Rules the damn rules!

Poets in honor of the coming Olympics I felt we should have our own games. There will be a few more team events and some individual anyone wishing to add an event please just jump in. They are simply for fun. In future we will have the.
 • Clean and Jerk (heavy lifting)
 • Haiku steeple chase (hope you’ve been training on perky’s and dr4kes threads)
 • Slalom (quick, must be quick)
 • Rhymesled (oh no)

The 1st team Event:
Poem relay
Distance: 75 to 120 words
Members: 3 per team.

Create a poem as a group of 3 individuals without conversing about the poem, You will be given a title for the poem. (Not a topic) Each member contributes work of approximate equal length. Each leg passes on the poem to the next member. The last member posts the poem and then we all get to read them and comment in awe of our genius.

Ok so here is how this is going to work:
The damn rules, why must we have rules!

General Rules
 • The writing starts Monday January 7th ends Wednesday the 9th we should all be able to read, vote and comment on them by Saturday the 11th.
 • I will select the team members and the order for each team who writes first, second and third. This will be done randomly names in a hat kind of thing.
 • I pick the title of the poem it will be posted above on Sunday January 6th.
 • Each team will get a screen name, all members will have that password, I will send each member of each team their password. This way members of the team can each converse and post comments regarding the poems they wrote as a group on the board. Once the thing is over the Id’s can be deleted or reused for other group activities.

The details
 • 4 or more teams, 3 members per team,
 • Each member writes a single stanza of a 3 stanza poem
 • Each stanza must be at least 5 lines (maximum 7) and contain a minimum of 25 words (maximum 40) members of a team cannot converse about the poem while it is being written.
 • Each member will have a day to construct their stanza.
 • The poem is passed on from team member to the other by PM.
 • Once a team member finishes and has passed it on no modifications can be made to it at all.
 • The last member of the team must post it to literotica new poem submissions by Wednesday evening 11.30pm for posting to the list under the assigned team name.
 • Each member retains copyright of their stanza only. (in case someone creates a work of art)
 • The prize is (there is no prize it’s just for fun)
Questions regarding this romp please post to the thread I will respond as quickly as possible.

wow! you never cease to amaze me!

this sounds like a lot of fun. i can't wait to see the outcome. you said the poems will be posted under the "team name", will we ever find out who made up what team?

may i carry the torch? :D

I have run the race

UP--

I have done this before. The results were amazing. I facilitated the event. Lot of work. Thanks for carrying the torch on this one.

UP, I'm going to be out of town. Please keep that in mind. I will participate.

Folks, this is fun. Don't take your task too seriously. Trust the process. Teams that do that, do well.

Good luck to all the teams.

Peace,

daughter

A challenge......but it should be fun....will make my brain
think for sure!! I look forward to this!! U.P.....an excellent
idea in tribute to the upcoming Winter Games in Salt
Lake City.......perhaps this will grab attention of others
on Lit.........

It's going to be exciting!! :) May the games begin 1/7/02!

tigerjen :)

This is exciting - I'm looking forward to participating in this very much. The fun of the challenge, the meeting of minds, the making of new friends - simply having lots of fun.

If it's okay, I sent a message to a friend thinking they might enjoy this too. I hope you don't mind. The more the merrier! I'm not sure if this person will be able to be involved, but I wanted to ask just the same.

Great idea!

Do you like

Can't stanza no more
Rhyme N Pun-ishment

Count me in (based on my travel schedule)... are you randomly picking the teams or do we make them ourselves?

Ah.. OK... sorry, its early - just saw the rules part - you pick the teams...

So... looks like a couple more people have to sign up if I'm gonna get on a team...

Who's game?

Is it incorrect for me to assume that these are to be EROTIC Poetry Olympics - or is it anything goes? I'm assuming we are keeping with the major theme of Literotica - and therefore the Team Names should reflect the erotic nature of these events...

Team Name Suggestions:

FreeVerse Fuckers

Licking Limericks

Odelicious

Haiku Fucku

Epic Proportions

Precocious Pantoums

More than Able Fable

Bigger than Rictameter

Tyburning Love

Sextina

Thick Throbbing Diamantes

Quatrain Trainers

In Shape Poets

Diddling the Didactic

Acrostic Accosters

Built Like a Tanka

Tight Tersets

Perfect Form

Spank the Blank Verse

Do (re) Me

Loaded Pun Guns

Horny Hyperboles

Always Alluring Alliterations

One final suggestion for a team name -

The Refrain Wrecks!

Dilly Dilly Dilly!!

Of course you can play! :D I dunno if you have noticed or not but Literotica has evolved some bit, since the dark ages. Lit now has EROTIC and NON-EROTIC selections of poetry. I'm not sure but, I wouldn't assume that the Poetry Olympics are confined to just erotic poetry.

U.P.? Master of ceremonies? What do you say?

Oh I know... I have 3 stories in the non-erotic section (not that they've received much attention - not nearly the amount of views and votes as my erotic work).

But I think its still a good question. Are the olympics confined to erotic writing or does anything go? Or will there be events in both categories?

when I have played before

The moderator will give the team a title.

The team decides on structure, theme, and any other nuances you want.

You best take advantage of your strategy time. Once you have agreed on a plan, there is no communication among you. Legs are pre-determined(I think UP said that). Leg #1 writes first stanza. Then forwards it to Leg #2.

You cannot edit nor revise the text you receive. You have 24hrs to write your part. You can edit it before sending not after Write and pass.

Leg #3 will post completed work under team's name.

Folks, there is only one title. No changes. Same title for everybody. Part of the evaluation is seeing the different takes on a single variable. What shape the poem takes depends on the group consensus.

Anymore questions need to be posted so they can be addressed here. I can answer some because I've done this before. UP will answer, too.

Peace,

daughter

*sigh* - I might have a problem...

"The writing starts Monday January 7th ends Wednesday the 9th we should all be able to read, vote and comment on them by Saturday the 11th."

I should be available the 7th but there is a chance that I will be travelling on the 8th and 9th on business... if so, unless I can do my part on the 7th, I won't be able to participate...

Questions!

Savage Kitten,
You are correct the poem can take whatever angle the writer decides, although much would depend on who wrote the first stanza.

Dillinger,
Once your team is picked I will select you 1st position. The other two team members will be random.

Thank you, UM - I appreciate that and look foward to it. *smile*

Passwords and responses take it or leave it.

Questions about posting under the team.
Since each member has the password of the team. It is possible to keep the dialog for each team separate.

Example:

I post a question to team Risqué Refrains

Dillinger in the first stanza that refrain was funny.
Dillinger would then reply using the risqué refrain screen name. Then Tigerjen gets a question she goes into the reply that Dillinger gave and answers the comments directed at her part of the poem. Then Perky is asked something she goes into the same reply as Dillinger and Tj and responds. all other questions or comment answered by any team member can be grouped into that post by using the edit function. It simply keeps things together.
