THIS THREAD IS NOW CLOSED.. THE MALE CHARACTER HAS BEEN FILLED... THANKS AND PLEASE ENJOY THE STORY OF THE HAUNTING..

~ she stood, staring at the old house. The wind swirling around her and the structure. Even in the harsh breeze, she heard no creaking of old wood, no complaints from the old supports. This house was built well, and extrememly sturdy, albeit old. And she, Sara Raine, had fallen in love with it.

The real estate agent genuinely thought she had lost her mind. "What is a single woman, young and alone, going to do in a huge old house like that? " She simply waved off the question, it really was none of his business. "You know, it's haunted" ... that made her laugh.. Haunted.. of all things. There were no such thing as "haunted" houses, not these days, she did not beleive that for a moment.

She bought the old house. It was all hers. Her domain. A place she could call her own. She hoped that perhaps this house, would give her reason to live again. Reason to get up in the mornings, to function again. It had been far to long since her fiancee had been killed.

Her and Jason had been planning the big fairy tale wedding. He was her childhood sweetheart. Her first and only love. They had been in love since they knew what love was.. and that was when they were mere children. They were going to raise a family together.. kids.. grandkids.. grow old together... until that fateful night.

Jason was a cop, the traffic stop had started out as routine. But moments later it all went horribly wrong and Jason lay shot dead in the street...

Sara had almost fallen apart... she wailed..cried... became angry.. depressed... her whole reason for living had been ripped from her by a drug dealing kid who was now serving life in prison.. that had been over a year ago now. It was time, time for her to try and live again. And she saw the old "haunted" house as her way of doing just that..

Today was day 1.. she was all moved in, not that she had alot of stuff to move. But that was ok with her. She would furnish the house as time went on. All she really needed she already had, her bedroom set and a set of table and chairs for the kitchen.

Now she walks slowly around the outside, as the wind blew.. swirling around her, as if welcoming her to her new home....

Thanks to AmbrosiaCaress for inviting me to take part in this thread.

Mike Vespucci didn't mean to frighten people. What they didn't realise was that it was difficult being a spectre; moving things without a body was difficult. He practised of course, in the long years the house had been empty since its last owners had moved out after the attempted exorcism. When he was alone levitation seemed quite easy; he amused himself occasionally seeing how many of the old bottles in the shed at the back he could keep in the air at any one time. It wasn't the same as the athletic young body he'd been proud of, which he'd had for just twenty five years. The dark hair and blue eyes and large strong hands.

It was people who seemed to put him off, which was odd. He had always been a sociable young man when alive and he wanted to reach out to them; Now, though, any attempt to communicate just seemed to result in their cups breaking, or making pictures fly off the wall. A few years back they had even had a TV crew out to the house but he refused to perform despite yearning for company. They left the old pile after spending the obligatory night in the haunted house with no mysterious footage for their show.

He knew about TV, even though he had died in 1885, he could see the changes that were happening in the world from the house of his old boss, Mr Garrick. The house where he had died. As, over the years since then he sat at the upstairs window, or on his walks to the delapidated front gate which he could never seem to pass through, he saw the world change. Occasional newspapers fluttered into the garden so he read about wars. The old man in the 1920's had a radio; gadgets were a mystery to him but he got used to the talking box and he fortunately didn't manage to break it. It was a pity when they took the old man away, the neighbours claiming he was mad, seeing things that weren't there.

Then the TV's. He never worked those out but once again accepted them; they kept him entertained and he enjoyed turning them on in the middle of the night when everyone had gone to bed and watching the re-runs of I Love Lucy. Oh, and Baywatch.

There was time to think, in between frightening away the owners, so he thought. Perhaps, he thought - he hoped - he hadn't yet met the right person. After all, he was here for some reason, alone all these years; though time meant little to those who had passed, it was odd no other members of the spirit world were around. Somehow, though, he knew that there was a reason for all of this and the best he could work it out that he was waiting for someone, to complete some task or other.

Was this her? Shown around by the estate agent, not put off by his unbelief. She was pretty but he could see a weight of the world had been on her shoulders. He pleaded with himself, don't frighten her away. He hoped she'd have a TV. Is this the one?

~ a TV was one of her first purchases that afternoon.. after a walk around and thru the house... putting away what little she had... the quiet got to her rather quickly.. she needed something.. anything.. just to hear voices.. so off to the store she went... purchasing a TV and a Stereo/CD player.. the TV was for her bedroom.. the Stereo for the kitchen... the 2 places she figured she would be spending most of her time.. at least in the beginning...

