This is a idea for a series.

IRL such seduction would be most unlikely. On LIT, of course, anything goes. Still, the author would need to provide some factor that upends usual mother-daughter (and -daughter's friend) dynamics. I recommend hashish cookies and yoga.

OR -- the mothers are not just conservative and almost-upper-class, but also emotionally distant, never deeply engaged in their children's lives. Maybe they've devoted their prosperous adulthoods to social causes, and left the nasty business of child-rearing to hired professionals. Thus, the usual mother-daughter dynamic is weak or absent. The women lack dealing-with-teen-angst-and-bullshit defenses (as well as common sense!) and are remarkably naive for their age.

First few paragraphs:


Trudy and Gail had been competitive since grade school. It started with who would be the angel in a grade four Christmas production and had only intensified over the years.

Who could sell the most girl guide cookies?

Who would be the grade eight valedictorian (absurd that such a thing existed, but in their upper class community...it wasn't much of a surprise at all)?

Who would get the solo in the choir production?

Who would be the first to get a boyfriend?

Now many would think that these two girls were enemies...yet nothing could be further from the truth. The reality was they were best friends, high school seniors, honor students, president and vice-president of their school council (Trudy won that one by three votes which she loves to rub in Gail's face) and teammates in the debate club.

Against better judgement, I'll offer a few thoughts...

First, unless you plan to describe their growing up, there are too many pre-adult examples. I'd stick to one or two and let their current competitiveness speak for itself.

If you DO plan to describe their growing up, I have two thoughts; 1) ick, and 2) very thin ice. Use that as you may, it's just a personal feeling.

I don't know what "Who could be their mother to buy them the cuter puppy?" is supposed to mean.

Is it typical to call them "girl guides" in Canada, instead of "girl scouts"?

"Who would be the first to get a boyfriend?" Don't you mean "girlfriend"? I mean, hello, "lesbian."

Not sure what the point of all the "lesbians" from rich conservative families is all about. All the recent stories seem to say the same thing in different ways.

First off, "rich" usually means they aren't competitive, not like how you are suggesting. They usually are more competitive in trying to show off how much they have in comparison to one another, though they occasionally try to see who can get the lead role in a play, these, when they are competitive, are NOT friendly.
Instead, let's make them middle class or even better lower class. Being competitive for petite things is more believable then, yet they are more inclined to bond as friends, in spite of their competitive spirit.

If they are such competitive spirits, why would they be on the same debate team??

Summer camp? Really, really thin ice dude. The last thing I want to read about for erotic pleasure is ANYTHING about non-adults. Focus less on the growing up which will likely be a yawner and focus more on the point of the story which is the stuff that leads up to the sex.

Also, upper middle class going to "camp"? I don't think so.
