Blocked started out writing porn while a kid and soon acquired a reputation as one of the best lesbian writers in America ( along with Ann Bannion and Vin Packer). I think Block is the best of the three.). He researched the hell outta everything sexual. This book was a bit of a revelation, too.

In the story a retired New York cop is hired by a rural Florida sheriff to entrap the wife of a rich VIP for murder solicitation. The cop alerts the woman to the trap and they become lovers. He has a kinky side, though, and she gets excited by his tales of his encounters with other women in the area. IIn one respect the cop is a nice guy, but he's really a vicious monster. He's clever in a diabolical way.

Block is 80-something and cranking out fuck books still. And some of it Laurel wouldn't allow near LIT because it violates her subject rules.

This book is a keeper.

I almost always skip the last chapter of books before I review them, because I don't wanna reveal the end via clues. So I read the end of the book above, and the end wasn't at all what I imagined. It was a recapitulation of the crisis and resolution.

I assume Block went to Perry, Cross City, Chiefland to fish I cant imagine what else would attract him to the area. And some f the action in the book shoulda happened elsewhere....like shopping. No one drives 80 miles to Hooterville to shop at WALMART. Folks drive 80 miles to Tallahassee or Gainesville to shop. One of my uncles was sheriff of a county adjacent to Chiefland, and his wife shopped in Gainesville. But Block wouldn't know that. Chiefland is where the hiway patrol hides to catch speeders.
