Canadian Electric vehicle (EV) owners have been shocked to find out that battery replacements for their cars, especially older models, tops $20,000. One EV owner shared his experience, saying: “At the dealership, he looked it up online and said you’re not going to like this,” before delivering a bill of $15,000 plus labor and taxes.

"I don’t understand why they make the battery so expensive when you have to change it,” Phyllis Lau, who owns a 2018 KIA Soul all-electric vehicle, told CTV News Toronto.

An American EV owner who takes road trips between Cheyenne and Casper in Wyoming recently revealed that his first trip of 178 miles took a staggering 15 hours to complete in his electric Nissan Leaf.

Another YouTuber, with 1.4 million followers, conducted an experiment with his brand new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup. The man tried to tow a 1930 Ford Model A truck with the EV, but it ended in “a complete and total disaster.”

If you buy a car and don't understand the cost to maintain it, whose fault is it?

This too is going to cause a big backlash against the political morons that have been pushing this EV hoax.
That's what you guys keep saying...strange how people keep wanting EVs

The morons are the ones who dropped $50k without researching operational costs, Ishtard and has absolutely nothing to do with politics.

There is so much wrong with that article, but just like the poster, most of Breitbart’s readership won’t understand.

First off, let’s compare maintenance issues. How much do you typically spend on maintenance of a gas vehicle by the time it reaches 180k miles? The maintenance on an EV is tiny by comparison. Tires and brakes are about it, and because EVs primarily use regenerative braking the wear and tear on brake pads is way less. Still, hopefully you don’t pay more than $20k for your gas car… Also, dealerships are notorious for being the most expensive place to buy replacement parts.

Now consider the savings on fuel costs. Since most utilities charge less than $.15/kWh and you can go ~ 3miles/kWh your fuel costs are around $.05 / mile. Compare that to 30mpg at $3 / gallon = $.10/mile.

180,000 miles x $.10/mile = $18,000 for gas
180,000 miles x $ .5/mile = $ 9,000 for EV.

Closed that expense gap up pretty quick.

(Lifetime cost of an installed solar power system is typically around $ .15 / kWH so even if your electrical utility is more expensive you can be smart and invest in solar.)

The article mentions a Nissan Leaf taking 15 hrs to go 176 miles. They didn’t mention which model year, but that is at the limit for a single charge of some Leafs. In typical Breitbart style they leave out the details needed to make any interpolation of real conditions. That 15 hours probably includes charging by plugging into an “normal house outlet” as they mentioned elsewhere in the article.

Okay, here’s where Breitbart really shines a light on how stupid they and their readers are. A “normal house outlet” can only put out 1800 watts max. If an EV has a 100kWh battery it will take 55 hours with that plug. That would be like filling your gas tank from beer cans of gasoline. Then they say something about “even with a 240v charger…” but they don’t mention the amperage of that charger. The smallest 240v chargers typically charge at around 4.8kW, when 9.8kw is much more typical for a home charger, and commercial chargers can be much faster.

The story of the EV F-150 towing an old F-150? LMAO. I didn’t follow the link to the comparison but just the set up shows an obvious bias. Electric motors in vehicles are typically far more powerful than gas engines, so I’ll probably check out the comparison later just for laughs.

Most Breitbart articles are shilling bullshit political ideas. This one is no exception, their readers think the MSM is duping them yet they aren’t sharp enough to know they are being manipulated by some of Trump’s favorite sources.

Counselor706, you’re a dupe. 🤷‍♀️