The store was nice enough to deliver both that very evening.. which she was very thankful for .. she hated quiet nights.. much preferring to fall asleep with the TV going... at least that kept her memories of Jason at bay... Oh she wanted to remember him... she always would.. but the dreams... that often turned into nightmares... a shot.. Jason falling dead... she just could not handle that.. so the TV was her way of fending off those nightmares...

She stood in the kitchen.. making herself a cup of tea.. the wind was still blowing.. and yet the house was strangely quiet... Jason would have loved this place... she said to herself.. as her tea steeped... I love this place.. she said again to herself..

Sitting at her table.. she began to think.. about what she wanted to do to the house.. that bringing thoughts of the history of the house.. the Real Estate Agent had not known a whole lot.. which she found extremely aggravating.. all he kept mumbling was that it was haunted... that someone had died there a very long time ago... she made up her mind then.. to perhaps do some research to see who.. how... and all that...

But for now.. she gathers up her tea.. and heads slowly up the stairs... her thoughts turning to sleep... she knew she probably would not sleep well for the first few nights in the new place... but she was exhausted... so she had to try.. ~

So far, so good, Mike had been careful to just watch her as the sparse possesions were put away. More boxes arrived that evening and he was pleased to see the TV taken to her bedroom.

In the kitchen he watched her make tea while another gadget played music - he hadn't heard much music, except occasional car radios as they went past the house and that was very different to the music at the barn dances he used to go to; still, it was catchy. He made a note not to touch the machine, he didn't want to break it.

As she sat at the table he wished he could read her thoughts, know where she had come from - was she running away, living here all alone in such a big house? Such a beautiful girl and no partner? Maybe it was temporary, someone would come soon. This was a family house.

She stood and headed for the stairs and he followed at a safe distance so as not to make her stumble or break the cup. He watched as she removed her clothes in silence. Her wavey black hair fell to her bare shoulders as she stood and stretched, naked.

She took a sip of tea and sat on the bed, wondering whether to put on her nightclothes in the heat. Turning on the TV she plumped the pillows and sat back, flicking channels.

Mike moved around the bed, keeping his distance and studying her voyueristically. Somehow, he was stil aware of the feelings he'd had when he was alive. He remembered the skinny dipping with Helen, exploring girl's bodies and the time his friends bought him a whore for his 19th birthday. Now, though, he was entranced by the beauty on the bed, her hair fanned across the pillow her legs bent at the knee, her hand on her ankles, watching the TV and slowly nodding off.

She turned out the light and her body was suffused with the pastel colours of the TV screen and he imagined being her lover, of making love with her. He did feel strange. He sat in the chair by the bed and watched her eyes flutter closed. As she slept he flicked channels, finding re-runs.

Perhaps 3 in the morning he was disturbed by her scream and she sat up on the bed looking straight at him and calling out, "Jason!"

~ she sat bolt upright in bed.. screaming out ...

"JASON"...

The same dream.. no .. not a dream.. the same nightmare.. Jason.. getting shot.. crying out for her.. "sara.... help me sara" and she was not there.. she was not there when he needed her.. he died alone.. laying in the street.. his life's blood flowing from her...

"JASON"... she screams over and over again in her dream...

Shaking.. her eyes were fixed on the cushioned rocking chair that sat facing the TV.. the colors were flickering on the wall from whatever show was on.. but she did not see that.. all she could do was stare at that chair.. as the nightmare passes... and somewhere .. in her deeply troubled mind.. she thought she saw the chair move.. as if someone got up out of it..
Wrapping her arms about herself.. trembling slightly.. she finally tears her eyes from that chair.. to the TV screen... a cant of her head.. she had left the public service station on.. it had been playing some old english play of some sort.. she had found it soothing when she laid down.. why was it now on one of the major networks and some god awful infomercial? That was strange.. the remote was no where near her.. it was across the room.. laying on the stand next to the chair.. the chair that moved... as if someone had gotten out of it...

with a low sigh.. she got out of bed... she was naked.. it just was too warm to even think of sleeping in anything.. walking to the window.. she stretches in the moonlight.. her hands weaving into her hair and then upwards... it was going to be a long.. long night... and she was all alone...

