The Internet has changed the meaning of common words/phrases.

Before:
ATM = Automated Teller Machine

After:
Ass to Mouth

Before:
BBC = British Broadcasting Company

After:
BBC = Big Back Cock

Before:
Facial = "procedure involving a variety of skin treatments, including: steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massage"

After:
Facial = Having face ejaculated on

Before:
Bear = mammal, like a black or grizzly

After:
Bear = Hairy gay guy

And that's just to name a few. There are more.

I meat to use affect, a verb,

"Affect with an a means "to influence," as in, "The arrows affected Ardvark," or "The rain affected Amy's hairdo"

"The Internet and its 'affect' on phrases." In this context, effect is the proper way to describe it.

Okay. I may have gotten it wrong.

You did. I'm a bit of a grammar nazi, if a bit rusty at times. I still get perturbed about the misuse of "momentarily" in daily business, for example. It means "for a while", not "in a while".
