Teabaggers! There's no satisfying them!

Rep. Kevin Brady asked for an explanation of why the government-run subway system didn’t, in his view, adequately prepare for this past weekend’s rally to protest government spending and government services.

Brady was one of the folks who voted against the stimulus fund that partially went towards beginningimprovments on the DC Metro system.

People in DC said that these improvements, which are going on right now, have created some slowdowns, and 9/11 traffic didn't seem unusually high to them.

i think it's a bullshit line intended to make the march look bigger than it really was, myself.

Zing!

Shouldn't they have all taken taxis or chartered buses? Using public transportation seems like something a socialist would do.

Like the guy who was injured protesting the public option-- he got himself all stitched up via medicare.

I'm sure that he believes that he DESERVES the taxpayers money, he WORKED for it etc etc.

Just-- nobody else does.

Shouldn't the title be,

"The food is horrible, but the portions are so small, you don't puke when you eat it." ??

Stella,
The difference between a few 10s of thousands, 70,000 and more than a 100,000 does rather seem like an Afgan or Iranian election.

only in this case-- exactly the opposite, since these people are claiming that they wuz robbed via legitimate election.

I seem to remember some people yelling the same thing about another election...legitimate. And from I have read so far I don't remember anyone saying that they were robbed of an election...just their hard earned dollars being given to the likes of ACORN instead of where they will do the most good.

Also, appointing umpteen czars, without congressional approval, to control things, which under the constitution the government has no right to control or even have its big fat nose poking into.

You are quite right, there were some really obviously shady issues with that election, like the enormous undervoting problems with Deibold machines and a history of previous instances of political chicanery.

What millions of dollars has Obama "given to the likes of acorn?" Anything in particular? You might be right, but I want to see a linkie or two. :)

The White House response to the czars accusations;
Last week, when the President addressed the Joint Session of Congress in a speech on health reform, he referred to some of the untruths – okay, lies – that have been spread about the plan and sent a clear message to those who seek to undermine his agenda and his presidency with these tactics: "We will call you out." So consider this one of those calls.

Over the past several weeks, we've seen with increasing frequency and volume issues raised around the use of "czars" by this Administration. Although some Members have asked serious questions around the makeup of the White House staff, the bulk of the noise you hear began first with partisan commentators, suggesting that this is somehow a new and sinister development that threatens our democracy. This is, of course, ridiculous. Just to be clear, the job title "czar" doesn’t exist in the Obama Administration. Many of the officials cited by conservative commentators have been confirmed by the Senate. Many hold policy jobs that have existed in previous Administrations. And some hold jobs that involved coordinating the work of agencies on President Obama’s key policy priorities: health insurance reform, energy and green jobs, and building a new foundation for long-lasting economic growth

But of course, it’s really the hypocrisy here that is noteworthy. Just earlier today, Darrell Issa, a Republican from California and one of the leaders in calling for an investigation into the Obama Administration’s use of "czars", had to admit to Fox News that he had never raised any objections to the Bush Administration’s use of "czars". Many of these members who now decry the practice have called on Presidents in the past to appoint "czars" to coordinate activities within the government to address immediate challenges. What is clear is that all of this energy going into these attacks could be used to have a constructive conversation about bringing this country together to address our challenges moving forward – and it doesn’t take a "czar" to bring that about! Just some folks willing to act in good faith.

I presume you mean he was stitched up and Medicare paid the medical bill, if they did. Medicare is government run medical insurance. People over 65, such as I, pay premiums and the providers of health care bill Medicare for their reimbursement. So far, my wife and I have paid more in premiums than the value of the services we have received.

Social Security benefits are returns of the money I paid in, or my employers paid in for many years, and the interest on that money. 85% of it is taxable to the IRS. I'm one of the lucky ones who will actually get back some or all of what I paid in. Many people, who die in their fifties or early sixties or earlier, pay in all their working lives and will never get a penny of it back.

Here is one, and they are certainly easy enough to find, even though a large part of the news media won't report the story.

"The food is horrible, but the portions are so small, you don't puke when you eat it."
That's not the title because it's not the joke. From Annie Hall:

There's an old joke... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions."

You can make up your own joke to work for your title you want, but I don't think it'll be nearly as funny ;)

where is the millions of dollars?

You know zeb and his ilk are all and only about the money.

Here is the post you quoted and your response. There was no reference to Obama or any particular amount of money.

So here are some more links from the first page when I googled "given to ACORN. There were over 93,000 hits, but I'm not going to look any further. Some of these are describing attempts to stop giving money to ACORN, which also fits with the original post.

Well you have most definitely found links that prove zeb was right about how people are complaining and screaming about ACORN.

But we already knew that part is true. We know very well that people are screaming "ACORN! ACORN!" as if it were "Remember The Alamo!"

And for much the same reason, come to think of it...

Here is another link that just came in to my inbox. This is good news. I don't usually place much value on the views of Newsmax, and usually delete them immediately, but this is strictly a news item, not an opinion piece. :)

It's an opinion piece disguised as a news piece, box. The only reason they sent it out was because it looks like it confirms their views. In reality it only confirms that a lot of Republicans agree with their views. And we already knew that.

Not to mention those who work here illegally but still have their wages garnished (happens in cases where a false social security number is used, for example). There are estimates illegals pay ~$7-10B per year in social security taxes of which they will never draw one cent out of the system (ok, probably a little will be drawn out somehow by inevitable fraud). If we deported all the illegals tomorrow, Social Security would be in serious trouble.

Here is one by MSNBC, and it gives the same voting result. I note that most Dems voted to defund ACORN.

I don't trust either source but, as I said, this is strictly a news item.

If you don't agree with their views and you don't trust the source, why is this good news?

Number one, on your first paragraph. The only way that any insurance program ever works is if the majority of those paying in never receive the value of their premiums in return. That is exactly the point and how such a business can be profitable.

Number two. Check the math on Social Security and realize just how lucky you are. Box, I have been paying into SS since I was sixteen years old. Unless I somehow end up disabled, I will never see a single cent in return because by the time I reach the proper age the system will be bankrupt.

But social security has as much relevance to the original post topic as ACORN... which is exactly none-what-so-fucking-ever.