" I hate being alone" she announces to herself.. turning to look at that chair again.. "maybe I'll get a dog.. or a cat.. or even some fish.. something.. anything to talk to..." ... then she sunk down to the floor by the window.. drawing her legs up.. and softly crying.. "Jason.. I miss you" she sobs.. quietly.. ~

She called out the name Jason several times and then, coming more out of what had obviously been a nightmare looked at the TV, on a completely different channel to the one she's had on when she fell asleep. Then the remote control on the opposite side of the bed, next to the rocking chair Mike had just moved away from. He looked in dismay as the chair rocked slightly as if he had weight, as if he had just stood up from it. Looking at her for signs of puzzlement or even fear at this strangeness he was glad she hadn't yet recovered from her dream to fully comprehend what she saw.

She stood and walked to the window. The light of the moon bathed her naked skin and Mike was drawn closer as he heard her talk to herself.

"I hate being alone maybe I'll get a dog.. or a cat.. or even some fish - something, anything to talk to."

So she was alone - and like himself, longed for someone to speak to. He watched in alarm as she slid to the floor and covered her face.

"Jason.. I miss you," she sobbed quietly.

He wished more than ever for arms to hold her, comfort her, tell her she wasn't alone. He slipped down to her side, checking to see if she felt the cold that often accompanied his presence but she didn't seem to. He reached out for her, as if his ghostly hand was real and stroked her hair; it was almost as if he felt the soft strands in his hand.

She moved a little, uncurling her body and his touch slide over her breasts. Surely it was just the memory of his touches of flesh when he lived but he seemed as if he could feel her.

Suddenly, he felt desire; felt he wanted her, as if he were again embodied, as if the arousal he felt his spirit body going through was in the flesh, in the loins of a young man again.

Withdrawing a little, realising she hadn't seemed frightened but not wanting to suddenly make her fearful again, he took her hand and with a little tug drew her delicate fingers towards her sex, his ghost hand covering her warm one, he led her to touch her soft, downy curls between her legs.

With a sigh he didn't realise he spoke. "Who is Jason? Let me help. What's your name?"

~ she stops crying finally... still sitting on the floor near the window.. the moon's hue seeming to set the room aglow... stretching out.. she did not have the strength to get to her feet yet.. and just lets the wall give her some needed support as she sat there.. taking one deep breath after another.. trying to calm herself...

She closes her eyes again... letting herself relax.. she felt the slightest of chills seeming to roam over her naked skin... her arms encircle herself.. hands beginning a slow massage over her skin..

she did not even realize what she was doing... her right hand began to slip downwards... over her belly.. and down... she spreading her legs ever so slowly... fingers dipping into her soft downy fur... touching... feeling the tender folds of skin... the beginnings of wetness... she dips the tips further in.. a graze over her clit brings a gasp.. yet it felt good... and she does not stop... letting her fingers explore a bit further...

"Who is Jason? Let me help. What's your name?"

Her eyes.. which had closed as she touched herself.. fly open.. she was up and on her feet in an instant... flattened against the wall.. and shaking..

"who... what... wait a minute.. " wildy she looked around the room.. and saw no one... the windows were all closed and she were on the second floor anyways.. no one was there... she raced to the door then and threw it open...but again.. no one... turning.. and standing now in the middle of the room...

"Oh Sara.. Your losing it.. " she said outloud..

So her name was Sara; he stood and didn't speak this time, not wanting to frighten her, though somehow she was different. She hadn't screamed, she had not immediately become fearful.

He wondered...with his hands, hands he could see clearly he brushed against her skin, one soft on her belly the other gliding up the curve of her back. Almost with a dancer's grace their bodies, corporeal and etherial were entwined. Would she feel him, urging her back towards the bed?

Lying her down again though he could not touch her he drew her hands around, as if they weren't her own and moved them over her skin now lit by moonlight and the pale glow of the television screen. He urged her to caress her firm breasts, delighting in the hardening of her nipples. He bent his face to them, an imagined kiss as she rolled them in her slender fingers.

Her other hand again he urged into her hairs, then between her parted thighs. Between them, ghost and woman, they moved her hand across her skin, warm from the room's heat, across her thigh, her hip. Playing in her belly button he saw her smile as if she realised this wasn't the way she normally played when she was alone and wanted to come. Down, down her eager hand was led back to the folds between her legs. As she wanted to slide in, he held her out and felt her gasp as her own hand disobeyed her. Then he let her go and her lips parted under her fingers, her sex met them and she caressed herself.

His ghostly lips brushed her neck as he watched her writhe, felt her excitement growing...

