It was always about the connections, friendships and community for me too. I look at the GB now and it looks like how I remember the Playground. There doesn't seem to be serious conversations or playful intelligent banter. Maybe I haven't dug deep enough. We did have a few really fun years though. We used to send packages back and forth. I got the MOST AMAZING Buckeye sweets from Perky. I sent a load of teapots to LuckkyKnight once on a dare. Oh that was funny. Who was the one who used to go ballistic in political threads -- like batshitcrazy? Privately he was really nice to me and sent me a wonderful mezuzah and lotions from Israel -- I can't remember his name, but he's on Qs departed list. Sad. I've sent wedding gifts to former Litsters' kids. It really is something how our connections from the place this used to be grew out into the real world.

the lit community imo has changed from way back when I was a newbie lol.

I only returned recently and it's been so lovely seeing some familiar names and interacting.

I had forgotten how weird and wonderful some of this lot are.

Exchanging gifts was fun.

One litster helped me complete bigrednzs stevie ray Vaughan collection and it made him very very very happy.

Sending tim tams and nz treats was lovely too. (especially vegemite where despite me warning the recipient do not spread it thick on your sandwich or cracker they did anyway and were like yuck lol. )

I love that lit has helped bring couples together and we have been a little part of their journey

My exhusband was British and we met while both working for a Commonwealth government. Vegemite and Marmite are both acquired tastes for sure. I could eat it spread as thinly as possible with some very sharp cheese. I always thought it funny that the people who liked Vegemite often couldn't imagine eating peanut butter. They both hold a similar slot in the food chains of those cultures, but are TOTALLY different. We also celebrated Burns night where I learned to eat Haggis. My rule is I only eat Haggis accompanied by a nice single malt.

I used to have a list of all the real life couples who met at Lit. There were over a dozen. And remember this was way before all the internet dating sites popped up.
