Alimony is some bull fucking shit....keep yours and split assets acquired together however it winds up getting split (court order or through simple agreement in the divorce). Once that is over with the only conceivably sane reason either party owes the other a fucking thing is for child support.....that's it.

Not for how many years you were married...not for your bad life choices.....not for how much of their shit you put up with...none of it, that shit is on each individual party. Male or female the emotional and antacid bill of a divorce is steep. Rich, poor, black, white , old, young, male and female divorces fucking suck all around...360 degrees...there is no way around it, fucking deal.

On an up note I did find out at a later date she did not get to enjoy my turbo S2000 for very long...about 6 weeks after the final split she was short on cash. Moron put 89 octane pump gas in and then shoved 16 psi of boost on top of it. Burned holes right through the pistons/cylinder walls/valves getting on the highway.

If I can't have it...no one can, esp not her

Reality...I still got her piece of shit KIA....it's ugly, slow, and starting to fall apart but it still does 40mpg A--->B just as smooth as an econo box ever did.

This situation will be rectified this fall.

Trust me. I do not view my marriage or divorce through rose colored glasses, especially the divorce. :) But, I try not to whine about them too often. Plus it's been 20 years. That's far too long to still be whining over how unfairly one thinks they've been treated.

You never know what's going on behind the scenes that no one but the couple know about. The best offense for a marriage is not jumping into one because one thinks they're in love or for any other emotionally nutty reason.

I've known a few men to go out of their way to get full custody of the kids, not because they wanted custody but because of payback. One guy's wife left him because he was mean an hell. He spent thousands of dollars to prove she was an unfit mother and he won. (His attorney also happened to be a friend of the judge). The kids wanted to be with their mother. She ended up with a couple of hours of supervised visitation once a month. I don't know what the ratio is for men and women in family court as far as who gets the worst deal, but I would think it's probably evenly split between men and women.

I hear you. I have heard this kind of shit from both sides. The stay at home parent suddenly having to get a job to help raise the kids because the father/mother gave up their great paying job because they didn't want to continue to support the other parent as a stay at home parent. All I will say about this is - karma. Those kids grow up. They get to hear about the shit fest that went on. That cunt of father you know has kids that will grow up and fucking JUDGE him one day.

Probably so. In my own case, I never said anything negative to my kids about their dad. They formed their own opinions about him without my interference.

You....are fucking high. From the moment of conception until that kid is 18 years mom is pretty much the end all be all as far as the law is concerned. Mom has to fuck up something ferocious to lose custody...dad just has to piss mom off and he's out.

"He beat me" or any other bullshit is all she has to whisper and he's fucked if not just put in jail.....if he can't PROVE he never did or PROVE that she is in fact the abuser/substance abuser/neglectful POS human being at the most fundamental level he won't see those fucking kids until they turn 18 if she doesn't want him to.

I'll take the Subaru version:D

I went through the same thing w/my kids about their mother. It was the most gut wrenching thing to hear them quote the horrible things she said while I was making excuses for her.

Subaru's are nice.....but they can't make 800+whp on pump gas and a stock block either ;)

Subaru going to come out with one that's going to replace the wrx I don't know if it's going to be another thing that they go in half with Toyota are not.
Them and Nissan are making a lot of horsepower with their motors.
Volkswagen at the Chicago Auto Show showed off the gsr there bringing back 210 horsepower 2.0 liter turbo four cylinder.