~she turns back into the room.. and pauses.. she thought she felt.. something.. a tingle.. along the sensative curve of her spine... another teasing sensation at her belly... a gentle urge toward the bed... she moving... slowly... step ... by... step... she remembering when Jason would guide her to bed... His body wrapping around hers.. this felt.. almost.. the same...

her thoughts were mingled .. jumbled... as she lay back down on the bed... letting out a warm sigh as she relaxes once more.. the moonlight dancing over her bared form.. the moonlight.. she something more...

her hands slip slowly to her own body... touching... caressing... palms grazing to her swelling peaks of her nipples... feeling the warmth.. arching her back.. head canting back.. it was as if her hands were guided by another.... down along her belly.. fingertips touch the skin.. teasing her belly button... further down... she gasping as she dips the slender lengths within her wet folds... wet... she was dripping wet... warm... slick... her hips lifting off the bed as her fingers push inside.. the can feel something... Jason.. his hand over hers... whispering to her to pleasure herself... his mouth.. suckling at her now swollen nipples... his warm lips ... brushing the curve of her throat where her pulse beat... "JJason".. she whispers... she could feel him... feel someone... and with that she orgasms... a sudden wash of pleasure coursing thru her... her hands now grip the soft bedding beneath her.. as her body arches.. shudders... she could still feel the weight of someone atop her.. ethereal .. haunting... as her moans echo into the night... eyes closed.... she lay trembling on the bed...

**************************

She slept thru the rest of the night.. one of the best sleeps she had since that awful night over a year ago... but her mind was already trying to process what had happened.. even in the world of dreams.. so when she awoke... the sun streaming in... she knew she had to look up the history to this house... the first chance she got... altho she did manage to convince heserlf that last night was just an erotic dream... ~

The events of the night had both disturbed and aroused Mike. She had moved on the bed, touching herself as he guided her. She showed no awareness of him, no fear. This was like nothing that had happened in the house since he became a ghost. But what they had done...again he wished for a body that could be with her, climax with her...

He watched as the sunlight woke Sara and she stretched on the bed. He watched as she stepped into the shower; he was drawn to her body, drawn to watch her in the steam, to again become aroused, aching to be in there with her, to once again feel water on a body - his body, to touch her...

The morning passed as Mike watched Sara dress and prepare breakfast. She sat down in the kitchen and the box played it's music while she wrote. Mike slide behind to read over her shoulder.

So, she was going to delve into the history of the house; if he'd had a heart it would have jumped. What would she find out? Would she be able to discover how he died? He didn't know whether it was normal or not for ghosts not to be able to remember their own body's death but he couldn't recall anything from a day or two before he died until he woke up? appeared? some time after the Garrick's left.

She finished her coffee and picked up her things. He followed her out of the house and down the path where he could go no further. He raised a hand and waved leaning on whatever invisible barrier held him back - except there was no barrier. He tumbed out of the front gate, mouth wide open in shock. He walked back and forth a couple of times then realised he could follow her!

Stepping out into the street his form was immediately run through by a Walmart delivery truck; he opened his eyes to see it disappearing down the street. He shuddered and tingled before sliding through the passenger door of Sara's car as she set off for the library.

~ her morning was uneventful... which she was thankful for .. the night had been well.. eventful enough..

A long languid .. heated shower.. made her feel better.. she got the sensation of being watched.. but she wrote that off to being in the new house.. and last night...

Once breakfast and the like was done.. she heads off to the library... her mind a million miles away.. thinking about the house.. the history.. it was nice to have something else to focus on besides... her loss.... and this.. she hoped.. would take her mind off things..

Once at the library she set about finding what she needed... of course these kinds of documents.. dating back as old as this house was.. were not easy to find or easily accessable.. she wanted the information that was NOT on the computer... this .. was situation in the darker.. less popular area of the library... so that was where she went.. the basement.. looking for the history of the house...

She was alone down there.. or so she thought.. altho she felt a strange presence.. something she attributed to the house and the basement of the library..

It seemed to take hours for her to find information that was worth reading... it started with the a breif story of the owners... The Garricks.. Thomas and Michelle Garrick.. ~

The librarian didn't know much aout the old records but showed her where they were kept and left her to work on her own. He suggested that she try the newspapers. the oldest hadn't yet been microfilmed and so she had to work through the big bound volumes around the time the house was built.

Eventually she came across a story, the headlines of the day.

Mysterious Death of M. Vespucci.

A sudden chill seemed to sweep around the room as Mike leaned over her shoulder. They read of the discovery of his body, in the barn...

With a cry she couldn't here, he turned away. Though the paper was not entirely graphic it was clear this was no ordinary death.

