The insurrection was a beginning - not an end. Vote in every election you can

I am more than a little concerned about the attitude that the January 6th Insurrection was the end of it. It was only the beginning.

All of the Trump apologists are already out in force. The victim card is already being played. The cries about the First Amendment being under attack are being used to shout down the real dangers of a mentally ill POTUS being removed and prevented from ever holding office again.

The GOP is in no danger of going away and their inclination to be the party of the disloyal opposition during the Obama years will be magnified 10 fold under the "communist" Biden. They gained seats in the house, in state legislatures and they will be picking their voters for another 10 years as they Gerrymander their way through the Trump altered census.

So let's keep up the return to basic American values and not let the so-called Conservatives think we believe we have won the war. Proving that the Republic is strong enough to remove a would be despot - would be autocrat - wanna be Emperor is an amazing and total vindication and was a win of a decisive battle.

But there can be no letting up. Pay attention and vote in every election you can (including for dog catcher because NO election is too small) and keep the insurrectionists OUT.

I grew up voting Republican, but the older I got the more I shied away from the Republican party, as they got more and more extreme, and less and less the party of rational good government.

If the Republicans were to return to the center-right, or moderate right they were in the 80's, I think the majority of Americans might once again embrace them. There were good people in that party once, before it got hijacked by extremists. We need more Mitt Romney types, more Arnold Schwarzenneggers, more George Bush (the first) and more people of that caliber. Center-right moderates with a sound moral compass to do what is right for the country, the constitution, and the greater good of the nation, and were not slave to the idea that "The Greater Good" was some code word for "Socialism." And less of the Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, Rick Santorum, Bitch McConnel types who clearly care nothing for this country or the needs of it's citizens, other than to cater to their darkest parts of their human nature.

I registered Republican when I was 18. Registered with the Selective Service System. Voted For Bush and against Dukakis. Voted for Silvio Conte. Voted for Weld for Governor.

But by the time The Contract with America and Gingrich came around I was done with the Republicans. That, in my opinion, was when the GOP really began its downfall. When they threw in with the "moral majority" and the pious liars.

I think there are plenty of folks who value much of what REPUBLICANS contribute....I'm definitely one of those people.

Individualism is something I'm 100% behind and value.
Individualism is something both parties can celebrate together.

But, not at the expense of civil right, civil liberties and out and out racism...which the REPUBLICAN party seems to have embraced.

This is just one example of what I think common values can be.

I cannot see how to embrace common values unless and until we come to grips with and deal with subversive lies being dressed up as truth.

The whole "Stop the Steal" effort is based on a lie. Shouldn't the repeater and teller of the lie face consequence? How about the financier of the lie? What are their consequences?

Fact and truth have to be the first common value or the rest is for naught.
