The Fascist Thread

fascist (adj.) from Italian partito nazionale fascista, the anti-communist political movement organized 1919 under Benito Mussolini (1883-1945); from Italian fascio "group, association," literally "bundle" (see fasces). Fasci "groups of men organized for political purposes" had been a feature of Sicily since c. 1895, and the 20c. totalitarian sense probably came directly from this but was influenced by the historical Roman fasces, which became the party symbol. As a noun from 1922 in English, earlier in Italian plural fascisti (1921), and until 1923 in English it often appeared in its Italian form, as an Italian word.

[Fowler: "Whether this full anglicization of the words is worth while cannot be decided till we know whether the things are to be temporary or permanent in England" -- probably an addition to the 1930 reprint, retained in 1944 U.S. edition.]

So, is the OP admitting to being a fascist, or is he trying to falsely accuse others of being fascists?

What's racist uncle JBJ's agenda today?

Gee how many times have I said, I'M FASCIST? A dozen? Pay attention.

Richard has never once admitted to being an asshole. We cannot progress as human beings until to own up to what we truly are.

Even a snake is honorable enough to shake it rattles at you, I can do no less. And I come in a transparent wrapper.

"Fascism" aside from the so-named Italian party, didn't exist.

Its a false bogeyperson to use as an ad hominem attack against opponents of the political left and establishment right.

No, I'm a smart fuck.

There was no explicit ideological connection between the parties that historians call "fascist."

Of course, there was Nazism. But it wasn't the same as Italian Fascism. And it certainly wasn't the same as Franco's Spain or Salazar's Portugal.

These few governments never said they were the same thing. There was never a global "Fascist Party" structure similar to World Communism where all national Communist parties adhered to the same texts and all were expected to follow the Soviet line.

These governments are lumped together due to some questionable similarities on a few issues but were never a coherent thing. They had more differences than similarities.

Any government ruled by a totalitarian and nationalist is fascist....think monarchs, think Czars. Think Emperors.

wow, good thread.
I'm kindof on the other side from the OP when it comes to many political views, but his posts got me thinking.

btw: Re differences between a fascist and a totallitarian state: I'm still confused, tbh.
Nevertheless, this site appears to give the best explanations:

Long story short, fascism and communism are both totalitarian, usually nationalistic ideologies that oppress individuality for the greater good.

One is run by a dictator, the other is 'mob rule' .

That is all.

I have often wondered why he invaded Russia. Big mistake,

The second world war was a result of the end of The Great War being mismanaged.

The Russians won WW2.

We will get to vote soon and mine will be to stay in Europe. I dont care who you are, i know what you are.

Good summary, thanks.
And "individuality" is the linchpin, you're right.

It reminds me of a talk that I came across on youtube. They said that regardless of political orientation (R/L), totalitarian states have more things in common than we think: they both oppress individualism and promote collectivism.

It would be nice if they also did another utopian/dystopian movie, this time to help so e of us the differences and similarities between a totallitarian corporate state, and a totallitarian communist state.

No movie needed.

One must only look at the US a totalitarian corporate state and China....a totalitarian communist state.

Few ever wonder how come France and Britain ignored Russia's participation in Hitlers attack on Poland. Few wonder how come Hitler attacked peaceful Russia in 1941.

USSR did not participate in Hitlers attack. They waited 3 weeks until the Germans had beaten the Polish army and occupied Western Poland. Only then did the USSR move into Eastern Poland to take their piece of the land grab. Hitler's lot did the fighting, Stalin chimed in to divvy up the spoils.