He heard Sara gasp and murmur, "poor boy..." she made notes. Tied up...disfigured...an appearance of ritual murder...

Further on was the Garrick's story but Mike didn't read it yet. His mind was still trying to block out the memories that were bubbling up of his last day...last hours.

The Garricks were there, wearing strange robes, standing over his bound, gagged naked form. He remembered the feeling of not understanding, of wanting to get away.

"Don't worry Mike," Michelle's voice echoed in her head as he saw her pretty face distorted by memory. She reached out and massaged his shrivelled, frightened cock and he whimpered behind the gag.

"Would you like to have me?" the words rang in his mind and he saw her shedding the robe...

Then, blackness - he couldn't remember more - yet.

He went over to Sara, his forms snaking around her, desperate for some comfort, a touch.

~ she could only shake her head as she read of what had happened.. right where she was now living.... no wonder the house had the reputation of being haunted... this was grisley.. to say the very least..

She wondered for a moment.. as she lifted her head.. what ghost would haunt the place... the poor victim.. Mike.. really more of a sick sacrafice... or one of the people... monsters.. who took his life.. mattered not to her.. she did not beleive in ghosts...

Lowering her head.. she continues reading.. when she felt something... she snaps her head around.. thinking the librarian perhaps had come up behind her and touched her.. but... there was no one there... but... but she had felt something.. as of someone had wrapped their arms around her..

Shaking her head... the feeling just would not leave her.. but she attributes it to the reading.. the horror of the story she read...

She decides then to take home some of this stuff... it would be much more comfortable to read thru everything there.. and there was so much to read...
Gathering the books.. papers.. she would need... she stands.. the feeling of someone around her fades... and again she shakes her head.. thinking it was just the closed in room at the library and the nature of the reading..

After talking to the librarian.. Sara is back in her car and heading home... after stopping at the small coffee shop along the way and getting a sandwich and a tea... she gets home... it is late afternoon.. she had no idea she had been at the library for so long... but this was interesting stuff...

On her kitchen table.. she spreads out the papers.. a blueprint of the house.. some handwritten notes... pictures... and she begins again going thru it all.. trying to get a sense of exactly what may have happened here.. ~

Drawn back to the car with her, attached somehow, Mike now started to wish for the dark lack of memory back again. Yet he was being urged on, there was something here, more than the horror that he remembered and perhaps with Sara's help they could discover it. Slowly, he remembered as she studied the papers...

Tied down, arms and legs splayed on the earth floor of the barn, oil lamps flickering and then candles...black candles, burning around him. Thomas, drawing on the earth a pattern with a lump of chalk, muttering things in a strange language, Mike kept asking what was happening.

Michelle, naked kissing her husband passionately before him, he holding her slim body as she turned to face Mike. She leaned back on the hooded and robed figure of her husband and pulled his hand to her hairs between her legs. Mike's eyes were drawn to the fingers as they played against her, were drawn up as she lifted her breasts.

"For you Mike. Come, let me take you."

Despite the fear he was becoming aroused and Michelle smiled and licked her lips as his cock hardened before her. She moved forward and stood over him, feet either side of his hips and with her eyes on his slowly lowered herself until she squatted over his erection. Her hands slid up and down his shaft and he breathed rapidly, his lips dry as he felt himself fully hard in the sheath of her fingers. Her husband and disappeared and all he could see was Michelle's naked form as she teased the head of his cock against her slick wet opening before she slowly impaled herself on his thick member.

She closed her eyes and sat down, taking him inside her fully. Mike grunted as he felt her pussy tighten around him, felt her begin to move over him, rising and falling on his naked body, on his shaft.

"Cum Mike, that's right, you want to cum in me don't you?"

He tugged on the ropes that bound him, eager to get his hands on her; she was riding him hard, wanting him to climax quickly. She looked up to where her husband knelt at Mike's head.

"Are you going to cum Mike?" Her voice tempted him, his hips writhed up as she rode him.

"I'm cumming..." he cried as his seed shot into her depths and she cried, "now!"

Thomas brought the blade down through Mike's chest; blood shot high as his heart was pierced and he fell still. Michelle pulled herself off him as his seed, still warm, trickled down her leg.

Mike kept his distance from Sara as this horror replayed itself through his mind but there was worse; the result of the sacrifice.

Michelle and Thomas fell to their knees as a light boiled up from the dead body and coalesced, passing through the rainbow until it reached black, a darkness that seemed to suck life and light out of everything around them. Then they heard the voice.

