Foreign ministers from 16 South Pacific nations decided at an emergency meeting in Sydney that they would support an Australian proposal for a multinational force to be sent to the troubled archipelago.
Australia - which is expected to spearhead the intervention - announced last week that it was ready to commit some 1,500 troops and 150 police to the force, which is envisaged to be about 2,000-strong.
The motion gives the foreign troops the right to use reasonable force, as well as immunity from prosecution in relation to action taken in the course of their duties.
An Australian-led intervention force is on its way to the Solomon Islands to help restore peace after years of ethnic clashes and a coup three years ago.
The deployment of an international force of 2,000 troops is the biggest in the South Pacific region since World War II.
Australian warship the HMAS Manoora set off from north Queensland for the violence-wracked archipelago on Monday carrying about 600 troops, military support personnel and vehicles.
A further deployment of about 1,400 troops from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and other Pacific nations is due to arrive on Thursday.
Australian Prime Minister John Howard insisted that instability in the region had to be resolved.
"I'm sure the Australian people understand that if the Solomons becomes a failed state, it becomes a haven, potentially, for terrorists, drug runners and money launderers," he said.
The Australian federal cabinet's national security committee will meet in Canberra on Tuesday to give the final green light to the mission.
Yeah, right! Likely story...
Australian Defence Minister Robert Hill said once they arrived in the capital, Honiara, troops would be authorised to use lethal force if necessary.
"If there is an issue of a threat against life, if there is a response with heavy weapons, the military would be able to react accordingly," he said.
"When law and order is restored and the normal functions of government recommence, we'll be able to substantially reduce the military side of the operation and I think that should happen within a relatively short period of time."
Let the rape of the Solomon Islands begin.
Australian-led peacekeepers in the Solomon Islands are to establish a base on the remote Weathercoast, one of the country's most troubled regions.
It is the multinational force's first major deployment outside the capital, Honiara.
Hundreds of troops and police officers arrived in the Solomons at the end of last month to restore order after years of ethnic unrest.

The peacekeepers have warned they will mount a vigorous pursuit of people suspected of stockpiling weapons.
Disarming the population so they can brutalize them without fear of retaliation!
HMAS Manoora, standing guard off the coast of Honiara, is a grey, imposing reminder of the military muscle behind the multinational mission to save the Solomon Islands.
The Australian warship is the offshore command centre for the intervention aimed at arresting the troubled archipelago's descent into anarchy.
AU$$IE warships bullying thier poor neighbours!
The Australian-led peacekeeping mission is the largest military operation in the region since those bloody days 60 years ago.
"Hot pursuit across the border is not an option," he said.
The military build-up continues. In the skies above Honiara, New Zealand Iroquois helicopters and Australian transport aircraft can be heard throughout the day.
On the streets, Australian police are now on routine patrol with their local counterparts.
About 1,200 soldiers, sailors and police officers from across the South Pacific have been deployed so far.
That figure will double in the coming weeks as the peacekeepers look to extend their grip beyond the capital and into the provinces.
You mean thier annexation of a sovereign nation!
An Australian-led peacekeeping force has started to arrive in the Solomon Islands to restore order and disarm ethnic gangs.
The first Hercules C-130 landed at Honiara airport shortly after dawn on Thursday, with other soldiers landing from the amphibious assault ship, the HMAS Manoora.
Some 2,225 troops and police from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Tonga are scheduled to arrive in the coming days. Together they will represent the region's biggest military deployment since World War II.
A thinnly vieled attempt to colonize the Solomons and make it into another AU$$IE province!
Sugar-coated in the lingo of the war on terrorism! As the country slides further into anarchy, Australian Prime Minister John Howard has warned it could become a haven for "drug dealers, money-launderers and international terrorism".
His government is now prepared to flex its muscles in an unprecedented campaign in the South Pacific.
Australia was the third military force in the US-led war in Iraq, and made a similar commitment in Afghanistan.
Since Papua New Guinea gained independence from Australia in 1975, successive governments in Canberra, wary of being seen as "neo-colonialist",
There is speculation the Australian Special Forces could be sent in to track Keke down in his mountainous hideaway on Guadalcanal's remote Weather coast.
Australia's Foreign Minister Alexander Downer has said any opposition would be crushed.
"They would be extraordinarily unwise to put up any armed resistance. That would be quite suicidal," he said.
The multinational force would be expected to restore law and order within a few months, if not weeks.
Crushed! That is what the war-mongering AU$$IES do best! and now that are going to assassinate Keke against international law that prohibit such activities!
A senior Australian army officer said the assembled force was capable and ready for its mission. In remote regions peacekeeping efforts on the ground will be guided by unmanned drones in the sky. These surveillance aircraft will help track renegade militia groups.

Additional navy boats will attempt to cut off the supply of illegal guns into and out of the Solomons through Papua New Guinea's secessionist province of Bougainville, which lies at the northern tip of the archipelago.
The majority of islanders have welcomed the peacekeepers, although a former member of parliament, Jackson Sunaone, writing in the Solomon Star newspaper, said the intervention had turned into an invasion, with Australia pursuing its colonial ambitions in the region.
He is right!!!!!!
