I can't do it. I just cannot put anyone on ignore (except Brinnie for that one reason).

I come close to hating what some people post on the various threads and I often feel sad and ashamed about some posts, but I simply can't put them on ignore.

I can't reply to them, I write a reply using my rapier wit and subtle rebuttal but I invariably just sigh and back click because I know they just don't have the mental capacity to appreciate, and I can't rant at them because I'd be very close to tears if I did.

But I still can't put the arseholes on ignore, I just have to torture myself and read their every post (I don't look for them, I mean when they post to a thread I'm reading)

Anyone else have this problem?

Nope. The 'Iggy' button has done wonders for my piece of mind and blood pressure.

This is just a test to see who has you on ignore, isn't it? ;)
I'm sure it is. Horrid thing is there are a lot more who have her on Iggy now that she's posted this. :D

What have you done to Santa Claus JJ? How are all the presents gonna find their way under the trees now?

I've only had one person on iggy and since she's (Brinnie) no longer here..... there no one on the list....

As for how many lists I'm on.... well, I guess i'll never know.....

I use my ignore button with extreme prejudice- I can't deal with getting pissed off like that every five seconds.

I'm not responsible for The Claus. That was BOAC. :D

:D I'm so glad I'm not the only gender illiterate around here. I know Gauche enough to say he's a bloke, but with every other new person on here, I actively avoid situations where I might have to say "he" or "she" about them in fear of getting it wrong.

Damn. I had no idea

But having someone on ignore has the added bonus of eliminating every ridiculous thread they start.

That can be such a blessing.

It can, but I used to have ami on ignore, until I decided it was much more fun to poke him with a stick, and watch him get all pissed off.

Well, there's that.

Well the hell with the targeted twit, what about the rest of us? You mean you've been holding back on me, ho, not sharing those rapier thrusts at the twits so that others can enjoy? (Hoping I'm not one one of the targets, but a few times I probably have been.)

There is one kind of person I can and do put on ignore (or virtual ignore), which is those who make me regret I even read the post, and thus take away part of the pleasure of being here, or induce enough stress to make being here actually unpleasant. These come in two flavors. One is a pitiable person who simply spews hateful rants that contain no substance. There is one who occassionally appears here, a number person, hint hint. The other is someone who in political threads can't or won't eschew using ad hominems, sneering or personal attacks at certain adversaries, or using illegitimate rhetorical devices(such as asserting that an adversary is in bed with unsavory characters. ("Like you, Hitler preferred representational art.") In the latter example it's actually too bad, because other posts can be provocative in the best sense, making one think, but life is too short to put up with the kind of unpleasantness I'm referring to.

:D Ha!

I don't use it. It's like being in denial. Just because you don't have interaction with a person does not mean they're not around.

I thought Gauche was a her for a long time. Not sure I believe Gauche is not a her. Those eyes in the av just seem like her-eyes. (Sorry Gauche - that is actually not a bad thing - the eyes are very attractive. Are you sure you're not a her?)

But perception is reality and my reality doesn't have to include listening to people whose anger addiction and information disease is so far gone that listening to them is painful.

Granted :rose:

Personally I'd rather give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that I do get to see a post where they actually have something to say that will be worth it.

Oh, no.

Those look like sleepy male bedroom eyes to me.

Delicious.

He's not a her, speaking as one who's shared a beer or two with him. He's also a nice guy.

Speaking of Gauche, this is the post that put him on my radar screen. It was one of those rapier wit thrusts, but I thought it also was a penetrating analysis of people's motivations for participating in a social web site like this.

Edited to add: Yui's response to that post was pretty priceless too:

"Um, hi, Gauche. I do think you're clever in a somewhat recondite way. And you're intimidating, but other than that, I think you're just nifty. Don't hurt me."

I thought gauche was in his early twenties when I first came here. And I thought Earl was about 40.

Now about the ignore button, I don't click it either. I can't take not knowing what The Ignored has been writing.
