Merely five years into our marriage and it was already over.

I look out the window of my office, struggling to keep it together. My husband, despite my efforts to keep him, has said he can't love me anymore. I don't ask why...but the funny thing is, despite being in a loveless, sexless relationship, we're still married to each other. Out of pride? Out of professionalism perhaps as both our political jobs need that certain image? At this point, I don't know anymore.

I'm 36 years young, a respected professional, with a failed marriage.

A knock sounds at my door, interrupting my reverie.

My secretary sticks her head in and says, "Ma'am, please don't forget, you have a free legal aid clinic to attend to at the qUniversity. Your students decided to host one for extra credits in criminal law."

I grimace slightly, having completely forgotten about it. "Right, thanks for the reminder. Will head over to the campus now."

I arrive at the campus, slightly frazzled. Call it my asian habits but I always try to be on time but since I forgot about the legal aide clinic, I was already 30 minutes late. I curse my black stiletto Manolos silently as I practically speed walk to the grounds. My students had the bright idea of holding their clinic outside and near the entrance to entice more participants.

In my haste, I barely noticed the heads turning in my direction. I usually put my hair up when in class and wear pantsuits to look older and more imposing. Its hard to get respected by law students when their teacher is a tiny East Asian woman, who looks too young for her age. My porcelain fair skin and rounded face made me look "baby faced" which cursed me to eternal ID checks in the bar. Today, as I came straight from the office and a big meeting with an older CEO client with a fondness for "pretty ladies", I dressed up a bit with my short Versace white dress and a black Armani blazer. I was wearing pretty make up too, foregoing my usual no make up look with blushing cheeks and a pretty coral lipstick.

I arrive at the site of the legal aide clinic and see that a goodly amount of people have gathered. I survey the crowd. A lot of students asking questions, and I'm not surprised that most are minorities. There were even a few people, likely working in the area who got attracted by the idea of free legal advice from students from the best law school.

"Is that you, Anne?"

I turn around and found myself looking up into a pair of surprised eyes, and saw, for the first time in a long while, eyes that held the heat of sexual attraction.
