Your already on your way to your destination.

and He is not going to force you against your will and send you to heaven, you have to come willingly, just like any destination.

What about hell? Let's say that I actually believed in heaven and hell. Let's say I didn't feel good enough for heaven (for whatever reason), but I didn't want to go to hell, either. Would I have to go there by default, even though I have no desire for either, just because I didn't want to go to heaven? What about those people who don't know about heaven? Does ignorance mean they miss out on the joys of the Christian afterlife, if it is indeed the one true religion and heaven and hell actually do exist like Christian scripture says they do?

Doesn't seem very fair to me.

Eventually you'll figure out that it has nothing to do with what you 'want'. What you 'want' is immaterial.

Nothing is 'fair'. Wasn't meant to be and never will be. "It's not fair." is the cry of someone that has all of a sudden come face to face with the consequences of their own actions and don't like the price that will have to be paid.

I don't need parental advice from you, thanks, Ishmael. Of course I'm not stupid enough to believe that everything in life is fair and simple -- my abstract point is that Christians make it seems like their religion makes life fair and simple for its believers.

Besides, Todd made it an issue of what you "want." He brought the willingness of people to go to heaven (which, I'm assuming, means the acceptance of the belief in God and Jesus as precursors to getting the green light into heaven), so I ran with it. Whine to Todd.

We're all free to believe what we want to believe, so i ask why is it that so many find it nessacery to rip on Christianity? If you dont want to believe that a connection and belief in Jesus Christ and God is sending you to Heaven, then fine, by all means, think that way. I happen to think that because of my belief and relationship with Christ and God, i'm hopefully going to Heaven. Thats my own belief, which i'm not afraid to share.

Christianity gets absolutly torn apart on the board more than any other religion. I never see any posts like "Buddha ain't giving you enlightenment" or "Gnish wont bring you any closer to nirvana". Why is it that Christanity is the target for all this agression?

For the record, i'm not catholic, i'm Greek Orthodox, so dont even try to pull that "priests molest little boys" thing....thats on THEIR side, we kicked them out of the church to begin with.:D

dude, did you even read todd's post...he attacked nonchristians. it's only fair tht thy respond in kind. and as a recovering catholic, i can tell you why i bag on the church so much. i know it better than any other faith. it's the same with why i hate white people so much. if i were black, i'd probably hae blacks.

(just so we are clear, there's no creed or color immune to my loathing.)

Here's a little exercise for you: you seem to believe in the good Christianity does -- I don't. So do something to examine why each of us feels this way. I can understand why people think Christianity is a good religion to follow -- the commandments are pretty basic rules for social life that make sense; Jesus' message of love and acceptance is appealing, just as is heaven and the idea of justice in that those who commit "sins" will be punished in hell. These are only basic reasons, but I think they suffice.

Now take a close look at the beliefs, practices, scriptures of Christianity and tell me that you don't see any hypocrisy or double-edgedness in them. Tell me you don't see any misogyny that has resulted in the opression of women for a good couple thousand of years, if not quite that long. Tell me you don't see all the destruction the religion has brought to the world (the Crusades, the witchhunts in Europe and America, bombings of abortion clinics, murders of homosexuals because they go "against god," etc.), and tell me you don't see that happening today.

Tell me that, and I'll eat my fucking mattress.

With mustard and sauerkraut.

i hate to say this but...

this is a really poor argument. the religion you refe to has never condoned the modern day actions you write of. furthermore...jesu' message and the scripyure's etc...are not what encouraged christianity atany time, togo the way of the nazis. we have people to thatnk for that, and the same could probably be said of all religions at some point or another.

<sigh> here we go..

Busty, the Bible has been interpeted a million and a half different ways since the beggining of time. I'm not blaming this on the Bible, not in the least. The people who have attributed to these acts of violence and whatnot have been uneducated by todays standards, or fanatical. The Word in the Bible isnt meant to be taken directly...its open to interpetation, which most people fail to do...they take the so called "Bible Truth" and run with it.

I DO see something wrong with those things...HORRIBLY wrong. But I dont believe that the religion should be attacked for the actions of those who are irresponsible and foolhardy.

Please tell me if any of this made sense, its late, i apologize.

You're right. I'm just bitter. Excuse me while I go scowl at another thread.

Hey, they're not mine -- I have no quarrel with that... Hell, I wouldn't even make it contingent on your posting good porn. Bury away.
