By popular demand, I've dug up the primary threads that comprised one of the GB's funniest episodes.

Some brief background for noobs, ScottX, aka DeSade, aka Scottzilla, aka DV81, aka Kinkenstein was one of the true characters of Lit back in the heydays. There were any number of great threads spurred by his tangled relationships with several Lit ladies, with his complete inability to accept any criticism of his Lit stories and poems(all sadly deleted now), his uncontrolled temper and his absurd self aggrandizing.

He also had serious "gay panic" issues. He once posted that he was bisexual, but denied it forever after. He particularly had a problem with Rhys, and constantly attacked his writing. Until the time Rhys had finally had enough...

I challenge Scott X to a writing duel

Master of Literature

which is more annoying?

Unfortunately, even those three main threads don't capture the whole affair. One of Scott's favorite tactics was to make comments in the Blurt thread pertaining to whatever flame war he was in at the moment, then denying that the comment was related to it. So some of that fun is buried there. And, there were, of course, a number of parody threads.

So, give in to your wonton desires and read the whole saga. It's worth it, it was the GB at its most entertaining.

Added: This great follow up thread, in which Scott decides to dig the hole deeper.

Dear Scott X

And one more, the famous "Sage College Saga":

since some of you claim I lie

The thing that made Scotty so bloody entertaining was that he would not stop digging. He'd be half way to Australia and still wielding the shovel. And COULD NOT not bite.

Goddamn, I miss this guy.

He was funny and quick :(

"Anytime I was amusing (intentionally), I usually had to labor over it a bit. PC never did. He had the ability to rip off stuff immediately that was hilarious. I always admired that."-Byron in Exile

He didn't really think the Brontes were Yanks did he? :(

He thought the Brontes were American.

That Orwell was an American as well.

That Death of a Salesman was a novel.

That Nietzsche and Descartes were novelists.

And that we would believe that he had a Masters in Literature.

:D

Poor Scotty was a glaring reminder that no amount of education (real or imagined) can cover up stupid.

My favorite part of the whole thing was when Olivianna, Pyper, Wrong Element, et al.actually engaged in a serious literary discussion, and Scotty disappeared like a startled fawn rather than take part in it.

I don't believe I ever saw him stick around when people with actual brains were talking seriously. He would only stay if there was name-calling.

He claimed to be a huge fan of Lovecraft, but after a while I began to suspect he was mostly a fan of bad movies loosely based on Lovecraft. Mind you, I enjoy bad Lovecraft movies, too, but I don't confuse them with the actual stories.

People brought the Master of Literature thing up with him for years afterward. I don't remember if it's in one of these threads or if it was later, but at one point, I recall that he claimed his dissertation was on Lovecraft. He seemed to think that Lovecraft was among the most highly respected members of the academic Pantheon.

Of course, as Rob pointed out in his brilliant parody, he also thought Stephen King was the greatest of all contemporary authors. Now, I'm from Maine and we will fight you if you knock the King, but few people with literary degrees would put him above, oh, say, Cormac McCarthy or Thomas Pynchon. But, I doubt if Scotty knew who those guys.