"You have done well, my slaves. But not well enough."

The two people stiffened as they listened.

"Where is the boy's soul? I need it and it is not in my grasp. Have you failed to follow the instructions of the ceremony?" The voice was like tendrils of a lash to them; they flinched and squirmed under it. Suddenly, another voice. From the door of the barn.

"Would this be what you're looking for?"

The man was middle aged, dressed is a business suit and with his arm around a ghostly figure - Mike, trembling, barely able to hold his form and in a trance like state. The blackness focussed on the two of them, dimissing his servants from its gaze. There was a snarl and the darkness tried to reach out and snatch the soul. With a smile the man in the suit held up his hand and a shield of light burst between them. The blackness slunk back.

"Why should he have a guardian angel?" the blackness mused almost to itself.

"Lucky he does, eh?" the "man" in the suit smiled. "Of course, I'll have to leave him here for a while, to watch over this nasty hole you've made to the underworld." The ceremony had indeed succeeded; those who had the sight could see a line in the earth in the barn. Most people would just see a discolouration; those with second sight could see the glow, a burning lava like glow that over the years had got worse and worse as below forces, dark forces gathered.

"We did not obtain the soul thanks to their incompetence," without a second thought the blackness wreaked its revenge. The Garricks suddenly burst into flame and acrid smoke filled the barn with a scream that lingered as their bodies fell to dust. As if nothing had happened the voice continued, "It will take longer to break through but we will return," the blackness boasted, "if it takes a hundred years or more we will force our way out into this miserable world..."

"I'll be waiting," said the angel.

Mike felt a dull terror where his heart should be and he willed himself through the wall, out to the barn. Straw and old papers covered the earth but Mike made them fly as if a wind had been caught in the room. There, on the floor, a dark stain of his own blood still lingered after all these years and there, crossing it was a dark jagged line.

He returned to the house and looked at Sara. He shook his head. Should he try and frighten her away? This would be no place for her if what he suspected was soon to happen - the blackness would be back and many times stronger.

"The barn" she said to herself.. inwardly glad that the killing that had happened... had taken place out there and not in the main house..

This place was so beautiful... yet held such horror from the past.. what kind of people could do what they did to an innocent.. she wondered... shaking her head... slender fingers brush thru her hair.. a nervous habit really...

Looking up from the papers and books... her gaze is drawn to the window.. and the barn beyond... she had not really given the barn much thought... in fact she had considered having it knocked down.. but now... well.. maybe not.. maybe it needed to stay there... her eyes seemed to be captured by the building itself.. she could not stop staring at it... she did not even realize she had lifted to her feet and was walking toward the back door... a moment later she is walking across the grass to the barn.. just outside the barn door she realizes where she is.. blinking.. a shake of her head... she did not even remember coming out here...

"not again" she whispers... shaking her head once more... "not this again... " Blackouts.. moments of time that she seemed to miss... this had been happening to her since she was a child... one moment it would be 4pm.. the next 630.. and she had no idea what happened in between.... she never remembered the visions... she never remembered the .. encounters... she never remembered the hauntings that seemed to follow her...

Sara had second sight... Her parents knew this.. both her mother and father had the same thing....

her mother.. Antonia Garrick... yes.. related to the same people who had taken Mike's life... yet Sara knew nothing of her history... nothing.. her mother had never even told Sara that her maiden name was Garrick.. she had the gift of second sight.. but denied that gift.. refusing to use it..

her Father ... Norman Raine... A Doctor... part Native American.. part English... His native name had been Howling of the Rain... He knew the ways of the... "Witch Dr"... He had hated being called that.. He was a healer to his people.. a healer in their ways.. He was powerful with his second sight.. able to perform exocisms... and seances.. but after meeting and falling in love with Antonia... He stopped.. out of respect for his wife...

They both knew Sara had the gift... and she was extremely strong as well... Norman wanted to foster that gift... Antonia begged him not to.. Antonia won... Sara never realized just what kind of gift she carried... the blackouts were never explained to her.. and.. once she fell in love with Jason.. they seemed to stop... except for that night.. the night Jason died... it was as if she were there.. watching.. she saw it all in her mind...

Now she stood outside the barn door... hand to the wood.. she pushes the door open... her eyes widening suddenly... the blood on the floor... to her it looked fresh... she could almost hear Mike's screams... see the fissure open up in the floor.. and hear the evil voice demanding Mike's soul... with a whimper.. she falls to the ground.. out cold... fainted...~

Mike watched as Sara stood and headed outside, back from where he's just visited. He followed her, fearful for her, swirling around her in a mist trying to get her to stop.

