It didn't get any better. Around page 50 Lew Archer is at a Beatnik coffee house digging on a cat who recites poems accompanied by a small group of musicians. Cool cats! Can you dig it! It was the most excitement since I opened the covers.
The experience was like LETS SEE HOW MUCH INANE BORING BULL SHIT YOULL SUFFER BEFORE YOU THROW THIS TRASH AT SOMEONE. Its reputed to be MacDonalds seminal book, the one that made him the heir of Hammett and Chandler. Uh, no.
