so it was the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' first appearance on Ed Sullivan

who really cares?

they only made three good songs in their entire career, and I can't remember which ones they were

You probably didn't like any of the "British Invasion" bands. But they changed the rock and roll scene forever and made themselves a place in history. I was a Beatle fan, and waited for the next song to go to the top. I had to get a little older to appreciate the Rolling Stones, they were so not good to look at like the Beatles!

Yesterday I might have agreed with you, but I want to hold your hand, so I think that fool on the hill ought to go on a magical mystery tour with Sgt Pepper, across the universe with maybe a paperback writer, in a yellow submarine ..... as long as you've got a ticket to ride or you're an ordinary day tripper, otherwise, if I were you, I'd just let it be.

THE BEATLES
Best Band in the History of the World. Period.

:D

The thing is, of course, is that I know nobody of a sane mental disposition would even consider saying such a thing about the best band ever in the history of pop music, so I do realise you have said it just to start an argument ...... :D

Therefore, to join in the general spirit of crass stupidity, I thought I'd throw in a couple of insults to decorate the thread ..... ;)

And on that note I shall take my leave from this thread ...... I have become bored now ....... :D

Higher comes straight with the big BITCHSLAP!!!

Sorry but I'm with Higher here...The Beatles rocked. The impact they made on the music scene was phenomenal. I will get crucified but the Rolling Stones leave me cold.

Ahhhh..but you see you guys, thats the beauty of free speach! We're all entitled to our opinions!!

I for one think the Beatles are good..I think the Stones are GREAT...but I really enjoy more of the bands that JW speaks of! Neil Diamond, The Righteous Bros, The Everly Bros, We five etc......

I just think it's cool that we can all like who we want too!:D :p :rose:

Was that you, J.W., I heard whistleing a "Beatle" tune the other day in the kitchen? You don't REALLY hate them now, do you?
Jazey, you had to be there at the time they were on the scene to appreciate them, not just their music.

As someone who lives close to Liverpool, and has stood next to them
I have to disagree
they changed the face of pop music
almost as much as Elvis did earlier

Would there have been a Mommas and Poppas (great BTW)
without the Beatles opening the doors
I doubt it

BUSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have been busted JW...(hee-hee)

Nancy Jean, I know what you mean. I am a little out of range as far as being there when they were on the scene, but I most certainly remember the havoc they wreaked in my house with all my older sisters!!...*lol*
They indeed did change the music world...theres no denying that at all!
Probably because of my age, I found myself getting more into thier later years stuff than earlier years. However, I have several, and I mean SEVERAL of thier albums.
Yep, I said ALBUMS!!....guess my age is showing huh??..lol.

Yep, that was me
Inever said their music wasn't "catchy"
just not all that good, in my opinion, which appears to be totally off in the eyes of most of the civilized world :D

still doesn't mean I have yo sit and listen to em

and to be subjected to them 24 hours a day for an entire weekend just because 40 years ago they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show is just plain old ordinary cruel and unusual punishment :D

Yes they did....:D And all I have to say is....

http://www.iamthebeatles.com/images/letitbews2.jpg

When i find myself in times of trouble
Mother mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. yeah
There will be an answer, let it be.

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

;)