She pushed open the door and her eyes seemed to see things - more than was written in the documents; he could see her gaze taking in more than was there now. Suddenly she staggered and slumped to her knees and then down to the floor.

"Sara?" In his arms he lifted her without a thought of dropping her and hurried back to the house, putting her on her bed. He went and got water, again, nothing broke; for her he could do things. He splashed a little water on her face, then noticed what he should have seen before. An aura; faint, palest blue-white, clinging to her skin. Other people he had seen over the years also had these glows in different colours. He didn't know what they meant but knew these people had some special powers.

Slowly Sara began to move. She looked around, surprised to find herself on her bed. With a sudden air of resignation she slumped back on her bed.

"Mike, Mike, why have I got obssessed with you?" She spoke to herself but he couldn't stop himself.

"I don't know. But you should leave this place."

She sat up on her elbows and looked around, her face a mixture of surprise and curiosity.

"Who's there?" she called out, hoping her voice wouldn't crack. Something - a voice? What had she heard.

She stared and started to push herself up the bed with her feet as from her dressing table a lipstick floated to the mirror. She was too frightened and surprised to scream as she watched it scrawl across the glass.

LEAVE NOW

"Mike, Mike, why have I got obssessed with you?" she whispered to herself..and she could see him.. bound... hear him screaming... blood... so much blood...

Gasping.. she finds herself lying on her bed.. how had she gotten here.. another blackout.. she had grown so used to them when she were younger that finding herself first in front of the barn door... and now on her bed.. did not seem to really surprise her...

"I don't know. But you should leave this place."

Blinking.. she sat up quickly .. looking around.. a voice.. she had heard a voice... she knew that's what it was..

"whose there?" again she looks around her room... brushing back her hair with a swipe of slender fingers..

"who.........." her voice trails off as she stares.. at the lipstick floating before her... moving to the mirror.. scrawling across the glass in red letters...

LEAVE NOW

She took a deep breath... but did not scream.. altho she was shaking.. and shaking hard... wrapping her arms about herself .. she slips from the bed.. her legs trembling.. between what she hd seen in the barn.. and now that.. what the hell was going on....

Approaching the mirror... reaching out.. her fingers touching the words... tips trailing lightly over each letter..

"I won't leave, this is my home now.. tell me.. tell me who you are.. I heard you just a moment ago... I heard a voice...please.. talk to me...tell me what is happening.. "

One thing she was sure of.. the voice she heard was not Jason.. and for that she was grateful.. she did not want to hear him.. that would drive her over the edge...

"please... who are you?"

With an effort he concentrated to bring his form into her sight. He knew she was sensitive, knew she would probably be able to see.

She did; she saw the troubled face of a young, confused man and murmured immediately, "Mike? Is it you?"

He nodded; after all these years someone had spoken, they hadn't run and they knew as much bout his story as he knew himself. With a sudden movement she tried to embrace him and with a step forward stumbled through the form he projected. They both smiled, she shaking her head at the strangeness of all of this yet not afraid.

"Sara, please leave. This place is a great danger to you. I'm sure outside you felt it - the powers that are gathering in the place...the place..." he couldn't say it so she finished it for him. "Where you died."

He nodded.

Before they could carry on their discussion there was a knock on the door. Sara jumped; she wasn't expecting anyone. Opening the door there was a man in a business suit, his hands in his pants pockets. He turned to face her when the door opened and smiled.

"Hello Sara. I see you've met Mike. Can I come in?"

She just blinked for a moment. "Who - who are you?"

"I'm a friend of Mike's." He tilted his head in question and she was shaking hers and just let him walk past her.

It had been confusing to Mike's spirit when he had first met his guardian angel, so soon after the sacrifice. He didn't reallt remember him and now he was even more confused as he asked is Sara had any tea and perhaps a cookie?

As they went through to the kitchen the business-suited angel said, "it is dangerous Sara, Mike's right about that. They are gathering strength, the creatures your own ancestors and relatives tried to bring here."

Performing mundane tasks and talking about the mysteries of sacrifice and magic had Sara's mind racing with uncertainties.

"What is it they want?" she asked. The angel nibbled a cookie as he replied, "first of all, they want Mike's soul. It was that which was part of the spell that opened the fissure to their world. Well, it's my job to see they don't get that - but if they come if force they might manage it anyway."

