Ever notice the gays on TV (sitcoms, dramas, and reality)? On youtube? In Real Life? I long for the days when gays were just like you and me, meaning no one could tell they were gay based on speech patterns and mannerisms. Now, forget about it. The overly animated expressions, jazz hands, feminine speech, etc makes it obvious for some. seems like a large number have latched on to this gay stereotype.

Not all gays are like this (thankfully). But for the ones that do exhibit these characteristics, do you think it is:
a. Life imitating art
b. Art imitating life

I was going to post links, but that would have been way too time consuming.

One time I was attracted to a girl. She was my preceptor for two hours. She made me cry.

None of the gays I know in real life are particularly flamboyant and certainly have not become more flamboyant. The lesbians perhaps a tad but to be fair most of them were tomboys growing up and sometime in their twenties developed into women simply because it's okay for a woman to enjoy football and basketball and action films. A little weird but acceptable practice.

As for fiction what's the point of having a gay if the audience doesn't know their gay? There is at least some advantage to the audience not knowing the ninja who's kicking everybody's ass is a woman or of a race that is considered inferior or at least shocking in some way. So when the reveal turns out to be that Malcolm X was secretly running the KKK in an elaborate plot everybody goes "Holy shit you just blew my fucking mind!" But gay charachter that you can forget is gay isn't gay and you shouldn't have bothered giving him a sexual preference. Same way you rarely discuss what a charachter's politics are EVEN when it can be infered.

News Flash: You are the gayest fag on the GB

Candicame is a paragon of machismo compared to your fagity ass. I suspect they have a glory hole named after you.

Probably. I am a legend and all of gay culture is based around trends I set in a past life.

Good point about TV characters. But, a gay character does not have to be flamboyant to let the audience know he/she is gay. The character will be involved in activities that will make it clear.

Now on to reality TV and talk shows. There is no reason to have a flamboyant gay. Unless people thinks it's funny?

Ross Mathews from Jay Leno

this may surprise you but i actually completely agree with you on this point. contemporary depiction of homosexuals in the media leaves much to be desired, since gay people are always portrayed as mincing stereotypes, harmless asexual best friends to a female character, or butch lesbians with trucks and 5 dogs.

the only non-stereotypical gay guys on tv i can think of off the top of my head are Omar Little from the wire and that one guy from the sopranos.

Big Brother show is one of the worst. Flamers galore. Ross from the link I posted, oh brother. And Leno's fans think it's hysterical.
