The release of Star Wars: Rogue One was basically the most important day of the year for me. Nevermind how shitty 2016 had been in terms of celebrity deaths, or war, or our new Pussy-Grabber-in-Chief; none of that mattered now as I stood in line for the midnight release of what was sure to be the greatest movie of the year.
Of course, I was standing there in full Jedi regalia, and I was hardly alone. I had definitely stuck out like a sore thumb as I had left my college dorm, but I really didn’t care. After all, I was never going to be one of the “cool kids.”
I had been supposed to meet up with some of my buddies from the university D&D club, but so far they were nowhere in sight. I idly wondered if they were dressed as Stormtroopers. There were a lot of those around. I bid my time people-watching. Some of the costumes were really great. I did my best to not let my stares linger on the girls, especially the few who were showing off some impressive cleavage in their costumes.
It was events like this that helped me remember I wasn’t really alone. It felt good to be around my people, “freaks and geeks” all of us…
I ran a hand through my long, wavy brown hair, and scratched at my beard in anticipation. It was almost time!
