The "I don't want to talk about AI" thread, and the new topic is: up for grabs!

Not sure I've heard of that one, what's it about?
Action flick. He plays an ND, autistics spectrum. He's an accountant, but for some real shady people. Also an assassin. Lots of gun fire, people dying. Anna Kendrick is in it. He gets roped into figuring out where a bunch of money went for a huge corporation. That's the simple explanation.

Anyway, one of his self calming things is repeating Solomon Grundy to himself.

It's 9.30pm, and I'm waiting for my colleague to finish reviewing my work because the client suddenly wants the text first thing in the morning instead of in the afternoon.
I bet you lot thought the life of an editor was all sipping wine, with a hot redhead trying to drag me off to bed. Strange how reality is a mockery of the dream.

Oh neat. That's always been one of my favorite old poems.

The children of the week poem was always more baffling to me as a child. Like, how could being born on a Wednesday make you full of woe?

Being the middle of the week and realizing you have two full days until the weekend can be full of woe. Although as a child just born it's kinda hard to see it😂. Except he was buried on Sunday🤔, so only a few days there...

Ah but see, the children of the week poem isn't about Solomun Grundy. I just leaned them at the same time and so they remind me of each other. The full poem is:
Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace.
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living.
But the child that is born on Sabbath day,
Is bonny and blithe, good and gay.
AFAIK it's akin to astrology.
XD Which is hilarious at least for early Americans, because those Puritans believed that the day you were born shows what day you were conceived, and so the parents of a child born on Sunday were shamed.

I didn't grow up learning these types of things unfortunately, so these poems ( no idea the child of woe thing wasn't Solomon Grundy, only know it through that movie), so they do fascinate me now. Kinda like fairytales, only fairytale books I had were Disney like kids versions. Which explains my obsession from my teenage years to now. So every time you throw something like this out there it gives me something to look up later, which I appreciate. 🙂.

I used to have a really old collection of mother goose and other nursery rhymes books. They were at times quite horrifying, but at other times mindlessly amusing.

Some of those nursery rhymes get really really dark, for sure. I would have preferred being exposed to those things growing up rather than not. But at the same time at 14 my dad put 'The Catcher In The Rhye' in my hands, with fuck about every other word in it, if you haven't read it. Go figure.
