The "I don't want to talk about AI" thread, and the new topic is: technologies we'd rather have instead of AI

Both sound too acidic, and charcoal dust might be too gritty. I'd have to try it to be sure and my SO does not have an oral fetish so I don't see it happening anytime soon.
I'd probably avoid charcoal dust. Sounds like sand in places it doesn't belong, and maybe harder to clean out?🤔

Every time we talk our conversations get weirder and weirder, you notice that?

Has this thread ever taken some very strange turns😂.

Topic suggestion: Weird little nonsensical actions which you enjoy

For example, I sometimes keep sitting with my teacup in my hand after it's empty. Putting it to my mouth and even sometimes fake drink from it.

You do that intentionally?

I do that all the time, but I am disappointed every time that nothing pours into my mouth. Then I look at it and say, "I will make myself some more tea after I finish writing this scene."

This happens at least once a scene for pages and pages of writing. Each time I'm surprised, then pissed at myself for forgetting, yet again.

EDIT: Instead of all this damned AI, can't they just build me a magically refilling tea cup?

Noise canceling headphones that actually block 100% of ALL noise, not just muffle it.

Maybe I could finally block the constant Tik Tok chatter from my girlfriend's phone from bleeding through and into my brain while im trying to write...
Have you tried a noise-cancelling hammer?

(Applied to you GF's phone, of course, not to your GF. I don't advocate violence towards women, but I have no problem with violence towards other people's phones.)

What model do you have? Noise-cancelling headphones are only as good as how they sit on your head. If you have over-the-ear ones, check to make sure there isn't a gap in the seal between your face and the cups. This is particularly difficult if you wear glasses since those add another potential reason the cups are not sitting correctly.

I can't speak for in-ear headphones because I do not like the feel of things sitting in my ear canal.

Right now using JBLs but have also used BOSE in the past. BOSE were better but even they couldn't mask 100% of all background noise.

And yeah I'm not a fan of ear buds either. I much prefer over the ear.

I have a pair of Sony XM4s that I've used for years and they do a great job. When I first started wearing them, there was still sound bleeding in, but I figured out that it was because my glasses were pushing them away slightly from my face, leaving a small gap between the cups and my face. When I take my glasses off or use contacts and let the cups sit flush, I can't hear a thing. I've taken them on the NYC Subway, Washington Metro and Philadelphia SEPTA in the last six months and they still blocked everything.

Thanks for the recommendation. Maybe next time I'm in the market.

Ill see if taking off my glasses helps too.

Anyway...

At the moment I'd like a Wifi adapter in my laptop that doesn't cut out randomly five or six times a day. It's particularly fun if I'm working in a client's online environment.
At the risk of turning this into tech support, are you in the headspace to be solution-oriented about this or do you just need to vent? 😅

Vent. I actually just ordered an external adapter, and I'm kicking myself for not doing that a couple of weeks ago.

I’d imagine swinging it would create quite a bit of noise, actually…

I’ve had a Wi-Fi issue recently that initially looked like a similar problem, but in the end the solution was to disable the separate 5Ghz network in the router. Macs and other Apple devices are apparently finicky when you’ve got the same name for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks; my Android phone never had problems.
