This is an idea I got from an old HBO series called “The Hitchhiker.” The show followed a drifter from place to place, each episode putting him in a different locale. From what I remember, an air of mystery bordering on the supernatural clung to the main character. I thought this the perfect premise for a thread. Here’s how it would work. I would post with one person at a time. The postings would detail a brief but intense encounter and then my character would move on to someone else. If you are interested, send me a PM.
She stood motionless, casually leaning against a fence with peeling paint. Her long legs were encased in jeans, faded to a distant blue. Destiny closed her eyes, listening to the cicadas sing. Normally she loved this time of day, but she hadn’t seen a car for almost an hour and long tendrils of red were beginning to seize the Western sky. Night was coming fast and if she didn’t find a ride soon, she would have to waste some of her scarce resources on a room at the motel across the street. Her fingers began to drum against the guitar case at her side. Battered as it was with peeling red leather, it contained her most precious possession. The wind caught a blonde curl and Destiny pushed it behind her ear impatiently.
From far off in the distance, she saw the headlights of an approaching care. Her spirits rose. She hastily pulled out a mirror and appraised her appearance even though she knew she looked good enough to attract a blind man - Big brown eyes, tawny skin, blonde curls loosely tamed into a single braid that fell to the small of her back. Destiny put the mirror away just as the car was drawing near.
