I'm torn between The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Stranger in a Strange Land, Silent Spring and An Inconvenient Truth.

The Population Bomb, Paul R. Ehrlich

Or

Asimov's Foundation

However, the latter is still not Heinlein...

Older works that inspired later SF

Mary Shelley: Frankenstein

Jules Verne: Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea

H G Wells: War of the Worlds

Conan Doyle: Professor Challenger stories

I'm embarassed to admit that I never heard of any of those, 4est…

For me it's "When androids dream of electric sheep" just because I like "Blade runner" and I came across a fascinating review of the movie:
"What makes one human and what does it mean to be human?"

"Dark City" was in a similar line and was good too

I think they made too big a deal out of him after he died. Good short stories though.

Just as influential were the Arcot, Wade and and Morey novels of John Campbell.

;) ;)

I remember reading them because of Asimov.

E E (Doc) Smith Lensman space opera series influenced many people.

So did Edgar Rice Burroughs Martian, Moon and Pellucidar series.

I knew there was taste somewhere.

Is the Space Opera over when the fat Venusian sings?

For E E (Doc) Smith it's when the goodies use two planets to squash the enemy's planet, followed by a mass attack of mental force by all the minds of 'civilisation' and the good guy gets the girl.

Ray Bradbury... I know I've linked it before

Thank fuck, The Fire Balloons

The Forever War Joe Haldeman

Dune Frank Herbert

I Robot Issac Asimov
Short story:

Nightfall Issac Asimov