"And if they get it - or get through anyway?" Sara gripped the counter top and her knuckles went white. The angel cleared his throat and drank tea. "Very good tea," he said and looked at them "If they get through - the worl is flooded with evil."

Sara paced a bit and was defiant. "I won't go," she said, "there's some connection between Mike and me..." Mike smiled at her fiery nature of the comittment she felt through some psychic link.

"There is a connection and you must help him in another task. You must find the key that will lock up this fissure for good but to do that you must leave this place. Together. Here is your first port of call." The angel brought a small business card out of his pocket; on it was the name Artemis Bookshop. Occult and supernatural volumes a speciality. The address was in a town a half day away.

"And you, Mike." The angel looked at him. "Well, you're not dressed for the occasion at all, are you?" With no further words Mike suddenly felt something, for the first time in over a hundred years it was a feeling. With a gasp like a new born baby he sucked air again. Dressed in his farm labourer's clothes from the 19th century he stood before them.

"Oh God -" Sara couldn't believe it.

"You're not alive again," the angel warned. "This stuff -" he touched Mik's new body, "people on earth would call it ectoplasm or some such. It will do for now though - it helps you hide your spirit from any agents of this evil on earth. Sara - do you think you could take this farm boy and get him some more modern clothes? Then I suggest you set off."

~ the "Angel" disappeared... after enjoying her tea and cookies..and giving her the card with the bookstore name on it ... Artemis Bookshop. Occult and supernatural volumes a speciality.... and of course her and Mike's instructions...

She looked to the ... ghost.. Mike looked as bewildered as she was.. but at least she was not thinking of Jason and feeling sorry for herself.. that was a good thing in all of this..

She really was not scared... she found alot of this very hard to believe and wondered if she were actually dreaming...

"You know.. I have some of Jason's stuff still.. I think you may fit nicely into a couple of his things"... she did not know if that were a good idea or not.. but why not... those clothes were merely that.. ONLY clothes.. not Jason... reaching out for Mike's hand.. as he slips his into hers.. he felt... human... she looking at him all of a sudden... pausing... "You... feel .. soo .. real" she whispers.. before shaking her head slightly to regain her senses... with a soft tug she leads Mike up and into her bedroom...guiding the still a bit confused ghost to sit on the bed...

A moment later she emerges from the large closet with a pair of jeans... and a black tee shirt..

"here.. try these" she handing Him the clothes.. then turning her back for a moment .. giving him some privacy... her mind already going over what else may fit him.. as well as everything that had happened so far... ~

Mike felt odd - to have a body again was strange, even if it wasn't much like a human body. He wouldn't need to eat, for example.

He didn'r feel embarrased in front of XX, perhaps because this wasn't him - though catching sight of himself in the mirror the face did ressemble the one her had last seen properly all those years ago.

He dressed in the offered clothes and told her he was ready and noting her face seem saddened when she saw him. Slowly, she explained about Jason and he nodded offering to get new clothes, though of course he had no way of doing that. She smiled and said they would stop and get him some things on the way to - she lifted the card.

There was nothing else to be done but follow the angel's lead and so she locked up the house and they went to her car. Both had a strange fascination for the barn but Mike said, "there's no point going in there again," it was odd getting used to a voice again, "we'd better get on with what we have to do."

She showed him the map but he had never had to use one before and this was much to complex for him. She leaned over and he could smell the fresshness in her hair as she explaied the road they would have to take. As they set off she showed him road signs and the things to look for and they drove.

In the barn, across the jagged gash in its floor, a red light pulsed.

The Artemis Bookshop stood in Warren Street an old part of the city they had been directed to. It was hard to find - as though hiding. it was more a lane, a relic somehow overlooked by the developers. Even an old cobbled surface was starting to poke through the veneer of tarmac, a concession to the modern day, now wearing thin.

Inside Alexander Artemis III was troubled; he had not been sleeping well and he knew the reason for this. Someone was coming to get the book - the key. It was a legend in his family for over a hundred years that one day the old book on demons would be called for and when it was, the last days could well be upon the Earth. Now, he stood before the alcove on which the book had slept for all those years and saw the title page beginning to shift; strange characters came and went before his eyes. At night, voices in tongues unknown to him could be heard by it.

Worried - yes, but he was an old man and this was his destiny. He hoped her would be able to tell his son the story and get him to come into the business and not close it down as he had threatened with the last time he had to bail his father out of debt.

Who would come for it and what would be the outcome? Alexander could only wait.
