What do you think is the greatest sci-fi show of all time and why?

Personally, I would have to say Star Trek:TNG. I think it is the best because the character development and story lines are tremendous. Every character on the show has a history and firm place in the show. I love Worf, because I can totally identify with his desire to be noble and in control. Its always amusing to see him try to control his temper, cause I am the same way.
I do want to mention that Dr.Who and Enterprise are close runners-up.

OK ...

A few qualifications 1st

A) Are we talking on TV only ?

B) Sci-fi only ? Or fantasy too ?

Like say Conan the Barbarian for a lame example ? ( And I did like the movie)

C) series or one episode ?

D) Do cartoons count too ?

Okay, qualifications...

It has to be a television series. It has to fit into the genre of sci-fi/fantasy/horror.

examples:

star trek
Dr. Who
Babylon 5
Blake 7
Forever Knight
Outer Limits
The Twilight Zone
Alfred Hitchcock Presents

I'm with Weevil. Chips was outtasite.

Johnny Cool. or Johnny Hot depending on if I'm wearing breathable cotton.

I have to say why?

My reason is that Erik Estrada was a real suave bumblebee.

Giant Robots that can turn into cars and blow up shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!

What more could I want ?!?

I'm with Silver on this one...Transformers was awesome, not just the kiddie series, but the movie was great...i cried when optimus Prime died, i shit you not, and i saw it again for the first time in recent memory two years ago. Its just so damn fun!!

Hercules was pretty awesome too...Kevin Sorbo made a pretty convincing Herc, dont ya think?

Eagle, you put up a convincing argument...damn, maybe I need to see this movie! I am a fan of NeonGenesis Evangelion, ever seen any of it??

Yeah, I think Hercules and Zena are pretty fabu, as well!

I have Hippie girl, and i think its pretty cool...but nothing...and i mean NOTHING...tops the original Transformers, not by a long shot!! i bought the movie on DVD, and its just so great, i totally recommend picking it up!!

Herc and Xena were awesome, i personally was a huge fan of Kevin Smith, who played Ares...too bad, he died tragically a few months back ,the poor guy

OH MY GOD!!!

Eagle,
I totally loved him too!! I had NO idea that he died!! That is totally sad!!:( I am so bummed!!!!

i know!! i guess he fell off a horse and hit his head on a rock...it sucks, he was totally my favorite on that show, a great god of War...take it from a real greek, he was the man, lol

Ok well to throw my hat into the ring, I will say Doctor Who (can;t beat the classic bad sets, bad acting, bad effects, but ALOT of fun to watch)

Babylon5 definately gets a vote as well, but it should have ended at season 4 and not gone onto one more... sorry but i thought it was a bit crap :)

I love the original Star Trek series for much the same reasons as i stated for Doctor Who, plus i loved a captain who actually got out and did something (sorry to all you Next Gen fans... but thats one of the reasons why I hated it).

If manga... well as much as i hate to say it... i kind of like the Oh My Godess series with the Mini Godesses (sorry i don;t remember the name)... its just very silly and will definately break your brain.

I know i have forgotten something, but if i remember, i shall be back. :p

IMHO Star Trek Voyager! (Plus it has the best theme music of any Star Trek TV show or movie!) A female Captain with balls!

Or Chips. I liked Chips a lot.

You aren't talking about that cheesy show from the 80's with the 2 studly cops are you????? lmao!

Star Trek again??

lol! I have been forced to watch that show as a child, and bitched about every moment. Then I found out all my friends watched it! So...I have been watching it for as long as I remember!

I don't watch a lot of sci-fi, but I do watch Twilight Zone (loved the movie!...Do you want to see something really scary??), every Star Trek series, and Psi-Factor (I know...not Sci-fi...but just wierd!)

My thoughts on Star Trek:

Original Series> Awesome! Paved the way for all the Sci-fi we watch today, as far as I'm concerned. They have even proved that alot of our modern devices were inspired by this show. But, Captain Kirk! What a slut! Is there a woman of any kind that he hasn't slept with???

TNG> Love it! Picard could get out and do more. Needs a little bit of the danger persona from Kirk! But my fav is Data! Loved the first movie! I never thought I would see Data swear!

DS9> Not bad....but I just couldn't get into it as much as the others.

Voyager> Love this one! But then I'm partial to any woman in a commanding position! She's a bitch, and needs to loosen up most of the time....I bet Chakotay could help her with that! He's so fine!! But, WOW! You gotta love 7 of 9!! I love her character, her style, and yeah okay....the body and wardrobe do it for me too! And that Doctor....he kills me! Why do I like all the characters that aren't actual humanoids??

Enterprise> I've only seen a couple episodes, so I'm still trying to get into it. I agree Horny Girl....Scott Bacula is a babe! My problem with this show so far is that they picked him for the leading role. Don't get me wrong...I like to see him as much as I can! But he has played in many Sci-fi shows, and its hard to identify him in this one. I keep expecting to hear a message from Al or Ziggy!

Babylon 5, no contest.

one big, evolving, all encompassing plot that kicked ass. great acting (especially G'kar and Lorien), great cameos like Harlan Ellison, Walter Koening, and Michael York. the space battles are definently killer.

it just lays the smack down.

This will truly age me but I loved "Enemy Mine" starring Dennis Quaid and Lou Gossett. I really liked the raw emotions displayed and the morality involved with not getting to know another species sexuality. Truly entertaining and even kids could watch it too. Lots to talk about in this flick.
