Is anyone following this case? Final arguments are tomorrow. Two dads get in a fight over their kid's hockey game. A 270 pound man kills a 160 pound man with his fists and is claiming self defense. Sounds pretty lame to me.

I have already pissed off many people

With my opinion on this. If the guy did as some claim and the smaller guy struck him first then tough luck. If the bigger guy was the aggressive one and continued the situation then lock him up. I do not believe size has anything to do with self defense. A small man is just as capable as a big man of taking a life or causing injury. Of course my opinion means nothing. Ultimately the jury will decide the outcome. Later.

I think if all the people who ever played or watched hockey ascended into heaven, the country's IQ would increase by 20 points. But what do I know? I can't drive in the snow.

Oh Please

the hocky dad beat the shit out of the hockey coach. He should be put away. Such actions especially having perpetuated such in front of a bunch of 10 year olds should constitute some kind of consequence. He is a bully and he beat the shit out of a man much smaller than himself and now is bleating self-defense.

I'm not buying it.

*smirks* at the previous WD post.

As I understand it, didn't the accused state that the victim was underneath him and holding his wrists......

Phooey! Self defense.

This happened when, 2 years ago roughly? I've followed it a bit here and there, enough to see that it's a case of a "typical" fanatical sports parent.

You know the ones, the ones who sometimes force their kids to live the childhood dreams that for some reason the parents weren't able to do.

The child seems afraid to go against what his father is saying, but I can't say that to be true.

It doesn't matter who started what, NO ONE is justifiable in their actions in this case. Especially someone who weighs 1/3 more than the now dead person.

From what I understand, the dead guy was not martial arts expert. It's like an averaged sized man being slapped by a hundred pound women. To hit her back is questionable. To kill her is inexcusable.

This is unfair to many hockey purists
I play hockey and watch it and My I.Q. is in the upper 2% of the human populaton. I have to admit that some hockey dads (and moms to a lesser degree) makes you wonder. Many hockey fans are not much better but I doubt they are the majority in any category. Anger and violent behavior will show its ugly head any way. The aggressive/angry person will find an excuse anywhere because denial and blaming others (or circumstances) is built in any psychological inadequacy.

The above post is mine- I keep showing as unregistered but have no idea why.
So much for the high IQ

it happened not to far from where I live, and if I had my way, we would have the death penalty here in MA, just so he would fry for what he did. Self defence my ass

I have not followed the case closely but today I heard a good report on it on NPR. The two men exchanged shoves as the kids were going off the ice. They were broken up and the big guy went to the parking lot. He returned and the "fight" broke out. The smaller of the two guys was on his back when the fatel blows where struck. The bigger guy hit him so hard that the top of the guys spine fused to the base of his skull. I do not see anyway the guy walks on manslaughter. I know this for certain. I don't want that guy at any activity my son might be attending. He is simply dangerous. To me it could have been any sporting event. The final irony of this whole thing is that the argument was over the fathers contention that the coach(the victem) could not control the rough play of the kids on the ice. I suppose he thought it was too violent. Kind of sickening isn't it?

From what I caught how he is claiming self defense just doesnt make sense. If it was self-defense, why were there 2 altercations. After the first altercation it is stated he left then came back. He shouldve never come back.

The guy is a big bully and was looking and wanting a fight. And it is pathetic he did it in front of kids. He is a poor excuse for a parent and a human being. The ones I feel sorry for is both parents' kids. Their lives are ruined by the outrageous behavior and ego of 1 angry self-absorbed man.

I am sick of people thinking that because we live in a free society they can do what they want to who they want and get away with it. There are consequences to peoples behavior and he has major anger management issues and deserves to go to jail for manslaughter. He is a threat to those around him because of his anger control problems. Who know what next will set him off on a rage. Maybe the wrong change from the grocery store.

the best possible outcome for this case, is that the LIVING father, will soon become someones bitch in prison. I hear he's lost alot of his weight, so he won't be able to fight back as much.

Thank you for eloquently blowing the cum bubbles little barb out of the water.

Damnit LAVY! I played hockey for 10+ years, and I had a few concussions from it, but it wasn't the hockey that detroyed my brain cells, it was trying to figure out women. ;)

The gentle giant got off pretty easy. He still might do 3 to 5 years.

Hehehe

The big goon is about to learn the definition of bad karma the first time he drops his soap in the prison shower.

There is some justice. Grab your ankles and hang on, Cha-Cha.

This hit the news in NZ too. From my understanding of it, the accused approached the coach because he thought the practice was getting to rough for his son. The coach declined his offer to tone the practice down. So the coach pushed the accused indicating that he should get off the ice and let the coach carry on with the practice. The accused fell to the ice. He then got to his feet and belted the coach. A brawl ensued and the accused repeatedly slammed the coaches head into the ice.

Other parents broke up the brawl but it was to late. The coach was dead.

Now I maybe way off the base here (NZ news media has a way of screwing the story to suit itself)

Loosely, if the coach hit the parent first, it was self-defence.
BUT, to kill a man over a hockey pratice (with his bare hands)
has to be murder. NOT manslaughter. No matter what the extenuating circumstances.

New Atlanta mayor pushes for Atlanta "Blackskins" football team

Is that demeaning to Blacks?

I think only words should have been exchanged.

I think the big guy could have taken a hit more than the little guy.

He at the most should've hit him once. Not 3 or 4 that he stated. One would have been enough.

Verdict Returned!

Two Irish "muyacks" fight in Boston.
One dies, the one who tried to sucker punch the other.
Try the other.
The intelligent jury is confused by their verdict.
Guilty of involutary manslaughter.
No one is allowed to defend themselves from here forward!
